Let's not overreact. They were better but we are still 7 points ahead with a game in hand. And we won't play a team as good as Boro for the run in. In their current form they are better than Burnley. Saturday's game now takes on added significance given last night's performance and the reaction to it.

Millwall are no great shakes and if we remain focussed and continue to do what we have been doing, winning games, accumulating points last night will fade from memory. It's also a sellout away contingent so an opportunity to get behind the lads. Atmosphere always better away nowadays.

Boro will have a blip sooner or later that's football. They gave everything last night. But it's still in our hands. Have a bit more faith. The team's earned it.

I'd also add that if we play like we played for the first 15 minutes last night we'll smash most teams. It was superb football. Great movement off the ball, wonderful precise passes, etc. We were Premier League for that quarter of an hour.
Sadly we usually do play like that for 15/20 minutes, no more just 15/20 minutes

Think your wrong millwall away is likely to be tougher than boro at home , millwall havd conceded fewer goals at home than any team in the championship

Millwall away is likely to be tougher thsn boro at home , millwall have the best defensive record at home in the championship , they also beat boro fairly comfortably at home and only went down 1-0 at boro in a gane that could have gone either way , that said i honestly dont think anyone will catch you regardless of what happens on sat , to all those coming down have a safe journey

Saw you on tv v Coventry, hope he doesn't play Esse, the 17yr old looked awesome when he came on.

“Bad night of the office!”

“Time to recover, refocus and put things right Saturday ⚔️.”

We'll get a result there

The squad's mentality is such that they will bounce back. May not win because its a hard place to go, but won't lose IMO

I'm more confident than I'd usually be going there because of our front two. Usually you'd worry about it being too much of a scrap to get the ball down in the final third for long enough but with McB and Ndiaye that won't be such a problem. They're more than up for the fight and have outstanding ability when it comes to making the ball stick and linking up

It's also a game where I'm very glad we have someone like Robinson

We need to win and have to go there with the belief we will

Would swap McAtee for Osborn but that's it. I don't think McAtee was as bad as people say last night but this one seems like the last game for him to be starting.... or second last after Luton anyway

Yes they have earned it

So have the management team - in spades

We got beat by the better team on the night

Our manager has worked wonders with hardly any help and support from those who should be helping and supporting him and his players over the line

Many people should show a bit more respect

Last 20 mins apart werent at the races we are inconsistent thats for sure ,esse hasnt started a league game yet but does look really promising , all of millwalls best periods have come when we have had home grown players come through going back as far as the days of teddy sheringham ,
Esse isnt likely to start on sat , but rowett has done a decent job at millwall and does occasionally surprise us

This is true. I genuinely thought we were gonna smash them it was a joy to watch. Shame we couldn't grab that 2nd goal

Give Coulibaly a chance against these, also, play Jebbo with Ndiaye, its worked for them before!
Rest Anel, who was our best player v Boro until the strange substitution?
Bash, Eags, Robinson back 3.
Coulibaly, Norwood And Fleck in the middle.
Bogle and Osborn at wb.
Why not, Lowe looked spent last night, Berge needs to know he can be dropped, Norwood has to play, even though it pains me after last night!
Anel was subbed for a reason, and Bash can cover.
Bring Mcburnie on for Jebbo later.
But we do need the win, so im guessing Hecky will go safe.

We’re going to get another spanking.

I'd rotate to prevent injuries and freshen it up. I'd play Jebbo to run in behind. Two of Mcattee, Berge and Ndiaye only. All three could use a rest and Id like one to come on to impact things

I'd also change the structure. Our high press was terrible. Millwall will likely miss it out and I doubt it'll be better due to the schedule and fatigue anyway. Osborn would come in for me at LWB as I'm fearful.of Lowe's hamstring going after so much football. Clark in if he's ready as JLT looked knackered. I also expect an aerial assault.

It will be interesting to see what we do tactically on Saturday. When we went there in the Cup, we changed formation and played 3-4-3 and it worked well (albeit against a weakened Millwall side). I wonder if we repeat that or whether the defeat on Weds will lead to a more cautious approach.

I also wonder if having our last clear midweek for a while might persuade them to risk it and not rest/rotate anyone in this game. I was delighted when we beat Wrexham but part of me wishes we'd lost now - a Weds night game against a PL side is far from ideal before a 12:30 away game on the Saturday.

