Millwall Away FA Cup

i love the FA cup & i want to win on Saturday, league cup yes, but i would never gladly drop out FA cup too much history & memories attached to it. but saying that i agree hopefully its a battle of 2 reserves sides & we still can progress

What a shame that this is our attitude to what was once the greatest cup competition in the world. Even as late as the early 00's I loved watching us in the FA cup, probably more so than in the league. That's definitely gone now, but it's a shame.
i loved the fa cup back in the day when crowds were double what they were for league games and never missed any cup games some horrendous ones as well but im afraid the cup has lost its magic the financial rewards attached to promotion to the premier league far outweigh cup glory plus no team outside the premier league is winning the fa cup anytime soon its a closed shop

Should still be a 1000 Blades there and for that reason we should be looking to win. The last 3rd round FA Cup game there 2.0 win when we were in the Prem was a good day out. 'From Kazakhstan...'

Just realised it was a fourth round tie three years ago just before the pandemic.

Whatever happens please no replays.
Came to post the same.

Even worse, it would be played on Tuesday 17th and the Hull game has been brought forward to Friday night (20th).

May be an unpopular opinion, but we should still aim to win this, and every other game PH philosophy). I get it that some of those down the pecking order need game time, but giving our formerly injured squad. players some competitive game time is equally important, Bogle, Lowe, Osborn etc.

I'd like to see something like this line up:

Davis
Gordon
Basham
Robinson
Sachdev
Arblaster (if fit)
Doyle
Brooks
Jebbison
Marsh
Gaxha

Subs:
Ammisah, Gomis, Buyabu, Starbuck, Maguire

I want us to win, obviously, but I hope we win with a second string team. We're not going to win the FA Cup. I'm not enamoured by the lure of drawing a "big club" as a one off game - there's no thrill in that for me any more.

It's sad because I still have some of the nostalgia from cup games but for me it's a dead competition unless you're one of the teams that might have half a chance of a trophy. The value of the league has gone up year after year and the value of the cup has steadily gone down.

I think we can rotate the squad without inviting the opposition to put ten past us!

We had some great Cup runs under Warnock and Clough. Not that long ago. Obviously league takes priority.

I think we can beat Millwall, however, I won't be too bothered if we lose. if we do lose have we had a season with no cup game at Bramall Lane at all?
lost away in the caribou cup away earlier this season.

Id go with that !

-------------------Davies----------------
----Gordon-----Basham----JLT---------
Sachdev-------------------------Stevens (Boyes if not cup tied)
--------Blaster/Doyle----Brooks------
-----------------Berge-------------------
-----------Jebbo------Sharp--------------

Bench: Amissah, Bogle, Anel, Norwood, Osborn (if fit) Maguire, Marsh

I'd play both Stevens (if Boyes is cup tied?) and Sharp for some experience. Billy would be good for the young players and if he can grab a goal, good for his confidence. There is a risk playing Enda, but not sure who else we can play there?

Berge and Doyle (if Arblaster is ill?) to play as both were poor the other day and recovering from injury. A run out could do them good.

I think the others are probably self-explanatory.

I can't recall a match when we have so many options, but with a full seven days before the next game, manybe Hecky will play his strongest side to keep the momentum going.

Hope so

We need to win something and the FA cup is well within our grasp as long as we play our strongest side .

No point pissing about trying to get to the prem as we will get slaughtered every week - even when we’re not playing .

Come on Hecky - don’t ruin another year in my sufc life by letting the FA cup slip by again

I would go with:

------------------------------Davies
Bogle-----Bash--------Egan---------Robbo--------Boyes
---------------Doyle-----Norwood------Brooks
------------------------Jebbo-------Ndiaye

Subs:

Amissah, Sachdev, Gomis, McAtee, Coulibally Osula, Marsh

Said elsewhere. PH wants to win every game, and we get Millwall in the league 18 Feb anyway. Expect a strong side with no players carrying knocks or injuries.
Could be different tactics to avoid giving them notice of our plans for that league game. He does still like the FA Cup.

NB Osula will be available for the league game. 😊

The excitement used to be drawing a Prem club, because we'd been out of the Prem for so long.

Now, we want/expect to be playing Premier clubs every week so the novelty has worn off so there isn't really an exciting draw for us anymore - maybe non-league away.

With Millwall very much slap bang in the middle of the play-off pack, I don't see them putting out anything like a full strength side either. The Magic Of The F.A Cup......

............................Davies
............Basham..Gordon...Gomis
Sachdev.....................................Stevens
........Coulibaly*......Doyle........Brooks
.................Marsh.............Jebbison

Subs: Amissah, Baldock, Ahmedhodzic, Robinson, Stevens, McAtee, Sharp.

*Probably unlikely that we'll throw Coulibaly in straight from the start. If not ready, play McAtee.

Have seen a lot have picked Osborn, but he's out injured and hasn't trained.
We can't play Osula as he's cup tied.
I think we could play Boyes, but we then couldn't send him out on loan anywhere else this Jan.

I know PH said he's going down there to win and he's going to pick his strongest side, but I suspect he's up to his usual media tricks with that one.
Looked like a very young squad he had training.

I wouldn't want us to risk any first teamers on this. Egan & Norwood in particular are far too important to us right now.
