Monty On His Way

Good point, in fact I'd probably rest him for that one and save him for some more taxing opposition.

Williamson's had an awful lot of rest this season and is about to have some more.
I'd guess he's played about 10 or 12 games?

As an aside, I do accept he's injured more than he should be, but so are a few of our players and a lot of the time it's through "non-impact" injuries IE muscle pulls, strains etc. New players always say how intense the training is at the Lane. Could this be contributing to the extensive injury list?

Linked with clubs currently in the premiership, surely not?! I was mocked for saying so before.

He has the same agent as Matt Killgallon by the way ;)

I think this is a measure of how overpaid we've made some of our players. I'm a Monty fan, but I bet if people knew how much we were paying him, they'd view it differently.

The size of our wage bill in no way reflects the quality of our squad. That inevitably means some big disappointments at wage negotiation time.

"Linked" is usually as far as it gets. We shall see though.

The fact that the "purchasing" club usually ends the negotiations with "ha ha ha, only kidding"?

No, more along the lines of certain people not being able to diagnose a broken foot.

Keenzy where are you?

Who, What, Where, Why, When?!?!?!?!

Some midfield next season,
Quinn who only can use 1 foot, and harper doing his saturday night fever impression every week.

Williamson is just a crock, cant seem to keep fit.

The fact is if we can't even afford to hang on to Nick Montgomery, then we are well and truly fucked. He is to my mind a decent Championship player at best.

Get ready for bringing a joblot of dross and shit from League 1 and lower next season similar to Andy Taylor.

It's reprofiling, its the future and its fucking shite

Out of interest what exactly is a "big pile of Bollocks"

Thought you'd have had a few pics?

I used to suffer from premature exhiliration but I've learned, over the years, not to peak too soon.

This could all go horribly wrong and he might stay. The stellar galaxy of top clubs interested in The Maestro could realise they have enough players who can't control or pass a ball and whose shooting requires that air traffic control be notified before every game.

So I'll be patient but at least the return of proper football to BDTBL has taken a faltering step closer.

Blacko and Elpiton: just get into that stretch limo with Monty will you. Anywhere you like - money no object.

My thoughts entirely.

United have obviously offered him a contract worth tuppence every 6 months as part of the reprofiling. Cue Monty saying "get lost" and his agent releasing the news to the press with an intimation that he is leaving. Monty/the agent then counts on fans' uproar leading to pressure on the club leading to an improved offer which Monty than accepts.

I think that a much more likely scenario than him actually leaving.

Maybe it is a scaled down version of what is happening at Anfield with Carragher.

I think the likes of Monty et al will have to accept that if they want to remain they'll probably have to take some sort of deduction in wages but I hope players like Monty & Morgan aren't being taken advantage of by the club in the hope that they'll accept overly low wages due to their loyalty.

I'd be gutted if Monty left for the reasons Raul outlined.

If we're not careful we're going to see 11 souless Jonny Randomers rattling around infront of 17,000 in the coming years.

.

We have a wage bill of about £15M per year and we're shite. I'm struggling to see how it's the players who are being taken advantage of.

How sad...............not the news that the Useless One may actually piss off at last, but so very sad that there's a mass tear letting by some of you. FFS let's be honest, the so called footballer we're talking about here is no better now than he was when he was a talentless workhorse at 17 years old. (Hmm, sounded a bit like Wearside Jack there ) Only difference now is that he's a bit bulkier and maybe a bit fitter, other than that he's still the headless chicken who'll run all day but who still can't control a football. If you're all going to be upset over losing him and his like then the club has no future, you're all guilty of lowering your aspirations so much that you want a team full of poor tacklers, a team full of aimless runners, and a team full of nothing but footballing retards.

Hope this isn't another false dawn, hope him and Blackwell ship out on the same bus as that way we might get a manager in who'll play a passing game, and a player to replace him who's capable of passing a football whether he's a 15 year old trialist or a 55 year old has been, he can't be any worse.

All the bollocks about him not leaving before because he'd broken his little pinkie? Laugh my tits off at that one. If he was that sought after they'd have come back in for him, they didn't, what a lucky escape they had. No one's been serious about buying him the whole time he's played for us, thus his so called loyalty. It's easy to be loyal when there's only one set of mugs who'll employ you

Let's hope he does go, and let's hope he goes to one of the 3 giants mentioned, I think it's fair to say that none of those clubs are known for their footballing prowess, and none of them are exactly setting the football world alight so no "bon voyage" from me, just a good riddance to bad rubbish. Let's hope for once the rumours are true because there's very few things that I truly detest, but I've detested every single second I've spent watching you.

