Moore Sacked

Hey guys,
WBA fan here in peace. Signed up a few weeks back after we played but haven't had chance to log on.

I wanted to say how well you guys played. You did a real job on us. You were well organised, your game plan was pretty simple but effective and your fans were probably the loudest I've heard at The Hawthorns for a while. Obviously I'm gutted, but you guys had the desire and urgency that we lacked. We were frustrated that your players closed our lot down at speed while we just ambled around and let your players run free. So.… well played lol.

Onto Moore being sacked...

There's a mixed reaction from our side. Most would agree that he wasn't getting things right and it has been going on for a long time, not just over the past few games. His team selections have been odd and his tactics have been non-existent. The players don't know what they're doing and today was a classic example. We were set up as a 5-3-2, a 4-4-2, a 3-5-2 and a 5-2-3 at various points. It's bizarre. Playing players out of position is just lazy, especially when he had players at his disposal who could play in those positions. And finally, we don't have any creativity since Barnes went back to Leicester. No plan B when the opposition close us down.

I'm thankful for all that he's done. But him and Jones had to go.
 
Good to hear the WBA view above. Surprised so many (both with attachment to the club and not) are publicly criticising the decision to sack Moore. With probably the best squad (or at least it was with Barnes) and in the top few budgets in the division, I would be fairly confident Moore's brief at the start of the season was promotion. He wouldn't have delivered that and coupled with obvious tactical limitations, I am not surprised he has gone.

If someone who can organise them and find the best option to play the #10 role they would be a real danger in the play-offs. However, as anyone associated with SUFC will testify, play-offs are a real gamble and the best side doesn't always triumph.

It’s no job for a novice. I can see why the club felt they had to give him the job at the end of last season but I’m not sure their thinking had real clarity. Did they ask themselves ‘how important is it to go straight back up?’ If the answer is ‘vital’, then they should have gone for the manager most likely to achieve that.
 
It's clear to me that WBA have used United's 2012-13 season as the blueprint, when we sacked Wilson in order to get our promotion train back on the rails.

What did you think of Jones as a coach ?

You did a job on us at the lane second half after we'd dominated early on , that game actually turned our season around as we were severely lacking options when teams stopped us playing

I suppose a little like our result at yours seemed to be a turning point in your season as you seemed to be on a bit of a roll before that

Shame about Moore but he's found out like ole gunner soljskaer will that it is easier when your steadying the ship than when you're trying to get it in the harbour
 
Could prove a masterstroke.

Fantastic squad for this level. If someone can get them playing like a team they will be favourites for the play offs, if not even better should ourselves and Leeds falter.
 
Most neutrals looking at this as an outrageous sacking but if they want an explanation the easiest thing to do is look at the financial gap between PL and the championship. To retain so many players on high wages makes it more or less essential to go back up before parachute payments end. So 4th place doesn't sound bad but it's another step towards disaster.

They probably realise if they don't win the playoffs they'd have to spend for Moore to have a good chance of taking them up, which is crazy when you look at the squad.

All that is before you actually watch them play recently.

Personally I wasn't keen on Jones. He seemed intent on controlling things, rather than just offering his opinion as 2nd in command. I think he was to blame for us continually playing out from the back and asking players to do things they're not capable of doing. Continually doing this has cost us quite a few goals and therefore points.

The thing is, all through the season I've not seen a performance that's made me feel we're ready for promotion. We lack almost everything a promotion chasing team requires. I totally agree with the ship comment. Can't help but feel if Man Utd aren't winning the title by this time next year fans will be calling for his head. Just like fans have been at WBA. Moore shouldn't have been given the job in the first place.

You need someone to.come in and do what Bruce has done at the truffle hunters ,tighten up at the back, be hard to play against and with the quality you've got you should be able to.score goals from.nothing

I didn’t realise how much Jones had followed Martinez around. I knew he’d joined you from Belgium but I didn’t know he’d been at Swansea, Wigan and Everton too.

Always the same problem, too open at the back.

Is this down to your board wanting to pander to those supporters who were crying out for good football? Was Moore under pressure not just to go up but to go up stylishly?

Again, as per my previous post, is it muddled priorities? If it’s essential you go straight back up, then there can only be one priority, one aim, one goal.

Yeah you're right with regards someone to come in and sort the defence, but it's crazy because Moore was a defender, so it's odd that our defence is a shambles. Individually, I think we have some quality defenders, but they just cannot get it together as a unit. And for me that comes back to management. There's no doubt that we're in a false position in the league. Since Barnes has left us we've been completely devoid of creativity and can't seem to break teams down. When we played you guys a few weeks back, your players knew the game plan. Ours didn't. Your players ran to close us down, yet we stood off you. It's been like it all season, not just the past few games.

I think we were battered under Pulis and Pardew. Our only plan under Pulis was to score first and protect the 1-0 lead. But when we went a goal down we had no way back into the match. And under Pardew he never had the respect of the players, he didn't lose the dressing room because he never had it in the first place. When Moore was brought in, we'd been through so much and the club was in tatters. The fans were restless and had been for about 3 or 4 years and we were at an all time low. Even the chairman got sacked. Moore brought the club together and made everyone love WBA again and we went on to win some "unwinnable" matches. But I think that's where it should have stopped. If only we'd brought in an outside face during the summer and sent Moore back to assistant things may have been so different.

All along, Moore has said he wanted to play stylish football and win matches, and when we thumped QPR 7-1 we all thought "this is it!" but even back then we were shoddy and didn't seem to be able to win with a performance. So it depends what "good football" is.

On our official site, part of the statement read that the club's aim was to gain promotion and that Moore hasn't been able to produce the form that would guarantee this. In this the board have made it clear that they still expect promotion no matter what, but the gamble they're taking is bringing someone in with enough quality who can "guarantee" promotion.
 
Any neutrals criticising the sacking know absolutely nothing.

Leeds away was the most staggeringly incompetent tactical display I've seen for a long time and anyone moaning about how unfair it is should watch that game back.

It's not all about league position, it's about where the season is heading. Under Moore, WBA were done. Simple as. Just like us under Wilson. But WBA have a good squad and won't appoint a Chris Morgan equivalent. Moore wasn't shafted like Wilson was either so the sacking is more justifiable.
 
A few weeks ago I wasn't particularly worried about the playoffs if we drop into it. Obviously, we want automatic and our record isn't good but the competition looked average. Now it looks like Aston Villa will make 6th with Jack Grealish back in, and West Brom appointing someone decent like Wagner or Jokanavic, who have both won the playoffs in recent seasons!

I agree with the Villa comment. They have been extremely poor without him but now he's back I think their form will improve.

We're in a tricky situation at the moment. If we rush to appoint and get it wrong we'll be further screwed, although we're 9 points above 7th so barring disaster we should make play offs. Wagner doesn't seem to want to get back into football until the summer and Jokanavic is dragging his feet.

Some are saying we may as well have kept Moore if we didn't have someone to step in with immediate effect, but our performance on Wednesday in the win over Swansea was much improved.

Wagner isn’t going to walk out on Huddersfield saying he needs a break and then go to West Brom straight after. And I think it’s in breach of his payoff.

Aren’t you concerned that Jokanovich is stalling? What better job is he going to be offered?