I like it!
Sometimes you have to take a deep breath and remember that we are a standout team in this league.
As you said… a couple of good results and Wednesday night fades from memory.
I’m expecting a reaction on Saturday cos that’s what we do!

You been taken over ?

Not like you
There‘s me an my two sons. I’m a realist, eldest is an optimist and t’other is a pessimist when it comes to football, more specifically Sheffield United (we have different outlooks away from football).

I’ve nearly seen it all on and off the pitch from 5 years old on the John Street lower terracing up to last match against Middlesbrough.
Given our outlooks now consider there are three teams in a mini league for promotion to the PL and three managers.

Two of those managers are ex vastly experienced players that have performed under pressure at the highest echelons of world, European and club football winning damn near everything in sight. Ergo two of those managers have killer instincts with a capital K.

We’ve got Mr nice guy cool as a cucumber play it straight fair and steady, don’t take risks, get your nose in front and it’s just the result that matters. Don’t get me wrong he’s done a great job on and off the pitch and it’s admirable how he steadied the ship that Wilder rocked. He’s coped brilliantly through the injury crisis but so have other clubs. I sense he’s built a good bonded dressing room and the players like him. But, (here it comes) we don’t need a steady Eddy approach or a well liked Mr Nice guy. We need someone with a killer instinct to finish this season off.

We witnessed us being unplayable for 10-15 minutes against Boro, taking the lead, spurning 2 golden chances and then letting them drift back in to the game and score yet again with their first attack. That was it, their confidence rocketed and we looked like losers from there on in.

So, back to your point Bell4 it’s not like me to be down, I am the clown my Avatar depicts in all things but football. Remember I’m the realist and my instincts tell me notwithstanding the off field ongoing farcical events Hecky will cock this up by being over cautious. Come Satdi night ask me again, because I’m would not be surprised if our recent 14 point lead and huge goal difference that made us all feel very comfortable will have dwindled to 4 points and a few goals.

Yes we have a game in hand but when I witness Osbourne being brought on to salvage a game that Berge, Norwood, Ndiaye and McBurnie were nullified from by Heckys tactics and substitutions my sphincter is tighter than a ducks @rse.

Watch their goals. Archer and Akpom as well as Giles were allowed to run through our midfield time after time unchallenged (where was Berge?) and all three of their goals came from that. Hecky seems to think our defence is so good we can play the game in our last third and rely on hoof ball, long runs from Mctee (who’s nowhere near ready) and Ndiaye (who’s now got 2/3 markers each game) or playing on the side chalk line.

At this point I’m wondering if I should be on the mental health thread cause it’s really got me down watching a golden opportunity evaporate yet again, it’s the Blades way.

Anyhoo, theres optimist, a pessimist and a realist walks into a bar, one of ‘em is right and two of ‘em are wrong. But who will it be?

Good post and great rational explanation

However , the other two have had the support from their boards ours would kill for . Both have supplemented good squads in January to help them push on , at pace , and get over the line / possibly reel us in . Whereas our manager has to try to push on with less than what he had before the transfer window closed . He isn’t adding he’s had resources taken away plus he’s having to hope that young untried forward/ s come good to add to an erratic injury affected forward line .

I think all in all he’s doing a great job and you’re right - many arses are twitching as we all think - here we go again

Let’s hope his arse holds firmer than ours

Good points but he needs to go out and win games. We’ve got a squad near full fitness, no excuses he’s got to change his grey tactics and start demolishing sides or draw trying.

On a mute point can we stop discussing our relative bum holes please 🙏

One thing Sky said right last night is Hecky doesnt get enough credit for what he has done these last two years especially with the off field antics and zero money.
Whilst I like this, and agree with it to a large extent, the zero money thing is a bit of a red herring when you look at what the squad actually cost in the first place. It's not like we're running a threadbare team made up of over-the-hill journeymen having one last go, alongside 16-year-old lads from the academy. Look at what Rooney did with no money and no team at Derby and that's more impressive, IMO.

(That's not me slagging Hecky off, by the way. I think he's doing a good job, and the antics can't be helping matters at all - neither can the seemingly never-ending list of injuries.)
