Last season wasn't one of our best but at least there were some memorable highlights. I was put in mind of worst times when searching through some old photos. Unfortunately, I am not technologically gifted as to share this particular image with you but it was a photo of me, head bowed with black arm band stood next to the front page of the Green Un which bore the stark headline Blades Down. In those days a selfie involved putting your camera on a tripod and using the self timer function.
The season in question is of course 1980-81. The game I remember most as awful was not the last fateful debacle against Walsall but a game just after Xmas against Gillingham. Lost 1-0, Ryan missed a penalty for the second week running, cold wet and windy with a cloud approx 8-9000. Awful.
I am sure there must be equally shite performances that will make us all feel things aren't so bad now. Well maybe not.

Gillingham away under Warnock. Andy Morrison played (debut), Bullock probably played too. Not sure if it was the game where he threatened to select Asaba. Think Iffy scored at least three for them.

Late April 1988. I was one week overdue on my second pregnancy and I looked and felt like a beached whale. I was hoping for an exciting game, something with which to perhaps put me into labour. .... But no.........the score was 0-0, can't remember the team and I had to wait another week for my lad to be born.

Not any more, we got Southend to look forward to. I certainly intend to walk the length of the pier.

Very unhappy with the generalisation regarding The Smiths.

The 0-0 draw must be the home game against WBA?

abject shite

Newport away , midweek 5 hours through traffic to get there to lose 4-0

Port Vale away boxing day they were bottom we were top ,lost 2-0 , had we been horses would have been dope tested as we never broke out of a jog

Altrincham cup replay lost 3-0 should have been 8 ,

lowest point ever,,,,,,,,,,,losing 1-0 at Stockport in div 4 after they fouled our keeper, on a monday night after we had lost at Hull on the saturday, getting out of that division looked far off that night

At least you finally got the result you was looking for:)

I've no idea....wiped that game straight from my memory.....
Although to be fair Silent, it wasn't the first nor will it be the last game where I've thought "what am I doing here? "

Yes, I hope I can get to Southend. They're still at their old stadium aren't they?

When do the fixtures come out? :-)

Remember all of those... kin'ell... "abject" is an abuse of the term "abject"...

Remember it getting very tasty outside the main stand at Port Vale after that game (had a girlfriend with me, parents had already got out of the ground and got to the car, I'd gone for a "visit" and Julie and I got trapped amongst a small group of Blades who couldn't get past a large mob of baying local idiots trying to kill us all - unpleasant).

Thing I remember most about the Stockport game was how bad the referee was, and Unitedites chanting "Lancashire wank, wank, wank....." (Stockport was in Cheshire before it became part of Gtr M'cr).... even the Blades fans were abject! :(
