9, when we beat Orient 6-3.

Btw didn't we get a penalty that day bc their keeper threw a punch at one of our players?

Any other high scoring games?

One that comes to mind was a 4-4 draw against Birmingham under Kendall. Think we were a couple down pretty early on.

Isn't our record win 10-0 away to (Burslem) Port Vale?

5-4 v Brighton in 1989.

4-4 v Brum in Kendall's 1st full season.

Walsall 2-8 SUFC tonight of course.

No. Stan (I think) had a header from a corner that was going in and their defender did a spectacular dive and caught the ball. There was a pic in the next programme of him holding the ball with a wry smile on his face as the United players appeal. You couldn't possibly get a more obvious pen! He wasn't sent off though. That pen made it 3-3.

We got another pen in injury time as Edwards was chopped down. That was scored as well.

Also 10-0 v Burnley in 1928-29.

Most goals in a game is the 11-2 over Cardiff in 1925-26.

16 March 1982

Sheffield United 7 Northampton Town 3

Attendance: 15,701 and we all got wet. Pissed it down all night

I do remember it raining all the game and that the pitch had a lot of surface water

Help an old man with his memory please; was this the game that Keith stepped over the ball and ran around the keeper before scoring in the empty net, kop end?

Remember it well. Were 6-0 up half way through the second half and double figures looked possible until we eased off.

No that was v Bristol Rovers on 14/4/84.

Interestingly enough, that Northampton game (33 years by date yesterday) followed a very bad result at Scunthorpe a few weeks before. That loss at Scunthorpe was, I think, the last one and we went unbeaten to the end of the season. Omen?

I've a feeling that was Shrewsbury, but Darren will be along soon to sort it all out

Tuesday night from memory.

Bob Hatton scored that night and did some sort of fancy turn (similar to the Currie - NOT Cryff turn) down in front of the kop.
Those were the days when no one did owt special or different - how times change. I liked Bob Hatton, nice footballer.

Didn't we put 7 past the pigs once? 1950s maybe?

Also; Sheffield United 11 Cardiff City 2 (Division One, 1st January 1926)

and

Sheffield United 0 Bolton Wanderers 13 (FA Cup 2nd Round, 1st February 1890)

Matthew Sunderland (1909-1989) who was a friend of mine that played for the same chess club as me told me quite a few stories about the Blades in 1920s and 1930s. He went to that 11-2 win against Cardiff at the Lane on New Years Day 1926. He said when we scored the 10th goal most of the spectators threw their hats in the air to celebrate the 10th goal but most of them had to search for their hats afterwards in the terraces
