My Concerns about Blackman

First of all, for context, let's just remind ourselves of some of the mugs we've had in goals in the last decade.

For me, recognising Blackman as a WIP, the question is whether have any realistic aspirations to keep him beyond this season. If not, let's let someone else provide his on the job training, and put Moore back in.

It's a weird one. Half of me thinks that if we had Moore in net, we might have come away from the Fulham game having conceded possibly two less, and the second against Millwall was a bit iffy.

The defence has been shaky, but the shots on target against to goals conceded ratio is very off-putting.

Maybe we'd have got a point against Fulham. Maybe Moore would have saved the second against Millwall and we'd have come away with a point or a win. Who fucking knows?

I don't want to commit to 'Blackmans shot stopping is a bit naff' as an opinion, because he's had some very good games for us, but it's in my mind.

Yep. I have been uncertain since he started but couldn't' put my finger on what I didn't like. I've backed him until now as being someone who needn't be dropped as opposed to shouldn't be dropped. However, Im still not sure, but the only thing I can think of is that on shots he gives up too easily. Low shots, I can see his problem. He is a big unit and he will feel he can't get down as quick and lets stuff go. He then looks lackadaisical. The higher stuff is weird. It is almost as though his attitude is that with his height and reach he doesn't' need to go for it. If he can't stop it without waving an arm at it then there's no point. As I say I'm still not sure but these are impressions I have. picking it out of the air and being an intimidating presence is a given. The rest?????

Having watched Moore all last season and Blackman this, Blackman is in front for me, but I'm happy to have Moore pressing him.

Two things that bother me :
- "play Moore cause he's ours". Absolute bollocks

- "Moore is a better communicator" - because he was heard shouting last year. There's nothing worse than a keeper shouting bollocks all the time. Not saying he was shouting bollocks, but because someone has heard him shout does not make him a "good communicator"

Why isn’t there a love button? A like isn’t quite enough for this post. Nail = head.

This might be a simplistic point of view. But with very little between the keepers, I'm great believer in a meritocracy and felt CW should have kept SM in the team until he suffered severe loss of form or was injured. To choose JB again as soon as he was fit, didn't send a very encouraging message to SM.

Wilder made it quite clear in his interview last week that certain players can’t be expected to fire on all cylinders after extended periods out of the team, they’d need several games to get up to speed. He said if Lafferty were to come straight in he’d take a few games, and he used the appearance of Moore vs Hull as an example for that line of thinking. Wilder’s under no illusions that Moore looked a bit rusty when he was thrown in. In terms of meritocracy, Moore didn’t do enough in that Hull game to warrant being kept in with Blackman’s return from injury.

Neither are great, but we have had a lot lot worse. Both have strengths and weaknesses, JB is very good at coming for crosses, something I think is SM's weak point, SM is a better shot stopper and communicator. For me, as I cannot pick a clear favourite on performances, I would go with SM as he is our player and needs to play to develop further.

Let's have it right, people were saying Moore couldn't deal with long shots and that was in L1 when he had Donkey McShitfoot types taking shots at him. How's he suddenly improved?

Do keep up. He's got better because some don't rate Blackman. That's all it needs to elevate him to greatness. ( a couple wanted Long back instead of him last year)

It's a bit like Quinny's Law. Doesn't matter how many didn't rate the player, if his transfer can be used as a stick to beat the club with, he was a footballing god.
