Think we were outthought and outclassed by LCFC tonight. We huffed and puffed as much as we could, but Rogers's team had almost every answer. It shows that the Bournemouth fiasco was simply a blip. At the front, McB and McB were denied every opportunity to get the ball under control and look up, the midfield seemed badly outnumbered at times and the back were resolute but a tad slow to respond at key times. And really, there's no answering to a class act like Jamie Vardy. As much of a fucking heathen, swine, pigfan as he is, he is a fucking predatory crocodile who just needs innocent, gambolling wildebeest to be frolicking and thinking they are safe to snap and bite deep. Although he didn't score, I think all three (then two) central defenders were far too preoccupied with him outfoxing them to do their normal duties. He is a dangerous motherfucker and there's a reason he is consistently a Premier League high scorer and an England international.

Elsewhere, we were undone by some good players in blue. Tielemans, Barnes and Thomas were stand out effective against what we tried and failed to do. Tielemans in particular is another clever individual who was bossing the centre of the park and looked threatening. I had a feeling Gray would add to their tally when he came on and at the back they looked far more ready to absorb and cut out our normal channels even when under pressure at the rearranged 4-3-3. This wasn't Chelsea or Spurs, was it?

Henderson 7.5/10: Unsighted for the first and a bit out of position for the second. Good saves to keep the score down to what it was though
Baldock 6.5/10: Poorest game I have seen him have. He was abit outflanked at times and couldn't press forward (even at 4-3-3) and at times miscontrolled and seemed tired and clumsy
Basham: 7.5/10: Thought he had an okay game until hooked. Not sure if it was from the head injury from Chelsea ... but I understand that if they're going to 4-3-3, someone has to go
Egan 7/10: Decent game if slow to react and move forward to block their first. He does get some telling headers in when we need him to
O'Connell 7.5/10: Unlucky not to get the block in for their second. Made some lovely passes out from the back and got the tackles in where he should have
Stevens 6.5/10: Like Baldock, a bit run-out and leaden and unable to impose
Berge 5/10: Again, save for a few flourishes, failed to make any real impact
Norwood 7.5/10: Again, a better performance from Norwood. More involved and his passing made decent inroads but (moaning again) 'long ball to far flank/Stevens' gets collected and goes backwards. Again.
Osborn 8/10: Fucking no idea why he went off. He was chasing everything across the KPS grass.
McGoldrick 5/10: Note - he gets this mark on effectiveness, not performance, before you start. LCFC had done their homework on him and unlocked the big secret of hassling him before he gets control (because as we know, a David McGoldrick moving forward with the ball at his feet can cause no end of shit for the opposition) As soon as he looked like he was moving toward the ball tonight, LCFC had one, sometimes two players tracking and pressing and tackling. So he was not able to do much.
McBurnie 6/10: For effort alone, because Leicester's preventative tactics stopped deliveries into the box and kept the ball well away from him. When he did get it down, (as 4-3-3) he was either run into a cul-de-sac or too far from goal to make any impact

Fleck 5/10: Whether he is injured or ready to go to another club, this isn't John Fleck of earlier in the season. He's playing like he's just joined the club, and when he came on, he was playing in the formation of before the lockdown so should have been able to turn on some of that composure, control and bite which saw him create and score so many of our goals. He didn't seem to know where he was and who he was and that worries the shit out of me
Mousset 4/10: Sorry, but he's fading for me. He makes the wrong decisions and simply doesn't have the potatoes to go up against class defences like LCFCs. Compare him and Vardy. Vardy, up against our very good defence creates havoc and hits the post and sets up chances - Mousset spends 45 minutes waiting for shit to happen by accident. I feel he might be on his way soon, and it won't break my heart
Lundstram 6/10: An upgrade on the outfought and outclassed Berge, but still not able to impose and battle like earlier in the season
Sharp 6/10: Again, most of his work was outside the box. He grafts, he battles. He should be scoring goals though.

Thought we were more focussed at 4-3-3 but we clearly are not used to playing like that for long spells and pressing forward without being exposed on the counter.

Europe now? Nah. Get what we can out of the next two, don't get beat again and reorganise the squad in the break.

5/10 against Wolves, where he was much better than that. 7.5/10 tonight, when he didn’t deserve that?

I’m perplexed.

I reckon this was pretty accurate Pommpey! I had us down to get something, but it didn't work out, and hats off to Leicester for outplaying and out thinking us. Something that hasn't happened very much recently.

Stevens has been slack since the restart. Wilder will have noted that.

Yeah and he is a simple swap for Osbourne. Stevens has to be careful because with a fully switched on Fleck, Osbourne to left back and Stevens dropped. I think he is the only one since the restart who has been consistantley bad.

Osborne was poor mate lots of running but behind the game and never looking composed like the rest second to everything on three occasions he picked the ball up on the edge of our box had time and space but mindlessly cleared his line
more composure was needed

Bit of a headless chicken last night

At the risk of jumping on the 'ratings' bandwagon - fuck it, it's early and I'm waiting for a train...

Think you're being generous on Norwood - and as a result, I'm going to be harsh! Think these are the kind of games where his lack of mobility really does hurt us, and I'm summising why Tufty sees Berge as a potential replacement.

To use the NFL analogy - Norwood is our QB and when he can stand in the pocket unmolested, he can pick teams apart. However, if teams don't allow him to stand in the pocket and he has to spend 90mins scrambling and chasing - then his game just seems to collapse.

