Most pointless Blades game attended?

A match I didn't get to, Peterborough away around 2011. Got to a service station in Lincolnshire only to be told the game had been called off. The coach headed straight back to Sheffield. It was the only game called off that day.

I remember going to Lincoln in league Cup 2nd round, it was 2 legs back then. We'd already won at home about 6.0 so the 2nd leg was like a friendly.
That was going to be my choice. Drab 1-0 defeat. A real waste of everyone’s time.

Same, just got into the Spoons outside the station to hear it was off. Rumour was they forgot to put the covers on.

Police were keen to get everyone back on trains but many of us hung around and made a day of it. Was incredibly refreshed by the time I’d made it back to Sheffield.

I remember buying tickets for Crewe away in Wilson's second season (around March time) thinking it would be in the middle of a glorious promotion push. It got snowed off and was re-arranged for midweek in the final week of the season.

We were a drifting play-off team by then and lost 2-0 to Crewe playing a bunch of kids. Total waste of six hours,

I think we lost to Yeovil in the play offs - great times
Went to that Crewe game. Barry Robson stood out for a particularly awful performance.

Highlight was getting 2 fish cakes from the famous chippy, one pre match and left 15 mins early to pick up another for the way home.

Friendly vs Chengdu on a cold night in January, 2007.

Only Bramall Lane lower and part of South stand open. A turgid affair with Blades fielding a side which was probably closer to a “Sheffield United XI” than a reserve side.

Spent the 2nd half in the Sheldon.

We’ve not long passed the 16 year anniversary of going to Leyton Orient for a pint in one of the crappest pubs in existence, followed by sitting in a market car park for hours and then coming back home.

I suppose it’s pointless attending any friendly game as the result is pointless.

So, in terms of a competitive 1st team game, it would be Hartlepool away in the JPT. It was freezing, I can’t even remember if we won or lost, but I remember their keeper was called Flinders.

We will n you'll be glad to hear!

We played em 2 years running away in it, I've got a feeling I went to both but I definitely remember the penalty shootout in one of em, we won the other one too, I've had to Google that though but something is telling me I was there. That's when you know it's pointless when you remember nothing about it.

What's the over/under line for attendance tomorrow.

Surely will be one of our lowest attendances for a home FA cup game in a while I imagine.

We cant even be arsed to have a matchday thread for it lol

Just checked back. I could have swore their keeper was called Flinders as I remember our lot singing “flinders licks windows” but having googled it, the keeper wasn’t called Flinders. Am I going mad or was that a different game?
You are correct, that was the league cup game there we won on penalties in 2011.

Yeovil away in May 2013.

Has there ever been a group of fans less enthused about the second leg of a play off semi final?

And we even went there with a 1-0 lead!

Dark times.
Yes good shout, not one of us wanted to be there. Not a very good few years them.

Crowd singing 'Flinders licks winders'?
I get confused as I have been to Hartlepool so many times. But it might be the same game? I got free tickets from some promotion at work by the sponsors. Didn't know I had to go in the home end!
A few Hartlepool lads around me started chatting at half time and I put on a pretty bad North Eat accent which they weren't sure about.
I had a word with a steward and explained the situation, saying I probably wouldn't be able to not celebrate if we scored. He let me in the away end. The lads chatting to me gave me a bit of grief as the steward walked me to the other stand :)
I think we won on penalties so they had some back at the end. All good fun.
I also remember McCabe sitting near me on the away end with some other Utd staff. I don't think he joined in with the 'Flinders Licks Winders' chant though, clearly not the big Blade he said he was!!

When was the last time we played a Championship home game with no chance of getting in to the play offs or being relegated?

Remember watching it at home, got so dis-interested I went out to pick my daughter up from somewhere and forgot to check the result when I got in. It was about 2hrs after the match had finished before I remembered.
I have never done that before or since.

Who was the Italian side we played a few days after winning promotion in 1990… that was a bit ridiculous

Preston at home in April 2018?

That was the penultimate game of the season though.

We won 2-3 at Bristol City on the final day.

Finished 10th, 6 points off the play offs.

Think it was Leicester at the Lane, last match of the season. We had to win by 5 to avoid relegation.

I turned up thinking “Yes, we can do this !” Think it ended 2-2.

Oh how I believed in the Blades in my youth.

Not sure of the year.

Not united but some anniversary match sheffield FC V Ajax at the lane around 2009. Took my now wife who I'd be on to her about looking forward to this so couldn't just leave and look like a right twat. The whole Laver stand just didn't want to be there and it seemed everyone bought a packed lunch and a flask.

Very bizzare match experience.

That was my first thought but that Preston game, United could still theoretically get there
