Not too bothered about cup runs this season but that game came at a good time for us and I'm just glad to get any sort of win. Looking forward to the game at BDTBL on saturday a lot more now!

I never knew he could run that fast...

Fair play to Collo...not my favourite player, but can't fault his commitment.UTB!

At least he learned to do it at the right end after Saturday LOL

Cheers for posting that Foxy. Like people have said, there are a few positives to be taken from this game, not least young Stefan's performance and the goal. Sounds like Edgar did OK. A few negatives too - we were lucky to come away with a clean sheet according to the radio, and it sounded like Howard had a couple of dodgy moments. Still, a few first teamers were rested and we got a result.

Strange decision to take Edgar off unless he'd got a knock. Though actually in hindsight it was an "inspired substitiution" as he was replaced by Collins

1-0 Collins

We knew the three minutes of added time was up when we got the corner. The prospect of 30 minutes added time was hanging over us. If we hadn't scored, we'd have settled for allowing them to walk the ball into our net so we could all go home :-)

Some positives, Freeman was very impressive, MOM for me and did far more attacking than Scoogs, but his final ball wasn't great.

Edgar can head a ball and didnt drop any clangers. James Wallace played the full game and looked strong and has the ability to make space for himself and play an incisive pass.

Sammon looks like a big useless lump, who works hard to little effect. He had a clear shot in both halves and didn't hit the target with either, it's easy to see why he doesn't score many.

Scougall looks poor in any position because.... he is a poor player I'm afraid. Tries his best bless him but he is a boy playing a mans game in this league. How many assists and goals did he get last season?

Hope he can prove me wrong this season!

Had a great game tonight, vision and time on the ball. Nice to watch.

Maybe they were worried about extra-time and didn't want him playing 120 minutes and risk wearing him out for Saturday. I don't know anything about his pre-season so maybe he hasn't had a full game yet and 120 minutes would have been far too much?

I think that was definitely the case. Be interesting to see how we line up on Saturday . Kieron Wallace gained a lot of praise from Adkins afterwards so maybe he will be in at left back and by all accounts Scougall also did well.

Given how bad McFadzean supposedly was on Saturday I hope Wallace replaces him (if he was better, which thankfully it sounds like he was).

Of course the other option is McEverley at left back with Collins in the middle. Not sure where McEverley is worse though to be honest

Wins a win even if winner with 45secs to go & didnt sound the mosf convincing of performances but nice to be in next rd but did feel in a rock & hard place because no one wants to any games especially after that on Saturday unsure if I want a cup run (bar the JPT) but like ive said everytime before a draw that would love swfc at Home in 2nd rd but thats a slim chance probably

Glad for Collins after his problems last yr but my only doubt preseason was his yr long clough imposed exile. & that ge be rusty when he started in the 1st team again

I wouldn't be too upset with Mceveley at LB to be honest. I think he's a far better option than McFadzean who is out of position and out of his depth. I think McEveley has come under a bit of unfair criticism really. He's not the best defender in the world but everything that goes wrong does seem to be attached to him at the moment which isn't fair in my view.

You are right to be fair. He is getting more stick than anyone else purely because he has been chosen as captain. I think this decision to award him the armband has seen him criticized even more and to be honest it will continue unless he somehow manages to find some real form

He is an average player at this level which on the evidence of Saturday is actually a step up from mcfadzean. Certainly defensively

James Wallace played the full game and looked strong and has the ability to make space for himself and play an incisive pass.

Let's hope he didn't pull something getting changed after the game.

Be very interested to see what happens with him this Saturday, has he got two games on the trot in him?

Good to read that though.

What a way to prove all those nobs saying he shouldn't be in the team.

McEveley should have been on the bench, not Collins.
Why?
He scored a goal, which is a bonus but not his main job, that is to defend. You could say that McEveley proved his point by playing in a defence that kept a clean sheet.

Of course, not forgetting the only reason you knew the three minutes of injury time was up was due Greenwich Mean Time and his Magnificent Stopwatch.

Besides, I'm sure the only reason you were desperate for a goal was it would mean not having to listen to anymore tales of Free Prize Draws at Circle K Flitwick and the like.

I was at the game last night and there definitely a few of the clichéd positives to take from the game. Attacking wise we looked threatening, especially when the Adams and J.Wallace got the ball. The difference between these two and the rest of the team is that, when space allows, they immediately look to attack at pace. Over the last season or so our attacking play has been far too pedestrian. As someone else has mentioned, Wallace also has an ability to play some penetrating balls into key areas of the pitch - thought he looked a class above everyone else and really hoping that he will stay fit and cement a place in this team. Sammon held the ball up well and brought others into play, something we were also missing last season. However, whilst there were a number of slick United moves during the game, the passing was also a little wayward on occasion - probably because we are trying to play at a higher tempo which provides a greater test of the player's technical ability.

Defensively I thought we still looked vulnerable and Morecambe could and should have had a couple of goals. Still don't think we have resolved the left back issue. Whilst Wallace was reasonably steady, I think League 1 wingers may give him some trouble. However, there are signs of improvement here as well with Edgar giving us some presence in the air.

Overall, it was a half decent away performance and Collins' reaction to scoring is probably an indicator of how important it was to get a win last night from a confidence perspective.

We looked much more dangerous in the second half and I think it was mainly to do with Adams coming on and injecting a change of pace to the team. The tempo of our play picked up and we looked more capable of getting in behind the defence. It only seemed to be Freeman getting in behind in the first half.

The biggest thing last night was a clean sheet. Howard struggled with a couple of crosses but reacted well and I think his confidence grew. The save he made from the wicked deflection was a great stop given how quickly he had to change direction. It was never going to be easy after Saturday against a team that were right up for it, and it wasn't convincing but I felt we were relatively comfortable. It's a step in the right direction and it was much needed after Gillingham.
