why do people feel the need to defend a bloke who earns more in a week than most people do in a year

Well said Super.

This string is truly hilarious in parts - we have not missed Monty one bit, he is a pathetic footballer devoid of any meaningful attributes. But, he has always got his bank account to look at and for that he gets my grudging respect.

If Doyle gets injured there are plenty of other options - I'd rather see Danny Wilson play.

really you think hes that bad, we would have torn up his contract if it was like that and he would never have won player of the season last year and doyle also makes just as many bad passes in my eyes occasionally he makes one god side ways pass across the half way line to macca and then he does the rest whist doyle is non existant but still gets credit for doing very little imo

Think you will find that SQuinny got POY last season.

I would have though that a "god side ways pass" might be something special.

Doyle does a hell of a lot more than you are seeing at the moment - he links the play when we are switching from one wing to the other, keeping the momentum going and stretching the game- Generally he plays it short to Macca and let's him dictate what play comes next. Against Brum he was crowded out and muscled out by some younger and fitter players. League 1 appears to be his level at this stage of his career.

Neither Monty nor Doyle are very verbal - something we lack greatly since Morgs got injured - I don't see any leaders out there this season - no one that can drag a team through a tough spell and make the difference. Monty adds nothing to the team at the moment cos we are playing a load of shit in the third division so he has no one to rat around or destroy - which is his strength.

Doyle and Macca are playing pretty well considering the opposition they have to play against. I am not sure how good they are as a pair when we come up against the more physical teams but Monty wouldn't be the answer for that sort of game either - heading ability is key for that style.

If we get promoted then I can see the whole midfield changing - maybe Macca will stay but he needs to up his game considerably (to compliment the undoubted class and talent he has) to become a decent Championship midfielder.

Simply speaking, you'd need someone with opposite talents to McDonald to dovetail with him in the Championship. If we use a simple rating system (this is very subjective!), I'd say that McDonald would get a 5/10 defensively and 8/10 offensively. Pair him with someone who was 8/10 defensively and 5/10 offensively and you'd have a good Championship pairing.

I'd say that Doyle was probably 6 and 4 on the same scale, with Monty about the same. Neither of them is good enough to be a decent foil for McDonald if we get promoted. However, finding someone who is good enough won't be easy. Or cheap.

What the fuck has money to do with defending someone against criticism, what a strange view.

watch out the grammar Nazis are about, but in all seriousness i agree that neither will be good enough if we go up but i have to disagree with you on heading being key as we have two fantastic headers of the
ball behind him and macca seems to head the ball well so i think were covered there but what im saying about physical sides is doyle cant get stuck in and doesn't fight for the ball in my opinion and in derbies
and big games like wednesday, huddersfield and charlton that would have been key and i personally think monty does a better job of it. but doyle's "amazing passing skill" as some people see it is nothing special
any player in any division can do what he does even bloody nyron noswothless. when i said player of the season i meant fans but im might be wrong i know he got player of the season from someone?

I think now's the time to reiterate that I love Monty like the brother I never had. Can't say much more than that really.

:)

strange view??.. held by most of the fans except for a few awkward 'gerritdahn field' types.. the strange view is that some people seem to feel sorry for him because of all of the people like me saying 'errm .. the emperor has no clothes on'.. the fact that i've seen people fighting in the westfield over this 'athlete' makes it even worse.. he is a truly devisive player.. some people see him for what he is.. a great athlete/bloke whatever but he can't play football .. and some people like to be awkward sods and say.. ooh but this.. ooh but that.. my wife can f**king type but it doesn't make her a software engineer.

Can't believe this has been suggested. Let's drop the midfielder and captain that has lead the team to 12 wins out the last 13 league games. United are playing their best football in years and K Mac and Doyle looks like the Platini and Giresse of the 3rd division. I despair that some Blades think it would be a good idea to upset things and put in splay foot. Absolutely no need to change things. Let Doyle keep supporting McDonald and we'll keep tearing teams apart. Regardless of how you rate Monty (at which I obviosuly do not) then Doyle desrves to be picked ahead of him on merit!

I love Monty, but at the moment there is no reason whatsoever to drop Doyle. Why would Wilson drop one of the two players anchoring the midfield? Why? Why would he change a combination that is working perfectly well for the great majority of the time?

because people like me and pinchy keep picking on him and it's not fair. he'd bleed for us and played in a great team ten years ago. Luckily DW is a little more pragmatic

So am I. Doyle is doing a good job. Leave him to carry on doing it would seem to be the best way forward.

Of course people are entitled to put their side of the debate but the OP's argument is completely untenable at present. It's pleasing to see that the overwhelming majority appreciate that.

Sure Wycombe are shite (and were never alright) but we were a good two levels ahead of them today. Another master class from K-Mac. Delighted to hear the song for Danny sung with genuine respect and even affection.

Let's have an udder win on Tuesday lads!
