Monty OR Doyle? You decide.....

SO if we HAD to keep one and play them all season, who would it be?

Personally, I would keep Doyle. Based on the fact that he will cost a lot less in wages, he isn't afraid to shoot, and I reckon is just about a better passer of a ball than Monty. (granted it isn't difficult)

but what does the SUFC public think.....

You'd have to see the wage packets. If I were to guess, I'd say Doyle is "bang for your buck" a better player (though we'd just be making do in the third division). It shouldn't be always about that, but given our financials I'd keep Doyle and strengthen elsewhere.

Monty has been terrific for us, but I don't think we can or should afford him anymore.

Easy choice for me. Doyle has less of the "headless chicken" attribute about him, breaks up play just as well as Montgomery but is actually capable of playing a decent pass and he likes to get forward and have a shot.

I only said "a decent pass", not several or regularly. I just think he's the better of the two as I think he's average as opposed to piss poor. Plus, if he has enough wild strikes at goal, one's bound to go in sooner or later and it'll be a beauty when it does!

Clearly! I just don't rate him. Having watched him closely due to the fact that he divides fans more than any other player seems to, I just think he's a poor footballer. I think Doyle's less poor.

Monty is the reason why all of the above were sacked/left? They all had the chance to drop and sell him, but they didn't. You may have to admit that, although you don't like him, Monty has managed to play professional football at a high level for over 10 years. Surely he can't have managed that without being able to do some things well.

He isn't implying that at all. He's saying that, as most of the aforementioned managers' respective performances with the club were poor, their judgement isn't necessarily right.

It really isn't a difficult concept to grasp and I thought he made the point quite clearly.

Warnock isn't shite (rubishing 7 promotions would be even dafter than this point). Wilson's (we're told) a purist. And yet again, they ALL continue to play him. But they're all wrong, and you're right. Really?

I am a Wilson fan but I strongly disagree with his present choices in central midfield. Maybe The Maestro has a 'must play' condition in his absurdly lucrative contract? Sounds unlikely but so does paying £14k a week to a non-footballer. I'm afraid DW is having to sort out the legacies of the numpties who preceded him [including your Golden Boy, Quickfix Micky and his Dinosaurs] before he can begin to fashion a team in his own style.

What is obvious that clubs are not clamouring to buy or take Monty off our hands
My opinion of Monty is that he is a very ordinary footballer who has made himself a living off the game through 100% effort - full stop nothing more nothing less
He is about at his level lower championship (Division Two) Division Three - never going to get any better
Cannot see anything in his game that would improve the Blades- Lets start again - If truth be known Doyle isn't that much better It's like debating which is the best seaside resort skegness or mablethorpe!

I think I'd stick with Doyle whilst in this league, but not sure either of them really suit the step up.

Monty has made a nice living off of being a pretty average player, as is the way of a lot of players right now. Doyle for me could have a lot more positive impact in this division and would be more likely to add to the goals for column. Monty is more of a threat to the goals against after some silly penalties and freekicks. If he performs better this season then the memories of last might be less strong and my opinions may change. But salary and last season's form taint it pretty badly for me.

Make's me chuckle the Monty debate going round and round and round in circles.
The facts show that he's played in the Premier league & Championship for a long time and been picked consistently during every season by numerous managers.
If he really wasn't good enough then this wouldn't have happened and he'd have been replaced a long time ago when earlier managers had money to spend.
But he's still at the heart of our team and deserves our support while whichever manager we have chooses to pick him like any other player in the squad.

So do I. I suspect Wilson knows how he wants the team to play but he also knows what the current squad are capable of. Robson made the mistake of sending XI players onto the pitch and just expecting them to create like Man United. The end result was a brand of confuse-ball worse than any hoofing I've seen.

As Wilson said the other night, he's OK with a non-footballing centre midfield so long as the fullbacks and wide men can compensate. But I'm sure that will slowly change.

Skegness is a lot bigger than Mablethorpe. It has a lot more rides in its pleasure beach and eptons fish and chips.
Mablethorpe however has a better Arnold Palmer the gift center on the corner and the dunes to the north well if your lucky with your metal detector you could find an unexploded bomb from the days when the RAF used to practice up there.
How do you compare the two?

Truth is Boo, both are mediocre as a seaside resort much the same as Monty and Doyle
Neither are what we want, but unfortunately we've got both!
As much as I admire your loyalty towards Monty he is a luxury we cannot afford - whatever he is being paid ( he has been classed as a high earner) is too much for this division and for his limited talent and I am sure that if we could get him off the books we could sign (and fund) a couple of players that would be very useful to the cause! But on the other hand Monty could hold up his hands, admit his part in last seasons disastrous performances and take a pay cut to help the cause but ................the only paycut I've heard about was Hendersons reported £9k per week pay cut to join Millwall? Perhaps it was compensated by a very large signing on fee --- or is that the cynic coming out!

Neither would be my answer but at gunpoint I'd choose Monty. At least I notice he's playing, albeit not very well some days!