Bit like McGoldrick. If teams hassle these two players and don't allow them any kind of time, we lose all composure and it throws us off completely!

Having finally calmed down after what I can only describe as an abject performance last night, by our team who are supposed to be chasing a European spot and losing to a team who I and their own fans thought were there for the taking, I can now see that playing two games per week is beyond our, let's be honest, threadbare squad!
Apart from the first 2 minutes of the game we looked knackered, with only Osborn seeming to have any energy and he was subbed! Then on came 3 players who are obviously still not match fit or carrying injuries!
Leicester, who are also supposed to be ravaged by injuries and suspension brought in a 19 year old, who along with Harvey Barnes, ran us ragged and a 36 year old who handled our weak attack without breaking a sweat! They had talent throughout their team last night that we just haven't got!
Our overall play was laboured and very poor quality, with sloppy passing yet again letting us down. We never threatened to score all game and were completely outplayed!

I think that we'll pick ourselves up and get a response and a result against Everton and possibly another against Southampton and whatever the results it's been a fantastic season. But one thing for sure, if we're going to establish ourselves and compete in this league we need to strengthen and I trust CWAK to do exactly that?

Picking up one of your points - bringing in the 19 year old! That's one of the areas that seems to separate the top 6/8 from the rest. They all appear to have an underbelly of kids that are keeping the first teamers honest - and are ready to step in at a moment's notice!

If it's one legacy I'd like to see Tufty leave us with its something similar!

Off on a tangent, but how exciting must it be for Leicester to be able to cash in on Chilwell, knowing that kid will step straight in!

The only players who deserved over 6 for their performances last night are Hendo and Norwood (who made two or three vital tackles running back)

I do hope this defeat doesn't turn into some sort of blame game.

In other words some posters thinking certain players were 1 point better or worse.
For me the players tried as hard as they could - we were simply matched up by Leicester individually on the night and closed down very effectively and quickly by a team that had been embarrassed themselves a few days earlier. Their diminutive Northern Ireland manager got exactly the response CW normally gets following a poor display.

They out competed us and therefore out played us in every department except goal keeper - and even then, it was very poor finishing from Leicester.

Leicester really struggled when they first came up a few years ago but then pushed on after that - we are in much better shape after our first season (and we can STILL qualify for an EL place) and we need to do the same with hopefully a few quality signings. We need to dig out a Maddison type player or two and improve the team. What showed last night is we needed to be different especially after the first half drubbing. Being still in the game at HT was good, but we didn't have the personnel to change the game. This is an area we need to improve on - it will take a few astute signings.

To be fair to the forum, it seems we are mostly giving Leicester the credit - we should leave it at that and move on.

I'm still a bit cross but there are times when we just have to give the opposition the plaudits they thoroughly deserved for the performance, but CWAK will sort this - his post match was really another eye opener.

Everyone have a good day - roll on Everton.

McBurnie has seen an uptick in performances recently.

Tonight he was back to dreadful and was comfortably the worst player on the pitch.

Poor decision to hook Dids ahead of him IMHO.

UTB

Stevens, Lundstram, Fleck, Moose, Berge all underperformed for me. The rest were simply knackered. UTB

Stevens and Balders are struggling with x2 games a week and it's showing. Leicester pinned them back with ease.

As I've said previously, Berge's good performances are directly correlated to McGoldrick's performances. Didzy is stifled/doesnt play - Berge looks lost. Leicester were all over Didzy like a cheap suit and it ruined our fluidity.

Think you need to go back and re-watch the match mate.
'comfortably the worst player on the pitch' is ridiculous.
Yes he was poor, but McGoldrick was abysmal. His usual delightful first touch was back in Sheffield. (I'm definitely a McGoldrick fan).
Everyone knows how integral he is when we play well, for him to be hooked at half time, shows just how bad he was.

I'm not agreeing with the rating (because they have him down as our best player, he certainly wasn't) but check out the rating for our players last night:
Match Ratings
Deano was easily our best player, the outfield 14 who played some part were well below par. Nobody comes out of it with credit. I'd say Enda and Didzy would have got my lowest ratings.
To single out McBurnie is crackers.

Give me ONE yes one positive contribution.

Our possession turnover was off the charts when McB was directly involved last night.

11 aerial duels won?
5 more than any other player on the pitch (leicester included).

Like I said, he didn't have a good game at all. But to say he was comfortably the worst player on the pitch is just an indication of your deep seated hatred of him for some reason.

That’s what I’d describe as a nonsense sandwich – two pieces of sensible comments as the bread, with a nonsense filling in between.

At worst McBurnie was as bad as the poorer performers last night, and I don’t think even that is accurate tbh. What I would say is that if 1 behind a front two was the way we were planning to switch, McGoldrick is far better suited to that role

Received the ball centre-right, side-stepped a challenge, moved the ball out left. That’s without going back and looking at the game (nobody wants to do that).

If you take a look at fbref, which takes stats info from StatsBomb, in possession McGoldrick was worse than him – 44.4% to 58.3% passing accuracy (Fleck and Mousset were also poorer than McBurnie on that).

McBurnie tackled more players successfully than any other United player (3), intercepted the ball twice, won 11 aerial duels. To suggest he was the worst player on the pitch isn’t accurate. To suggest he was clearly worse reflects, unfortunately, a bit of an agenda I suspect.
