Monty to sign

With the amount of 'encouragement' you give the club, then maybe that's the plan.

I'll excuse your insult on the basis that you are upset by any comment concerning Monty that falls short of comparing him favourably to Michael Essien.

I don't see any insult in my post, just an observation that you may have been right
with regards to the 'encouragement' bit I may have been slightly sarcastic but it is still not an insult and again just a observation about your main theme of less than positive posts on this forum.

I don't give two hoot's who Monty get's compared to, Monty is Monty and I have no problem with that, if he was as you mention a Michael Essien esq player then he wouldn't be playing for us, but that in no way means that Monty is a bad player just because he isn't as good as someone else who plays a similar position.

oh perrrleeeasseee.. no.. i thought he'd gone due to the 'unprecidented amount of interest' in him.. personally i'm gutted.. monty and quinn again next year.. it's a write off .. already.. we've not even started yet

>but that in no way means that Monty is a bad player just because
no it is because he can't pass for shit.

Sheffield United are proud to announce that our commitment to turgid, sterile, mind-numbing anti-football has been confirmed by our resident ball-chasing highly committed but wholly unskilled scuffler signing a new 15 year contract.

A spokesman said 'Our former non-league reserve goalie regards this signing as crucial to our ongoing policy of pursuing promotion to the Premier League by treating the ball as a red hot coal to be got rid of at all costs. We know our easy to please fans will be delighted that we have fought off interest from all the elite of the Premiership in this honest but painfully limited trier. We look forward to many more misplaced 'passes' and shots that endanger low flying aircraft. We are determined to maintain our standards at SUFC and what better demonstration of that policy than the retention of Nick Montgomery. We expect a direct and immediate effect on season ticket sales but all demands for refunds will be refused. Like it or lump it, and we certainly intend to lump it under the continuing stewardship of Hoof, our manager.

United also announced a revolutionary plan to play with two balls on the pitch next season so as to reduce the annoying interval between Monty winning it and Monty giving it straight back.

Blah, blah BS, BS, etc .......

If the fact that he was players player of the year doesn't tell you owt then you are past redemption.
I am not saying he is Lampard or Essien but neither are we Chelsea.
He needs someone to do the creative stuff next to him. He wins the ball and needs someone to take it from there.
He is not a World beater nor a panel beater and neither is he anywhere near as bad as most of the cynics make out.
He is a decent pro, a loyal servant to the club I love and deserves my 100% backing every time he represents us.
His role is to break up and destroy the opposition attacks and to protect the back 4 -something he is very good at.
It aplso appears that he has to be the perennial scapegoat for the clubs lack of success.
Of course it is much more difficult to create than it is to destroy but that's why the best players get paid the amount they do and fetch the fees they do. I for one am pleased Monty is still a Blade and has committed himself to the club for the next 3 years.

I don't know that he isn't Grecian, put it that way. Got to go and buy his chunky-knit Pullys sometime.

FFS, thought we were finally gettig shut of that useless headless chicken.

At least all that wankers can keep themselves busy clapping him for not falling over for another season.

I'm so glad that we have such an enlightened minority in our support who we can always turn to for clarification on who's good and who isn't.

Praise be the Lord.

Why then is he now one of our top earners?

Our budget has dropped yes, but the salary paid to our clogger in the middle should drop as well, whoever that is, preferably one who can at least control the ball.

I'm not sure as to why everyone is getting so het up about this. I'm neither particularly happy nor particularly disappointed. I think we should be more concerned with if KB is going to bring in a more creative midfielder and who it will be.

I don't think Monty is the downfall of Sheffield United football club. He is not responsible for us playing shit football. Nor do I think that he is a world beater. He does a job and that's that. The guy has strenghts (such as breaking up opposition attacks, work rate etc) and weaknesses (such as passing, control and shooting). He does exactly what it says on the tin and you know what you will get from him.

This is neither a big boost or a blow. What we should be looking for is who will play at the side of him. I would be pretty happy if Williamson was fit and they paired up together. What I don't want to see is Monty and another trier (such as Stephen Quinn) playing week in week out. Monty will not be the reason our midfield is piss poor next season. We know what we will get from him and hence it is very important that Blackwell sings someone to play with him. We cannot rely on the crock that is Williamson (it's a pity because he is very good) and hence it is the managers responsibility to sign a creative midfielder.

How much is he on?

All this from the man who has literally "Got the shirt":D

glad he's signed, we are in danger of not having a team at this rate!

This is great news monty our prolific central midfielder who score goals for fun and picks out that killer pass week in week out has signed a new deal.............. At least thats what i should be saying with all hype about him signing a new contract. No doubt we have now spent a big part of our wage budget for a guy who can't hit a barn door, can't pass wind and won't take part in the crossbar challenge because his effort would make it to the goal. It ok though he "gets stuck in". Whatever were paying him is to much in my opinion i DO think he is replaceable 10 years service or not i would have let him go after he rejected the first deal and got in a guy who can find a red and white shirt and might chip in with more than 1 goal a season.

Q a slating from many but its my opinion which i am entitled to. I am not a monty fan or blackwell fan i'd be more than happy if they had both left.

I'm not a davidpinder fan.

A YAWN for SBSP, a YAWN for Pinchy, and a YAWN for davidpinder. Get a grip, open your eyes and grow up.

I take it you are one of the people who cheers when his wins the ball, and then passes it straight to them? Or chases to a position he should have been in anyway just to give a stupid foul away and put us under more pressure?

But all is forgiven because he gives 110%.

Some people are clueless.

Every team - but us in particular - needs its Morgans and Montys. They're the guts, heart and spirit of the team.
Nice we've managed to keep hold of them.
But in reality it means sod all in the overall context of what's happening at the Lane.
