Monty On His Way

Montgomery, the longest serving player at Bramall Lane, is wanted by a string of clubs including Burnley, Bolton Wanderers, and Middlesbrough.

Not bad for a player who cant tackle, pass or shoot

Must dash - got to go and renew my season ticket.

Will be very interesting to see how he does elsewhere. Like him for obvious reasons but totally fed up watching his almost unbelievable lack of ability on the ball.

The biggest sign yet of the collapse of morale, finances and vision at the Lane.
Big, big problems ahead in the summer - and a clear white flag from United on the remainder of this season.

Another player, like Jags or Tonge, who I have watched for years and feel an attachment to is off to be replaced by some loanee from Blackburn or Fulham. Awesome.

were in major trouble veryday i seem to be losing more and more passion and commitment to going to watch united, if it werent for the fact that i have a season ticket i wouldnt be going again, we as fans deserve to know whats going on but we get left in the cold, only time we here anything on the website is when there trying to sell something or its f***ing blackwell feeling sorry for himself with his excuses and lies.

Big Mart will be happy, but I'd view Monty as a big loss, and as said above I think it's a huge sign of what's happened to morale and team spirit if someone that's always seemed happy at the Lane, and suggested he doesn't want to go anywhere else, is deciding not to extend his contract.

End of an era. If Morgan cannot agree terms either then I no longer see one player on the pitch who cares as much as I do. The lost sheep that is Stephen Quinn perhaps?

That's not much to hang your hopes on is it?

:(

Unless we're replacing him with Mascherano or de Jong then it's a big problem. We've seen how poor we are without him breaking up the opposition play. To be fair we've been pretty poor with him in the team recently, but that isn't his fault and I shudder to think how bad it would've been without him!

He'll be wanting too much money. Under no circumstances can we have Monty as a top earner. Nowt to do with team spirit for me. You could have worse team spirit in world but he'd sign if he was offered what he wanted.

THERE IS A GOD!

The only news that could come out of BDTBL that would make me any happier is Blackwell resigning/being sacked/leaving by mutual consent, (delete as applicable).

Part one of the 3-phase mission is complete, Monty gone, (or going) only Blackwell and Henderson to go now....

This has all been said a million times, perhaps best summed up by the poster who said he is always breaking up opposition play because he has just given the ball away to them.

I think he's had a poor season, responsible for plenty of opposition goals, and time for a change in the middle of the park.

Burnley can't tackle, Bolton can't pass and Boro can't shoot.

Its one of the problems I have at the mo. There used to be a solid core of players you felt a connection with, you felt invested in them. How are you supposed to feel that with Nosworthy, Kallio, Bartley, Bunn etc?

Believe it when I see it. Part of me thinks he might be playing hardball over the contract.

Only kind of ball playing he'll ever do if so.

Sort of with Walth on this one. I've never, ever seen what some people see in him but I've never ever seen what the opposite camp see either. If he was a sauce, he'd be bechamel.

It's the significance of it, rather than the actual player , that concerns me most. If there's a new broom on it's way sweeping clean then fair enough, but if we end up with someone elses reject on loan for a season it's another nail in the coffin.

It's not often I'm in complete agreement with you...

Warnock used to say that Tonge/Jags/Monty was the soul of the team. I fear we're about to find out how true that statement was.

I keep hoping we've reached ground zero, but it seems there's still some way to travel before we actually start building again. :(

I think you're wrong. :)

He will go to Leeds when they go up no doubt.
All the Monty haters will get to see how good he is when you're up against him in another team.
Monty would get in any team in this division and half a dozen in the premier league. Unless Pinchy was managing them that is

My thoughts entirely.

United have obviously offered him a contract worth tuppence every 6 months as part of the reprofiling. Cue Monty saying "get lost" and his agent releasing the news to the press with an intimation that he is leaving. Monty/the agent then counts on fans' uproar leading to pressure on the club leading to an improved offer which Monty than accepts.

I think that a much more likely scenario than him actually leaving.

That without doubt is the biggest pile of bollocks I have ever read on this site.

Monty is like global capitalism,

Everyone just about agrees it's a terrible way of doing something.

But when it comes to alternative solutions everyone bottles it.

Everyone can agree on his faults. Everyone agrees about the (limited) benefits he brings the team.

But to base your team's footballing philosophy on him is stupefyingly naive. In fact it's worse, it's pure bad faith.

The team will not tank if he goes, nor will he influence the fortunes of another club in any meaningful way.

The 'soul' of that group of young players died a long time ago.

Couldn't agree more. I look forward to williamson and anybody else we care to pair with him, Quinny included, taking the piss out of Monty next season.

It's looking like I'll be renewing afterall.

How many games has he or will he be fit for?
