Our fanbase ( or around 50% of them ) would never have the patience to allow it to evolve and work. Remember after Southend 0-3 that Tuesday night people on here going into meltdown to get rid of Wilder. Probably th closest was Spackman who had not managed before but in his favour he did have resources and used them well -then had them taken away
Spackman had a fortune to spend but he did well, until as you say the board started selling everyone.

I just think for a club of our size I want a manager who's won promotion, kept a team up, etc and managed several hundred games because you can get managers who do well for a season or two but they've just landed lucky with a huge budget.

For example, I'd like to see how Arteta would do at Preston with nothing. I bet he'd be crap for starters! I'm not saying he's the example of an inexperienced manager but I'm still not sure on him. The manager at Bournemouth, now there's a manager who in my opinion has proved he's decent. I would be surprised if he doesn't move on soon. He's better than Bournemouth.

But again Bournemouth have spent much more than us and spent wisely. Arteta is manager of a massive club with different expectations and was also almost hounded out in his first 18 months - he built a team in his vision and had the resources to do that but again he spent wisely. If he could do it at Preston is relative but I wouldn't be surprised if he got the present Preston squad close to or in the top six in the Championship which would be deemed as success.
I just do not think we have a short medium or long term plan or project ( as such) we seem to be constantly reactive never proactive. We were told when Hecky took over it was about nurturing youth and here we are 18 months later looking like we will be blooding a lot of kids yet its likely the most gifted Ollie (at this time) could be sold.
And I think we can all work out how that money would be spent on expensive loans etc
A club our size and with the potential foot flow seems to be run like a league 1 club but putting that into perspective our Owner is the poorest in the division, now that Rotherhams gone.

Kiss the badge, bladey bladeyness.
Any ex blade legend some of our fans would have in charge of us immediately. I remember people always wanted Keith Edward’s in charge because he spoke sense in some games on football manager, the next one will be Billy Sharp.

If like Wilder did the first time he ends up proving himself to be a good manager elsewhere then of course you’d welcome him back, but nowadays fans hears a name they like ‘Rooney, Gerrard, Lampard’ and automatically presume they’ll be great managers of the club they played for.

I remember a few demanding Keith be given the chance after one of his fiery sermons having a go at Blackwell.

Its a good point - if you look at ex club player turned manager, expectation tends to be too much and ultimately they fail, some have worked but generally are the exception

Shearer - Newcastle
Scott Parker - Fulham
Lampard - Chelsea
Tim Sherwood - Spurs
Mark Hughes - Blackburn
Solskjaer - Man U
Southgate - Boro
Adams - us

Cant see the likes or Rooney or Gerrard managing back at their club, poss Rooney/Everton if they end up in EFL

Bloody hell Micky Adams.

I’d successfully repressed that memory until now.

Don’t think there was any expectation when he came in though, was a busted flush by the time he rocked up here.

Yes there was
the "Adams will get us fired up" (based on nothing more than him being a blade) comments in posts still send shudders down my back.

Monty seems a decent down to earth guy. GLTTL, I hope this move goes well.

I hope the Hibs experience didn’t scar him and he’s able to get back into frontline management. He did very well in Oz and looked to have a got a good career in front of him.

“Now then Son lad, if your first touch gets worse then you’ll be able to slide tackle with every 2nd touch you have”

Seems Hibs wanted a long term plan with the added bonus of immediate short term results whilst making cuts to the squad and bringing the age down, plus playing attractive football to boot.

Looking to have their cake and eat it and keep the money for the cake as well!

Sounds like he had little chance there.

Landed on his feet. It will be a great experience for him there and he’ll be able to learn and then in future take the opportunity of being a no 1 once more.

Always liked Monty.

An average player who's managed to transfer his attitude , tenacity , enthusiasm and energy into his coaching career.
A guy who's absolutely made the best of everything he processes and a great example of what can be achieved.
Well done Monty 👏

Wasn’t he wanted by PL clubs when he came through in like 2000/2001? Or was that a fever dream.
