My matchday

The only thing missing from this matchday experience was the periodical shout of "Rubbish Yoo-ny-ted" and the dismissive camp wave of the hand.

Got down to the ground for 19:30. But I was in two minds whether to go through the turnstile, I was so nervous I was hyperventilating and actually ended up being sick, but luckily I managed to direct most of it down a grate and didn't get much of it on my shoes.

Eventually plucked up the courage to go through, and went to my seat.

As kick off approached I was trembling, as thoughts went through my mind about the possibility that we could lose and how it would affect us, although I don't know the exact league situation because I don't really pay much attention.

When O'Conner scored after 15 minutes I was quite pleased, I clapped a few times and actually thought about rising from my seat for a second or two, I didn't though.

As the half went on I found myself muttering 'geritforud' repeatedly, because when they pass the ball around I worry they'll lose it. All I could do was sit there shaking, glued to my seat, crossing my fingers and hoping for the best.

I still had most of my finger nails left at half time, which is unusual for me. O'Conner's goal probably helped calm me.

Was really getting stuck into the last 3/4 finger nails before Freeman scored the 2nd, but after that went in I was quite confident we wouldn't lose so my breathing became more controlled. I was even relaxed enough to turn my phone light on and shine it towards the pitch, which was really good. It looked amazing.

Had to leave after 85 minutes because I need my glass of milk and beans on toast by 21:45. There's also the traffic to dodge and getting home 5 minutes earlier makes all the difference in my busy life.

This also suits my nerves, because if I leave early I can pretend nothing's happening and I don't have to think about what could go wrong.

With the score at 2-0 when I left my seat my blood pressure was under control and I thought to myself that we've surely secured a play off place now, so I was mildly pleased really.

I did though take the time to stand right in middle of the gangway at the back of the Kop for a few minutes. I thought "I have to leave but part of me doesn't want to leave so I'll just stand here". I don't know why I do it but think it makes sense.

Got home (without much traffic which was great) and found out it finished 2-0, heard on the radio we were 13 points clear of 3rd with 6 games to go?! I was surprised really but I'll take their word for it.

It sounds like we could go up this season but to be honest I just want it to end, because it's just too much stress. I'd take 2nd place now.

Fingers crossed we can hang on!

This O.P. has 16 'likes'.

Pete Blade's has 13 this week.

Deadbat's excellent report has 11.

All matchday reports of their type.

Interesting to me. Just an observation.

It's called humour. Many of us have different senses of humour, some find certain things funnier than others.

Some people also appreciate light hearted posts mixed in with more factual stuff.

Some people don't even take notice of, or count likes

Aaaah Pommpey, hope you're well. For info, here is a quote from our Captain Fantastic in last nights programme. In fact, they are the first couple of lines in his column:

"It's great to be back at Bramall Lane and playing on our bowling green surface - you appreciate it more after playing in the type of pitch we endured on Saturday!:)

Good. I am glad. There is no doubt it must be ace to play on it and it does give the players the option to play the ball on the deck. You only to have to see Duffy's ball into Freeman's feet, his turn and his crisp strike to understand how that came about.

But Freeman was playing on the same pitch last season, under a different manager and with a completely gash option out wide. And we lost that game to the same team as last night with Freeman, Sharp and Basham playing and Coutts on the bench. How much a different manager and better players than JCR, Wallace, McGahey, Collins and Dean fucking Hammond is the measurable, however the captain feels about the playing surface.

I didn't find it funny originally , but, strangely, now I do.....

If humour is going to be that close to reality, put a ;) at the end so we know we can laugh.;)

On the other hand, my matchday experience was marvellous.

Finished work at ten to five and was in Sheaf Island for 5pm. Enjoyed first pint of Abbot whilst deciding which steak meal to have with my next pint. Ordered a mixed grill and another pint of Abbot.... meal arrived and ordered another Abbot........ finished meal and ordered another Abbot. Then went to Beer Engine and had two pints of Maverick ale. Meandered to South Stand and got to seat just in time for teams coming out. Enjoyed first half and managed to suppress urge to piss until two into first half injury time. Didn't have to queue for piss and then only had to queue behind one other person for half time pint. Enjoyed second half and overall performance and left very happy at final whistle. Walked to Red Lion and had another two pints of Moonshine. Got home around 11.30pm, very happy and slightly merry. Very much enjoyed reading reports and studying tables.

Bring on next Wednesday.

The players make a massive difference Pommpey, as do the manager and his staff. It's good that the pitch enables them to play a brand of football that a: they want to play and b: is entertaining for the fans though isn't it? I'm sure Oldham would give a lot of money to have a pitch like ours. I would say about £850k if they could afford it;)

I realise that I should have put into context what I was really getting at:

We should all encourage Deadbat to do what he does - provides quality chronicles of all home and some away games week in week out, win or lose or draw. The quality is exceptional and a credit to this forum.

Of course a forum is a forum for all types of fans and there is a place for all manner of variations on a theme and types of humour. Live and let live but let's encourage Deadbat that bit more.

Deadbat will not appreciate this comment no doubt but I really do think his reports can be even more of a regular solid discussion thread and deserve to be.

Slightly merry? I would have been shit faced.
Or is this another parody? It's all so confusing.

Me too, that was nine pints by my reckoning, with the crucial half-time pint just to keep him going until full time.

An evening game means a drive for me, which in turn means an alcohol-free day. I woke up this morning with a clear head, which is an unusual experience. Sadly, I didn't feel any better for it :-)

Now THIS is what I call a pisstake.

It was 9 pints but spread out over 6 hours and I'd had a decent meal too. :)

My Matchday:

We travelled from daughter's in Leeds, took over an hour longer than expected on M1. Intended to eat at Aagrah but not enough time, ate on London Road - Zeugma, lamb chops and wine - excellent, after a pint across the road.

Enjoyed the game and meeting up again with neighbours after holiday. Sat perfectly calm and composed throughout. I reckon we can afford to lose a couple we don't expect to and still be Champions. Disappointed in Millwall. No piss at half time even, good for my age!

Bit routine but so pleased to be back. Staying over next week, nearly ran off the road a couple of times last night.

Great times. Love to watch games that are in the bag by the hour mark, love to see the game peter out. We've not had so many these past few years.

Unfortunately some have had a charisma bypass , and the forum revolves around the number of likes . Takes all sorts in a diverse audience .

is the original post real or is it an attempt at humour. either way he needs to go and seek help :D

If they sold Flynn, they could have the six yard box at one end Dessoed. Corner quadrants thrown in too.

Deadbat 's reports and Roygbiv 's 'View froms..' are, for me, the best things about the forum. Having produced a report in the same format as Deadbat for the Oxford game, I can also appreciate the amount of time that it takes to do it.

Deadbats reviews are what I look forward to when I haven't been at the game. He's a Godsend for exiled Blades I imagine . He doesn't sugar coat things like the "professional" outlets do
