Monty had a poor game today and did his contract negotiations no favours. Some midfielders, as they get older, can adapt to a more holding, playmaking anchor role. Monty's game is purely based on superior fitness and work rate, and I doubt that he can adapt like for example McCall did. As he's getting close to 30 and seems to get slightly more injury prone with age, we must make sure we don't make an expensive mistake by offering him a very good and long contract.

If Blackwell is still determined to play him, maybe a one year contract extension (on reduced terms obviously, we are still "reprofiling" I assume) would make sense at this stage.
