Yes, Kenworthy free kick early doors. It was an early season match. Brilliant sunshine. Rubble all over the crappy away end behind the goal and pelted with stones by Wigan's mob on the side terrace. I wasn't comfortable dodging stones. One lad in a Blades shirt stood behind me was led away streaming in blood. I was wondering where are our lot? Then Kenworthy scored and they were all on Wigan's side terrace where it all kicked off as they celebrated our goal. Fans running across the pitch from our end to join in the fighting. They were led off into the away end and I noticed Mitch chief among them! That set the pattern for the rest of the season!
we had fantastic away followings back in the day peterborough on a wednesday night 82 with 8k blades there fractions of that sort of following these days for away games 🤔⚔️

Top of the table clash when football was much cheaper v Bristol City away whilst in the bottom half of the table with debates over CW and unhappiness with the owners going on.

You are talking about at least a £100 day. Ticket transport beverages all add up
Has nobody told him there is a cost of living crisis

When the match was underway there were Blades fans climbing over the walls onto the open terrace.
I couldn't remember there being that many there?

I remember that. The open side terrace was full of Peterborough fans. You could see the lamposts moving as Blades fans used them to climb up the outside wall. Took around 7,000 to Peterborough unless you're mixing games up? It was a lifetime ago!

Didn't need a ticket. Just turn up, pay cash at the gate. Not many games were all ticket. Only remember needing one for the league games against Pigs. Great atmosphere at that Peterborough game and the final home game at the Lane. Won both fixtures 4.0.

I remember seeing the diamond Pringle jumpers appearing on the top of the wall 😆

I was just unaware of the numbers on the day.

When I heard on Friday I didn’t know who he was by name but as soon as I saw a photo I instantly recognised him. A lot of the old faces are now old men in their own right, and most of them are daft as a brush.

Our lasses old man is an old Wednesday boy. He is in his early 70s and is still crackers. He didn’t go to the match and he came out for a drink with us. And he was talking about Mitch and some of the old days and stunts they all used to get up to.

Most of the old ones are still a bit bonkers, it’s obvious they’ve all been out and lived life in their own terms, and been and had a devil may care attitude, and love telling the stories.

I'm sure every generation says the same, but honestly I wouldn't swap my 60/70s dragged up on a council estate upbringing for anything. Everybody was in the same boat, we had nowt but we didn't know any different so just got on with life.

In the early/mid 70s I was just a young teenager. Standing at the back of the Shoreham was something we just did. Shit scared half the time, but stood our ground as best we could. I was too young/small to hold my own, but big enough to get a slap. We just accepted it as being part of the adventure. Walking down Shoreham Street to the old Midland Station after the match was adrenaline on acid. Scared shitless half the time, but hooked on it like a junkie.

'Daft as a brush' - think that describes the majority of footy fans originating from that era. Crazy, but fantastic days.

yes can relate to all that youve said there snake came through the same era there was something special about those days on the shoreham in the 60s and 70s packed in at the top of the kop often with opposing fans only seperated from us by police at either edge of the 2 groups and 10 yards of no man's land early 70s especially manic with battles against newcastle chelsea and wednesday only leeds (once 74 ) and man utd ( every time ) took the shoreham oh and wednesday once in county cup game when none of our lot turned up never in league or cup games despite the pigs claims all of this is in ronnie sharp's 2 brilliant books about being a united fan in the old days utb fto ⚔️⚔️⚔️
