Or with just a few years ago, or with any time in our history...

All I know is, in my lifetime, we've never been able to sign players with the class/careers of Gary Speed or even Ugo... despite their advanced years.

Gordon Cowans, Paul Mcgrath and that's when we did'nt have a pot to piss in

Never in a million years could we dream of signing someone of the likes of James Beattie, splashing the money and wages we did.
A deal financed by the sale of Jags you know it as well as anyone else.

We'd have a job turning £2.5mil down for ANYONE.
If we have turned it down then it is only because we have sod all else to put in at centre back

Thats what its all about now, money, all the big clubs taking any talent in the lower leagues/reserves/youth teams before they have a chance to shine lower down.

Still, its nice to know we've already decided how the rest of the season will go, will save me a fortune on tickets and travel not going to the away games we've already lost embarassingly! Perhaps you've got next April's lottery numbers for me too?
Such a razor sharp wit

Foxy

Maybe just maybe it was the money or lack of AMBITION ?
and not the 170 miles.

Think about it....there is always an excuse with the Blades.

He turned down Forest, saying that he wanted to stay in London.

Why we would he go an extra 40 miles when he wouldn't even go there?

Both very good players at the time. Bucked the norm both before and since.

Gary Speed and Ugo can still run however, Mcgrath couldn't even train his knee was that bad.

Would this be a player we held on to for a long time after premiership clubs started to approach for him? A player we had no real choice in selling. A player who cost us what? was he a deadline day supersigning? Think he must have been.... as they are the only players who can make a difference. ;)

We've still not been able to attract anyone of his calibre for the majority of my lifetime.

Is this like we only beat QPR because they are crap? or Blackwell only hasn't signed anyone because we have no ambition and he likes to insult the fans intelligence?

Another example, Kabba wanted to go back south for family reasons, wonder who he's playing for now mmmmmmmmmmm is Blackpool down south ??

We also wanted rid because he was cack and trying to hold the club to ransom. Or was it the biggest mistake we ever made as a selling club?

How is it a Blades excuse when the player himself has stated this FACT numurous times?

Still you are right, players thoughts and wants mean nothing in this game... Look at Berbatov... He wanted to join Man U and did everything to try and get there, but Spurs still managed to keep hold of him and sell him on their terms to Manchester City..... Oh... Hang on a minute!

Please tell me how a players decision after they have left us is anything to do with how we conduct business.

Keep on muddying the waters foxy if it keep you happy Jags paid for Beattie and you know it deep down.

Not sure where in my post I said it didn't, or what relevance it has to us being a selling club to be honest.

Surely a selling club would keep the money? not shell out on a premiership striker on high wages?

Apologies if more opinion and fact on the blades dealings "muddies the waters", I guess if we leave the whole Beattie thing out it'd suit the arguement more yeah? so lets rewrite history and just say we sold Jags!

Well by that logic Beattie cost us nothing...

It was basically a swap deal that involved £4m which went one way and then straight back so the basic money exchanged was £0.00. How much did Jags cost us in transfers fees to bring him in? £0.00. So in theory Beattie has cost us bugger all. So we have signed a capped England player with the potential to still play for England for a technical fee of 0p? Can't really complain about that if we're honest :)

Now your just spouting bollox. Jags had a release clause in his contract meaning that we had very little option in selling him. Ok you could class Beattie in and Jags out cancelled each other out but one hardly paid for the other.

Easy isn't it. No muddying of waters needed

Whatever lads, at the end of the day last summer we made around £3m profit in transfer dealings, this summer are we in profit again or have we shelled out shit loads of cash as someone inferred when mentioning Beattie ? Can someone please enlighten me ?????

night all.

If that question made sense then yes, I probably could.

Simple innit we are a selling club, Tonge gone now no replacement.

Oh aye, £2m for Henderson really suggests that we like to sell :)

Money isn't everything with transfers. We got Sun Jihai on a free and I personally think he is a far better player than Tonge will ever be. Granted it is in a different position but we could sign another player on a free or loan 'til the end of the season (who could be better than Tongue) and we'll be £2m up in profit.

Forgetting the loans and the frees

Out
Hulse 1.75 mil ish
Armstrong - Rise to 800k
Shelton - 1 mi
=3.55 million

In
Hendo - 2 mil
Cotts - 1.5ish
=3.5 million

Yer reyt, thas been ripped off by 50 grand, our terry will get some reyt pies wi that

'our terry' must be feeling really hungry !!!............or was it we tried to keep Tonge but the lad wanted to go. AMBITION MY ARSE !

Wait for the excuses.

Will it be the same owd chestnuts ?

Odds on : We tried for one or two but for one reason or another.

The lad didn't like Sheffield.

We not buying just for the sake of it.

and Blackies new un.... we are going to spend big.......

:D:cry2: same owd.........................

I'll do what I think is best for the forum thank you very much.

If you don't like the way we do things here, or perhaps take offence at the opinions of some of our posters, then I know you have plenty of log-ins elsewhere.

Back on topic?

Topic? What topic?

Summat about whinging and everyone who disagrees with what anyone else says calling them twats... I think it's long past being a sensible and reasoned discussion about our transfer market dealings :)

I'm coming in on page eighteen, having deliberately not read pages six to seventeen, but I can hazard a guess at what they said.

"No ambition, tossers, twats, Howard, Tonge, Our Terry, Our Gert, creative midfielder, lied to" and so on.

Did I miss anything out?

So BB has been slagging tonge off for playing cack and now he's complaining that we are a selling club for selling him?
