Truth is Boo, both are mediocre as a seaside resort much the same as Monty and Doyle
Neither are what we want, but unfortunately we've got both!
As much as I admire your loyalty towards Monty he is a luxury we cannot afford - whatever he is being paid ( he has been classed as a high earner) is too much for this division and for his limited talent and I am sure that if we could get him off the books we could sign (and fund) a couple of players that would be very useful to the cause! But on the other hand Monty could hold up his hands, admit his part in last seasons disastrous performances and take a pay cut to help the cause but ................the only paycut I've heard about was Hendersons reported £9k per week pay cut to join Millwall? Perhaps it was compensated by a very large signing on fee --- or is that the cynic coming out!

I heard a horrible rumour that we are STILL paying some of his wages, even though he is at Millwall.

Hope it's a load of balls, but knowing SUFC...........

What you talking about? get back on subject. Loyalty to Monty indeed!
When I was a kid we had a chalet in Mablethorpe. Spent many weekends during many summers there. If we were there all week on wednesday we went to skeggy to see the fireworks they used to put on. The chalet got sold. its still there and i pay a visit when in Mablethorpe just to remember the good family times. The last time i went to Mablethorpe was about 4 years ago. I do go to Skeggy more these days for day trips with my own family and was there on tuesday. having a laugh getting soaked by crashing waves wishing the sea was as warm as the Red Sea we've just come back of holiday from. Truth is it will probably be our last big holiday for a few years because we cannot afford it. So on the day trips to skeggy we will try to make the best of it and have a laugh till we can afford that little extra luxury again.

But Boo, you're missing the point
This year Red Sea and Skeggy to next year just Skeggy
Perhaps, just perhaps, you might be able to afford the Gower Penninsula, Ilfracombe, Bude, Bamburgh Castle, Lyme Regis etc etc not as expensive as the Red Sea but given the right conditions fabulous places to visit and a notch above Skeggy!

Them places for day trips seem a long way and a cottage or chalet surley would be more expensive than Skeggy Mablethorpe or even Sutton on Sea?

Get yourself off to either Bamburgh or Alnwick in the North East Boo
Fantastic Beaches, Miles and Miles of them, Excellent Accomodation at cheapo prices
Alternatively, Whitby and Robins Hood Bay was there two weeks ago far better than the Lincolnshire coast!

Monty has been an excellent player for us, done exactly what has been required of him and often, been given additional responsibility to "do a job" when others around him haven't exactly excelled...

Britton was a prime example. He played the deep role, taking the ball off the defenders to prevent the hoof, doing the simple things right, often had a half decent game. But he was completely ineffective and in such a deep role was very weak defensively.

We had nobody else to play the attacking midfielder role and because Britton was so weak defensively, we had to play Monty further forward, attacking is not Monty's strong point, but he went in and did the job, even with his suspect shooting.

I do think the time has come for Monty to move on now, he ought to be at a better level than this, his wages are too restrictive and of course if he goes then perhaps people will start to see that we actually miss him

If we keep him though, then thats great!

...if your lucky... you could find an unexploded bomb ... QUOTE]

Sounds like Monty. He might explode at any time. There have been games in the last couple of seasons where we were so dull that the only entertainment I got from a match was watching Monty the unexploded bomb.

Robin Hoods bay, went there for the first time last year - it might have coincided with Mccalister signing. Untouched but looking classy was my impression of Robin hoods bay. Keep saying we'll have to have another better look but something always seems to get in the way.
Did work in Weston Supermare for a couple of days last year. The whole place was being done up - a little like an injured midfielder on a treatment table. The guy I worked with has been back and says it looks great in parts but there are odd bits that you think 'what they done that for'.

Interesting though that Britton was seen as Swansea's anchorman - which probably tells us a lot about how far we've moved from being a true "footballing" side.

Would rather have monty that doyle. BUT I would expect Monty to be on higher wages so will probably be the one to go.

Monty is a lot better than doyle, Monty is underestimated, bet you would'nt get Monty on a free. even le ds did'nt want doyle.

Realistically Guys, you wouldn't pick either of them!

I'm all for getting shut of both no-hopers and getting a proper footballer in midfield that can tackle without giving the ball away, pass the ball to a teamate, look to build an attack, and score between 7-10 goals per season

Neither of them is the answer!

Can't deny that he does alright for Swansea. He just looked weak for us when he didn't have the ball and just seemed like he couldn't even be bothered to get forward.

In a nutshell. The Ploddyphiles have devised a special job description for The Maestro. It exempts him from the ordinary and basic skills of any midfielder. In short, if he can't do it - no problem, it's not his job!

What a fantastic deal. It could spread to other sports. "What's up Sergio? Can't putt to save your life?" Never mind mate. Give putting a miss - just keep whacking it 300 yards down the fairway. No, I'm afraid you won't win anything but you'll be doing your job!"

"Now then Ronnie - you've lost the ability to pot colours? Oh dear! Never mind, just keep sinking those reds. You'll lose every match of course but that's snooker."

