FORMER Sheffield United chairman Terry Robinson has joined Stoke City in a consultancy role.
His brief includes reviewing the Premier League club's youth system as officials at the Britannia Stadium look to increase the flow of talent from their Clayton Wood academy into Tony Pulis' first-team squad.
Robinson, who departed Bramall Lane in December, is a long-time friend and Football Association colleague of Stoke supremo Peter Coates.
Pulis said: "Peter has asked Terry to come in and have a look at the club from top to bottom. It will be mostly the youth development side. He's got lots of experience and will come forward and let us know what he thinks. I've known him for a long time and I know Peter has got a lot of respect for him. Even at Bournemouth and Gillingham, I've always had experienced people with me."
Robinson played an influential role in expanding United's overseas links during his stay in South Yorkshire. Indeed, he was appointed president of Ferencvaros when a company owned by Kevin McCabe, United's plc chairman and major shareholder, bought the Hungarian giants before severing his ties with Budapest following last year's boardroom reshuffle.
Stoke goalkeeper Steve Simonsen is expected to make his final appearance for United in Sunday's derby with Sheffield Wednesday. As The Star revealed earlier this week, manager Kevin Blackwell has asked Pulis to extend the former England under-21 international's loan to enable him to take part at Hillsborough. However, sources in Staffordshire report Simonsen is likely to return to Stoke immediately after the match if Blackwell's request is granted.
Paddy Kenny will be available to don the gloves against Swansea and Ipswich Town after serving a nine-month ban imposed following a positive drugs test during last term's Championship play-off semi-final with Preston. Mihkel Aksalu and Ian Bennett will also be hoping for a chance to impress.
