We beat them yesterday and deserved it, their fans saying stuff like "worst team we've played since x,y,z"

It's music to my ears, teams used to say it about us all the time because we would spoil when we had to but we also have moments of flair and class.

I hope we hear it a lot more this season after we beat teams.

We could easily have heard it from Man U, Forest and maybe Palace but we lost those matches so we agree we were crap.

We heard similar kind of comments last season with away fans consistently saying “how can that team be top 2” and “take away N”Diaye and Berge and they are mid table at best”.

However we didn’t hear those comments type of comments when Wilder was manager.

In the Championship, opposition fans consistently said “they are so well drilled”, “you can see why Sheff Utd are near the top”. We even had a few comments, like away at Bolton and away at Blackburn with their fans saying “we were outclassed, that’s the best side to come to this ground for a few years”.

In the Premier League, took a while to receive any credit, it was consistently “can’t believe how bad we played”. Spurs and Arsenal fans were saying that’s the worse they’ve played in years because they rarely threatened us at the Emirates or White Hart Lane. The other comments were “Sheff Utd are just winning on momentum, once it stops they’ll struggle because none of their players are any good”.

Also we did look quite crap against Wolves 1st half and was only a little better 2nd half. What made us win was our effort and will to win, not so much our quality but appreciate that confidence can effect quality, so now we’ve won one I’m hoping we’ll perform better.

It’s highly possible 25 to 30 points might be enough to keep a team up this season.

For Wilder's two seasons in the Championship, every single Roy's View From was a variation of: "They caught us on a bad day", "Worst we've played all season" and "They were poor but we were even worse". From our perspective, it was quite obvious that we were the common factor in all of those teams having 'off days'.

Sadly, in 2020/21 and this season so far, a lot of the View Froms have been variants of: "Not fancy, but we got the job done", "Didn't get out of second gear, but we didn't need to" and "We were excellent today".

Let's see more of us making life bloody difficult for the opposition!

When Chris Wilder was manager the main excuse for us winning was “We didn’t turn up“ 🤣🤣

Spot on.
To quote Jean Paul Sartre : “in football, everything is complicated by the presence of the opposite team”.

Let’s hope we see a few more visiting teams having an ‘off day’ at the Lane over the coming weeks.

.

Ndaiye’s 1st season he was getting upto speed with MGW been someone he aimed to emulate, 2nd season he did

1st half last season McAtee and Doyle took until Xmas to get upto speed of the league, then they kicked on and were star men

This season McAtee seems to have taken 10 games to get upto speed at a higher level, Hamer 1st season in EPL and Souza is feeling his way in

If those 3 can produce and replicate the improvement in standards, we can be ok
Same goes for Archer tbf

Non are proven EPL players, hopefully they now feel at home at this level and kick on

There’s an excellent article in the most recent Pinch column. It shows that we do generally play better against mid table and lower teams than we do against the top six, who have the added protection of casual bias from referees.
We still have to catch them unawares and over confident, which was the case with Wolves who came to the lane expecting a much easier game.

Aye
Don’t play as well against the top 6 you say ?
Reckon I’ll have a squint @ the article to work out why (even excluding “casual bias”)
