Not read his book, what did he say? Never met him personally but I've heard off a couple that he was all mouth and no substance. 'Media darling' was one description I heard.

How the fuck did Chris Guthrie get anywhere near this thread?
I'll see your Barry Butlin, and raise it with Don Peattie
On to Pond Street and they'd mobbed up, only about 30 of them but they had knives drawn and were ready to go, no matter, we steamed into them and fair play they stood but got battered. The big black lad who was game as can be got smashed over the head with one of those yellow bins that used to be strapped to the lamp posts and down he went, cue a bit of a kickfest and it was only the cops who saved him from a serious 70's style whacking.
West Ham got there early that day, and had some big old lumps in the middle of the Kop giving it the big 'un. 99% sure that Bill Lennard was in the middle keeping them together but can't be certain, although Mr Pennant did admit that Bramall Lane was the only place that he saw Billy boy get battered in a later book ;-) Anyway, as usual we arrived late after they'd strutted their stuff and moved them on. Pretty uneventful off the pitch during the game after that, but it went off all over after the final whistle went.
They didn't have a massive mob but did have some good lads so it was game on, saw one of theirs sparko on Shoreham Street with a perfect DM print embedded on his face while his mate was whining to the coppers to "get the Yorkshire barstard who did 'im"

Not saying it was Mr P, but he does talk about Pond Street bus station in the opening chapter of one of his books. His recollection is different to mine and I'm 100% sure that I remember it the way it was, I'm sure he's the same so who knows, who cares, it was a lifetime ago and on the day we were kings, both on and off the pitch and nothing and no one will ever change my mind on that.
Apologies if this is way off topic and also if it appears to glorify violence, that's just how it was in the 70's.
Come on Blades!!!!!
