I'll keep this pretty brief. He, along with Flynn, has been outstanding in the past few games. I can only put this down to Clough telling them to be more direct. It was always clear he had ability. It's just nice to see him use it now.

Very impressed with him and he had some Premier League players absolutely shitting themselves today.

Keep it up!

Another positive is that all of the new signings looked very competent, which is nice to be able to say. Brayford looks to be a huge improvement over McMahon. He coped well with their players today and got forward very well.

Fingers crossed, things are looking up.

Hear hear in terms of being able to play against teams that let us do so and I thought you couldn't really tell which side was two divisions higher, but it needs translating into league form (like it wasn't post Villa) before we can start to breathe more easily.

Massive, massive praise for all bar one for today. don't let it all go to waste lads.

Can take a huge tick can the players today against a fulham team(much like us)punching below the overall squads calibre.
They had some excellent players on show today, and compared to teams like swansea, west ham, cardiff, sunderland, hull -they should be very capable to compete very well against the above mentioned.
Scougall was impressive from the first touch-quick to the ball and aggresive, not frightened to run at an opposing player and fearless.
Murphy was outstanding, got back at every opportunity and pushed on at every opportunity.
Flynn should have got a penallty for defo,i think the ref was one sided following doyles stupid dismissal.
We looked dangerous on the attack against a good side today,be it for there possesion we were very much comfortable with them.
Well done blades,a very organised and positive game.

Doyle I would have thought ? Coady wasn't brilliant, but Doyle should know better. Great cup tie that Talksport on the way home from the match were raving about.

I know he was talking about Doyle, I was semi joking. I did think Coady was quite poor though. For a big bloke, he's so weak in the tackle it's untrue, and his passing is quite inaccurate or just plain lackadaisical.

Agree with every word of that.

Flynn, Murphy and Scougall all had cracking games. I can really see how the team is shaping up and i think we are just a couple of players short of a side that will tear this division a new arsehole next season.

I bet the Flynn and Murphy critics are taking a good look a themselves of late.

I've been a critic. Was it not deserved because if not, why are they being praised now? Flynn really can beat a man - great stuff. Given that, it's a shame he has barely tried over the last 2 years, and perhaps he should look an himself rather than his critics at themselves. And I bet he is doing.

I'm chuffed to bits with the turn around in their play, especially Flynn who had enough games and failed to impress.

Well done to Clough for rejuvenating them, and to the players for responding. They are like 2 new signings.

Murphy and Flynn strike me as two who need an arm around the shoulder. Both look different players under NC's management; for one reason or the other Wilson and Weir didn't get anywhere near this level of performance out of them.

We still need that real goal threat in the area though, some one to drag the defense around, and make the holes for the rest to punch through...

Can Paynter do it ?

I think Paynter and Baxter have the makings of a decent partnership - can't see us getting any better than that in the JTW, unless NC pulls off another masterstroke.

Baxter got 13 last season in a poor Oldham side, Paynter got 13 for Donny and in his season before at L1 got 26 at Swindon. But yep we could do with another.

MOTM today for me. It can take some players a little time to settle into a new area and a new league and Murphy may be one. He is improving game by game and looked full of running and it was purposeful running at that. Full marks to Clough and team for getting this from him. Now how do we convince this team that they are playing against PL teams every game?

I think we can all see how Mr Clough would like to have us playing , and the cup games are the perfect example , if say we were mid table and safe that's how he would have us playing on a weekly basis , how ever at the moment being in the drop zone we have to be more cautious and conservative in our approach to league games , weir really fucked us up this season and hopefully Mr Clough can turn it around and I think he will, and he is now getting the players together for a good go next season , I really hope that the club is further up the table when we play Brentford and fuck him and his new team , think the players owe it to him to show what a wank manager he really is and show him , how this team under a good manager can play . UTB .

Why? For not accepting a series of poor substandard performances under Weir and Wilson reigns?

Precisely. I've had a lot of 'I told you so's about Flynn recently, but it's nonsense. Flynn in particular has stepped up his game now, and credit where it's due, he's been brilliant and I have enjoyed watching his recent performances. However, this doesn't take away from the fact he has simply not been good enough for 2 years. We're finally seeing what he can do, but still stand by he was sh*te up until December 2013!

We knew Flynn could do it remember the Bournemouth game at home.
I don't think he knew what Wilson wanted from him.
Weirs time here I'd rather forget.
Murphy I believe is now fully fit he was always carrying a few niggles now he could be anything.
Clough will be the key to their development

I think Flynn enjoys and looks more dangerous when there's space in front of him, and he can run at his full back from a wide position towards goal. He seems to have finally got the instruction to exploit that space and he's so much more direct now. It's probably also a confidence thing, but tactical instructions must have played a big part in his good form.

His limitation is probably still to get crosses in when he's near the sideline and well closed down before he can start running. He can't rely on pace alone, like Murphy can. Although he's done well against Premiership opposition twice we shouldn't automatically expect him to do equally well in league games, as the pattern of games is often completely different.

Flynn probably gave us half a dozen decent performances in 2 and a bit years before Clough, and Jamie Murphy couldnt run at a man, beat a man and often looked disinterested.

What is slightly annoying is that when we get a second chance to cross from say a rebound it is always overhit beyond the back post.

I've always believed wide men need to be continually encouraged to take men on Clough is obviously doing this with the pair of them.

This reminds me of when Quinn started to play well after his Elpiton years under SemiPro and Quickfix.

All credit to players like Flynn when they show vast improvement (he has and it's very pleasing) but it doesn't automatically prove critics wrong; arguably, quite the contrary.

It seems someone has told Flynn to dribble directly at defenders and Murphy to simply push and run past them. This gives Flynn a chance to put defenders off balance (which he has to do as he can seldom out-pace them), and Murphy a chance to avoid those blind alleys he was so fond of. Also, Murphy is releasing the ball with much more intelligence than he has shown before, cutting the ball back more often than crossing aerially.

It all reeks of good coaching.

Confidence players both of them.

They both played great today and hope they continue like that.

Yeah great to see the pair of them coming good. Keith Edwards has banged on about it for long enough, even getting a backlash from Murphy... But as Keith said on the comms yesterday, this is exactly what he's talked about!

There was no fear from the likes of Flynn and Murphy yesterday which is great to see.

Also, just goes to show what bollocks people talk about the system. Yesterday we played 4-4-2, 4-3-3 and 4-5-1 at different times of the game in the end I think we went 4-5-0 but still had Scougall and Murphy getting at them

The heavy pitch and high tempo will do the fitness no harm, but there'll be some heavy legs today.

Clough has got these boys motivated and confident for cup games. We were extremely organised as well, but broke quickly. Good to see/ hear

I think a big difference is we have snagged the best manager at the club since Warnock. I liked Wilson but he was limited, but in Clough we have someone who is really trying to get us attacking down the flanks and going at teams. I know results haven't come but if we turn the cup performances into the League then we will be safe.

I don't buy the Premiership teams give you more space theory either. They are better players so you would think they are quicker and have better positioning. If you can beat a Premiership defender you can sure as hell beat a League One defender.

assistant manager is Gary Crosby ,a winger ,Murphy and Flynn are flying since he came ,cant be a coincidence. Maybe he also sees a flaw in Brandy ?
