Took my three year old to the lane today and he really enjoyed it bless him, though iv got to say the atmosphere was rubbish, it was like a library at times. Its the first time iv been in a few years due to work commitments and was quite surprised how quiet it was, albeit the kop wasnt open, fair play to the salisbury fans who sang throughout. All in all though a good day and i look forward to the little uns next game.....UTB

To be fair, it was never going to be a great atmosphere-wise, given the opposition & the kop being closed. I'm a ST holder and hardly miss a game, but must admit I didn't go yesterday. The FA Cup seems to be going the way of the league cup unfortunately - difficult to get excited about it until the latter stages.

It's a day to remember though Mekky! It was my girl's first match this season, she was 5, against Walsall.

Sat on the Kop, the look on her face, at the noise when we scored, was fantastic, it'll stay with me for ever. Work commitments are a pain, but she's been a couple of times since and she's got the bug, another Blade for life!!!

I have a shocking memory but things like your first game last a lifetime. Mine was against Leeds Tuesday 17 August 1971, my birthday was 2 days later, I think we won 3-0.
My lad is going to have his first Shred tour experience on Saturday with a trip to Bury via wherever. It will be a first for his grandad as well!

My lads first was Exeter this season 4-4. (used someones season ticket)
He has since been to every F A Cup game so he has seen us score a total of 13 goals in four games.

He keeps badgering me to take him to more league games but as Im a season ticket holder I would have to change my seat

As a Father of a 10 year old boy who lives, eats and breathes football and the Blades I am enjoying this thread.
I might print it off and ram it down the throat of the wizened old twat who verbally abused him at the Notts County match.

kop row d.. yeah i was witness to that.. outrageous.. i thought i'd better not get involved .. although i was the one saying 'deck the bastard' :D
i had a similar experience at wembley

Row D or Gangway D, SP? If it was row D then it wasn't us. Gangway D, then it was.

what happenned Billy?
My lad sits on the back of his seat so he can see. I'm directly behind him so it doesn't matter about him blocking anyones view. When we scored he stumbled and lost his footing sending him through the seat which flipped to the upright position. When he clambered out he accidentally caught the girl (approx 14) in front with his foot for which he immediately apologised. Her Grandad went medieval on him shouting at him and the lot. Things calmed down for the second half but he started again at full time.
He pointed at my Lad and said to me "Is he yours?"
He told me to go and sit in the family stand.
My Brother nearly chinned him because he was jabbing his finger in front of his face.
When my lad started crying and shouting at him, he looked astonished and said "Is there something wrong with him?" meaning retarded or something.
I could feel the red mist descending which my brother could see and started dragging me away. The last thing my Son needed to see was his Dad chinning an old bloke and getting banned from the ground. The old fellas son must have seen things deteriorating as well cos he dragged his Dad away.
My Son is one of the most caring kids I know, he's not like some of the scrotes you see trawling the streets nowadays which is what annoyed me the most, he didn't deserve this tirade, especially from someone from the age group I am trying to teach him to respect the most.
Left a sour taste in the mouth and my Son is not as keen on going to the match as he used to be.
If you're on here and you're reading this I hope you're proud of yourself. BUT the reason he wasn't there at the Hartlepool match was nothing to do with you, he wanted to sit with his Uncle who was on his own for a change. He's not going tonight either because he's going to his first Scouts meeting. You won't stop him.
And, because he's so caring he could well end up working in a nursing home so in 8 years time he could well end up wiping your arse.

Here's something to get him started

Hope he gets to the next game unabused.
It's a special time taking your lad to the game - got a poster of my lad at one of his first games pictured with Captain Blade. Memries
The young lads first trips to the Lane with you are something to treasure.

Thanks for telling us Billy.
Hope it got some anger out by banging the keys on the keyboard :-)

We all go for the same reason to matches and why people can't be tolerant of others around us just bugs me.

I bet we have all stumbled out of our seats at sometime or other into others or lost our footing. It happens.....
Falling out with people, especially kids is not on!

Lets hope he is still going to watch the Blades for Years to come.. And the old guys grandaughter as well to be fair!

I have took my son over the last few years and to see his face when Jamie Ward ran straight to us after scoring the first against the pigs the other year was priceless!!! The joys of fatherhood :-)

Not my son's but my Grandsons first game was Scunthorpe at Home, it was in February, and I got him really looking forward to it, teams came out, and I said we would be 3-0 up at half time, they had a player sent off, I revised it to 4-0 at half time. Half time came 0-0, I said wait till the second half, then you will see some great football and goals, finished 0-0 , thanks Robson........ However he still enjoyed it, and now has a season ticket with me. see once you have seen the Mighty Blades you are hooked for life>

im on gangway d where was your seats?

About halfway down, Stanny, just to the left of the gangway (if you were walking towards the pitch).
I'm not gonna say the exact seats because I don't want this to turn into some sort of witch-hunt.
My lad has already said he's definitely going to the next match. Knowing him, he'll probably have grown about a foot and a half by then!

When I were a lad we stood behind the goal, looking through the fence. If we put our knees through the railings a bobby would come along and threaten to smack them with his truncheon.

Kids today.... ?