The truth is that there are plenty of players who can do what midfielders are supposed to do. Attack and defend; Destroy and create. We know that because we've seen them by the dozen. Unheralded; Not even famous in their own street but they have our local hero chasing shadows week in; week-out.

Great job if you can get it. Well done Nick, you've really protected the back four well in the last few seasons and your breaking-up play is a delight to behold. Don't forget to pick up that barrow-full of cash on your way out.

Meanwhile a proper footballer sits waiting for a contract; another sits on the bench as The Maestro and Mrs Doyle confirm their inadequacies week by week by week...

Will no-one rid us of these tanglefooted pratts?

Brilliant, sensational posting Pinch.

Gary Lineker was a great tackler wasn't he ,Bobby Moore a top scorer ,Peter Schmeical used to go flying down the wings before crossing it and Alan Woodward was great at winning headers.
Poor post from me ,not a 'clever' nickname in sight.

Without reading pinchy's post, I can take it from your response that he's pulling down the club or one of its' players. Amusingly pathetic it is now, Mic.

OK - read it now.

At about the seventh attempt we've found a manager you approve of, yet sadly once again he can't spot what you can. And yet they drive the flash cars and you flip the burgers*. Hmmm.

*Insert any occupation that pays in a year what a manager gets paid in a week or month.

Yes, a seriously poor post Sitters.

I'll sit on the "Monty knocker" side of the fence on this one....

If he's that good, someone would have come in for him. We've been a selling club for decades now, and recently most of our talent has been sold down the river.

How long has our Nick been at the club, 10 / 11 years now is it??

Thas a very good post well thought out and good to point out the pitfalls in some peoples arguments.

Gary Lineker was a great tackler wasn't he ,Bobby Moore a top scorer ,Peter Schmeical used to go flying down the wings before crossing it and Alan Woodward was great at winning headers.

I see what you did there, but I don't see how it helps an argument on behalf of Monty

Lineker was a great goalscorer
Schmeichel was a great keeper
Woody was a great winger
Moore was a great defender

What is Monty great, or even good at? FYI, knocking people over from behind and conceding penalties and free kicks is not a useful skill, the last time I checked.

If he's that good, someone would have come in for him. We've been a selling club for decades now, and recently most of our talent has been sold down the river.

This is the killer point. If he was worth anything, we wouldn't have him.

It's widely thought that Monty is 'good at stopping the opposition from playing'. He has done the job well enough over the years and put in some magnificent man marking performances. That's fine up to a point but the emphasis, particularly in this division, should be on trying to beat the opposition, not concentrating on stopping them from playing. Yes, most successful teams have a 'holding midfielder' but the key to that role is that they rarely waste a pass. If you don't have a 85-90% pass success rate and are not contributing elsewhere by either creating or scoring goals then the value, or lack of, is there for all to see.

If he is to stay, as I've said before, I'd like to see him at RB and if that meant Lowton moving into midfield then all well and good as I think he'd do well there.

Money wise we would be better off keeping Doyle but he isnt fit to lace Montys boots.(Says it all)

If you don't have a ball winner you don't have the ball ,not just basic football sense ,basic sense. The merits of Montgomery can be argued all day but you do need that kind of player in a succesful team. Personally I think Montgomery should go because his style is bizzarly suited to a higher level with a decent partner who can play ,but if no one comes in for him we surely have to play a player who is taking aa good percentage of our club salary available.I don't take any notice of the replies from some of our esteemed heroes on here who just seek attention and have zero substance to add to a subject.

Zero substance? I think Monty being a pathetic burden on the team as we slump to 3rd tier is enough substance, but I forget, it aint his job. His style is suited to the dark ages. Maybe you don't notrice but every single side, and Bfrebntofrd will be the same, will have better midfielders than we do, players who can do a bit fo everything, include tackle and help the defence out.

He aint a good ball winner, that's the argument Sitters, he fouls, barges inti people like an Aussie rules player and gives penalties and possession away.

Doyle for Ollessendro

For me I would choose Doyle ahead of Monty and move Monty on (if possible). There are two main reasons for this:

- Doyle is a better footballer
- Monty's wages

I just believe that Monty's time is up. In a time that we are looking to change our style and play some football, then he does not fit in with the team. That is not to mention he is on an unsustainable salary. Others on big salaries (e.g. Quinn and Cressy - but maybe not Evans) will win games. Monty will not.

I actually feel that Doyle has been tarred by the Adams and Collins brush. I do not think Doyle has performed that badly for United. Last week he played similarly to Monty (i.e. solid and did a reasonable job of getting his foot in) but his distribution is so much better. We've seen from pre season games that he can get forward and shoot too. He played almost 40 games in Leeds promotion winning season from this division. Basically I think he can do as good (possibly better) as (than) Monty for cheaper, at this level. I think in a sinking ship Doyle was unfairly tarnished last season. Now I am not saying he is fantastic, far from it, but think he can do a job.

Personally I would like to see a combo of McAllister, Williamson and Harriot in centre mid. I would potentially use Doyle and Monty would be nowhere near the team.
