SHEFFIELD UNITED: Blades in advanced talks over Premier ace

NEGOTIATIONS between Sheffield United and at least one Premiership club aimed at delivering top-flight talent to Bramall Lane are at an advanced stage, The Star can reveal.
The development comes after sources at Tottenham Hotspur, who have been locked in a two-way battle with Everton over the signatures of Kyle Naughton and Kyle Walker, insisted they have agreed to sign United's coveted defensive duo.

Although Kevin Blackwell declined to name the players involved, he has previously gone on record to admit that Ched Evans, the Manchester City striker, features among his top priorities in the transfer market.

"I'm hopeful of getting something sorted-out pretty soon and there are discussions going on," the United manager said.

"I want to get things sorted-out sooner rather than later because the longer people are here the better they will have settled-in by the time the season starts."

Mystery still surrounds United's reticence to comment publicly on Naughton and Walker's next destination and it is only possible to speculate about the reasons for the delay.

Spurs, however, are adamant both will be officially unveiled when Walker returns from England European U19 Championships duty in Ukraine.

The fates of Glen Little and Julian Gray, who have spent the past fortnight on trial with United, are expected to become clearer before Saturday's friendly at Bury.

Speaking ahead of this evening's fixture at Chesterfield, Blackwell said: "I will probably be making a decision by the end of the week. The lads will be the first to know.

"I wouldn't keep them here right until the start of the season and then let them go because then it wouldn't give them much chance of getting fixed-up elsewhere."