Apps, if this is a joke I'll find you and hurt you, Jim knows where you live ;)

I take it in the recent Monty poll you were in the 12.24% Minority who voted we should sell him ?
An aside to the Monty thing,in that poll 79.75% said keep him 8.02% said use him as a sub and 12.24% said sell him. Now I am a little tipsy I admit :drunk: but doesn't the total for the poll add up to 100.01% ?

Thats McCabe adding his bit on

Big Mart will be happy, but I'd view Monty as a big loss, and as said above I think it's a huge sign of what's happened to morale and team spirit if someone that's always seemed happy at the Lane, and suggested he doesn't want to go anywhere else, is deciding not to extend his contract.

I don't think it is anything of the sort. The club are trying to impose a realistic wage structure on the players and he doesn't like it, so he's off. Nothing to do with spirit, loyalty, soul or any of the other emotional clap trap that we fans invest in our club just £ S d full stop.

Not sure how true that is.

If we seriously look at losing monty in the current situation I'm absolutely gutted. One of the only players left at the club that I genuinely feel gives their all every game whether it's good enough or not.

Looking back at players who we've paid decent money to over the last 3 years at this level I'd sooner have him than any of the below:

Kyel Reid
Leigh Bromby
Andy Taylor
Ched Evans
Ryan France
Glen Little
Jordan Stewart
Richard Cresswell
James Harper
Brian Howard
David Carney
Andrew Davies
Darius Henderson
Justin Haber
Chris Lucketti
Geoff Horsfield
Matthew Spring
Anthony Stokes
Arturo Lupoli
Craig Beattie
John O'Toole
Keith Gillespie
Danny Webber
Gary Speed
Mikele Leigertwood
Alan Wright
Alan Quinn
Phil Bardsley
Lee Martin
Goran Slavkovski
John Halls
Mamadou Seck
Li Tie
Gary Naysmith
Nyron Nosworthy
Ian Bennett
Stephen Quinn
Jonathan Fortune

I don't like to offer abuse and this is probably my first time in 186 posts but I can't help it; I wish those that offer him abuse and those that gain great enjoyment at the thought of us being without him would fuck off.

Fuck me we've had some shit in.

I'd totally forgot about slavkovski - "The new ibrahimovic", currently tearing it up for Bochum's reserve team....

We're not "looking at losing Monty". We can't meet his wage demands. I don't understand how people can criticise the club so heavily for not meeting his demands, when they've absolutely no idea what those demands are.

How much should we pay him? £1M per year? £2M?

And by the way, we're already £50M in debt.

Nope, we should offer him what we can afford and is fair within our pay structure. If he says no ta, chooses to see out his contract and take his chances elsewhere, then fine.

To me it's sad to him go, but nobody is doing anything wrong here.

I'd like to think Monty was more than your everyday footballer who plays for a dozen clubs and says the same thing everytime he moves whilst feeling no connetion to the club he's at.

He's been here since he was 16, he's constantly stated that he loves the club. I'm sure he'd love to have his current deal extended for as long as he could, thing is do we know he's getting offered anything near his current deal? or is he being offered less, turning it down, so the club then tells fans that we will offer him an 'improved' offer, which is still wank, then release a statement saying he rejected 2 contracts leaving him to get vilified by the fans, more so than usual, while twisting it to the point of view that Monty held the club to ransom and his leaving wasnt up to the club.

I know for a fact Leeds are very interested should/when they come into the CCC in Monty, and with Monty's love for Leeds, I wouldn't rule it out. If memory serves me right, Michael Doyle of Coventry (?) is their holding midfielder, while either Howson or Kilkenny (one of the most technically gifted players I've seen outside of the Premiership, would love to have him here) pulls the strings with the football at their feet. Doyle is on loan, and his loan contract ends this season, he wants to stay on, but is a weak link for Leeds in the centre. The wage they'll save from Beckford leaving frees up Monty's move up the road to Leeds.

Hope it's not true, but I'd not bet against it.

I appreciate this but my point is that we both currently have and have had in the last few years plenty of players that have earnt a decent crust from us without being good enough. I'd be disappointed if we continued along the same lines of paying players like France, Taylor, Stewart, etc. etc. good money whilst letting monty go over a few grand a week. It's time to clear out the crap in our squad not the core.
