The Eze thread got me thinking I feel obliged to start this thread with ”should we stay up” (still not tempting fate) I hope we start to Spend a little in the best youngsters in the leagues below even if it means loaning them back out.

A bit like Ramsdale to Bournemouth, wouldn't mind a pop at the lad from Rochdale too Matheson.

Really do hope we start throwing our weight around a bit

I also have been thinking about this. It's hard to pick imediate improvements so why not use our position to make good investments.

One I was thinking about was Jayden Bogle. No way could we drop Baldock right now but we could sign him, loan him back and assess in the summer.

Good shout.

I mean I reckon we are already thinking about this. But there has to be a wealth of young talent out there who aren't quite ready

It solves alot of issues. I wouldn't be confident every player could hit the ground running in our system without a full preseason. Fitness wise we are a different level.

Alot of good players in recent years have made the step up into teams via loans to the championship.

With Prince and McWontfeckinlaydownandfeckrightoff involved I can’t see us ever making a serious go at the PL by attracting the kind of bottomless investment required to challenge the top 6 positions on a regular consistent basis.
So, we can only hope our investments are on young hungry players that can hold their own in a PL relegation and championship promotion battle in seasons to come. But even if we achieve that the PL clubs will come picking them off iht their millions.

I’ve got post Christmas blues.

Agree - Ivan toney would be high up on my list

Edit - just seen an article quoting £13m for him. I think that puts him way beyond 'potential'

People talk as if the price quoted for Eze is a lot of money, but these aren't new cars that'll instantly lose a shitload of value, as long as you don't massively overpay it'd be hard not to get value from it one way or another

I didn't but I have now after reading that!!

I'd get Brannagan from Oxford and immediately loan him back to them. Hes going to be a top holding midfielder who also chips in with some goals. Right age, right experience but not good enough to play first 11 premiership football....yet

Problem is that Baldock is so good and at 26 I think there's every chance we will be able to keep him then I don't see signing Bogle as essential, although if Baldock ever gets injured we're relying on Freeman who I doubt would be good enough to play week in week out, much as I like Freeman.

Is he only 26? For some reason I thought he was about 30. In that case I'd agree with you.

No manager will start buying the young 18/19 year olds when he’s only on a 3 year deal.

You have to maximise your time. CW can sign the best youngsters in Europe and be sacked before they come good. On the other hand he can sign 2 players that will keep him in a job.

The OP uses Bmouth as an example but their manager has more stability. Only 6 months ago we didn’t even know who our owner was going to be.

The owner can now hand out a 6 year deal give CW stability and properly build for the future.
