He's an Aussie citizen now. Does that mean I don't love him anymore? #conflicted

Just a matter of time before some cowardly piece of human garbage arrives to perpetuate his twisted vendetta. Not to name names of course.....

No need to be like that about Nick Montgomery. :)

With his newly found Pirloesque ability I expected him to carry on a bit longer!

He's had a good career. Once a Blade......

One of my favourite players. He really did do the unseen work in games. A combative midfield who broke up the play and regular gave the ball to Browny. The 2 complemented each other brilliantly. If it wasn't for Monty, Brown wouldn't have expressed himself half as much.

I ALWAYS appreciated your hard work and determination. Not so appreciated by our opposition. Frank Lampard named you as one of the hardest opponents that he played against in the Premier League.
I was sorry to see you leave SUFC and our club's earlier demise since your departure was no co-incidence in my opinion.
Good luck in your new capacity Monty.

Regardless of footballing ability, he should be respected for his loyalty alone. A scarce commodity in the modern game. I remember reading in Warnock's book that he seemed to transfer list Monty every season, only for him to win his place back.

Good luck Monty.

Good luck. Great attitude. Always got the Full Monty with Monty.

Great pro. Always gave everything and despite not being the best technically actually seemed to do better in the prem than in the championship. If we'd had a few more with his commitment it wouldn't have taken so long to get out of league 1

On top of that also seemed to be a thoroughly decent bloke too. Lots of stories where he took the time to visit club staff in hospital etc.

Only 35, thought he would have carried on for a few more years.

Think it says he is carrying on playing semi pro for Wollongong Wolves, and having an office job for Central Coast Mariners.

Where he will find time for his acting career now, god only knows.

One thing is for sure, as has already been said, despite any limitations, the one player you could count on, week in, week out, to put a full shift in and give 100%, never "going missing" in an Blades game, was Nick "Monty" Montgomery.

My best rows on previous message boards were with BM re Monty. Good luck Monty, never gave less than 100%, would fit in well in a Wilder team, especially in the Championship, where you need a bit more bite.

He really, really wouldn't. Tufty likes proper footballers who play the right way. Monty was a talentless, ragamuffin shadow-chaser. He played like his boots were on the wrong feet, constantly giving the ball away. Half-decent midfielders at all levels ran rings around him and Frank Lampard has never mentioned him, ever.

He would be a fish out of water in a Tuftyball team, dominating possession, comfortable on the ball, pass and move. Thank Pele it's out of the question.

I ❤️ Traffic cones!

He probably wouldn't fit into this wilder team but he was great for us.

Ability wise he was very lop-sided and broke down plenty of counter attacks for both teams on the pitch, but it's easy (and lazy) to just remember the misplaced passes and dodgy first touches. When Monty did a great job, and that wasn't a rare occurance, you just didn't notice he'd done it because it was the players around him that took the plaudits.
