Please can we give this lad some minutes on the pitch now? He seems intelligent, technically good and in his brief spells playing has scored or set a goal up. Even if we retain the front two, or even the full eleven, surely he's good to be given 20 mins in a game like the Oldham game when he'd have given them more to think about than Cressy.

I like the look of him and think he brings a different quality to the side that can certainly help us. Geddim played more.

He would give more than cofie or macallister on the right ,if we cant accomodate him up front.

better do it fast Danny Boy .................................... HEY he'll have him sold faster than a gypsies dog !

Couldnt agree more Miller has shown in his very brief appearances prior to last night that he offers something different than the rest of our strikers and our problem is scoring goals and not putting teams away when we are on top as one goal is never enough. He offers a great deal more than Cresswell in every department but he always gets the nod from Wilson. Its about time Wilson showed some bottle and left Cresswell out. Cresswell should only play if Kitson is not in the squad

What about a Miller / Blackman partnership?

I am begining to think Cofie could go back to MU in January. We can save his fee.

Kitson/Miller for me or even Porter/Miller... Blackman needs to learn to be a team player

Said similar after seeing him come on for the last 20 mins or so at Coventry

Bright, mobile, intelligent and offers something different, certainly when compared to the likes of Cofie and Porter

I'm baffled at the idea of leaving out the excellent Dave Kitson. I'd play Miller behind the front two. I'm afraid Chappell has not done sufficient to justify a start and Cofie was a real flop last Saturday,

I appreciate this is playing Miller out of position, something I have always been vociferously against, but he demands a place on the strength of an outstanding display and two goals of rare quality. On the other hand, I couldn't advocate the dropping of either Kits or Blackman.

Guess I'll leave it to Danny!

As much as I like Miller, I wouldn't drop Blackman and Kitson is the first name on the sheet in terms of strikers at the moment.

Miller needs more game time though, as he's undoubtedly got something to offer. Just depends whether or not he's happy and can contribute enough on the wing or whether we start just giving him more time off the bench.

Surprised to see people suggesting Blackman needs to learn to be a team player, for me, this is one of his major benefits, he has more to his all round game than most.

I expected to see him at Orient - by far the best of our strikers in the warm-up, and yet Porter and Cressie both came on, offering us zero movement. He and Porter should be ahead of the rest in the queue in my view.

Shouldn't Porter maybe have the nod over Cresswell? Porter had a good game last night - him and Miller worked well together.

It makes little sense to have two target men (Porter AND Cressy) on the bench. We know now that we have a few younger players who can offer something to us.

nice to see a healthy argument over having plenty of options up front ,competition for places amongst 6/7 players , sounds like a warnock squad

Re foxy: my point was more that miller deffo needs some time off the bench and then see how he does.

Re: pinchy: I think he'd be good behind the front two. Gallagher wasn't really a wide man from what I saw and liked drifting inside. If we can let miller do that I'd like to see it. I guess the issue is protecting the full back. Which I think Flynn does well despite those who concentrate on his flaws in not tearing down the wing past opposing full backs. Maybe this side of miller's game is what Danny refers to in being in need of improvement? Depends where he sees him developing long term.

I think he brings threat and thought for the opposition though and needs more minutes and hopefully can develop in to proper first team material.

Danny has shown no bottle for taking a gamble so far, so i cant see that changing now. Not seen the game, but going on reports i'd definitely stick Miller in on the wing satdi. Can't really do any worse than everybody else whos played there. Seems the most sensible way to get him in the team. But going on danny's form, i'd be amazed if he's in the team. Probably won't even come on. Or if he does, for the last 8 minutes. I hope i'm wrong though. He's earned his chance.

Came on late at Preston yesterday and was brought down after nearly breaking clean through with his first touch, was a straight red in my opinion as he would then have been 1 on 1 with their keeper. Looked sharp for the few minutes he was on.
He's had a good week for the Blades.

Indeed, as has Chris Porter. I thought it was telling that they're perhaps now ahead of the rest of the other striking options when despite the fact they'd played a lot of Wednesday's game they came on yesterday, rather than the fresh legs of Cresswell & Cofie. Encouraging.

I still think Kitson & Blackman are the first choice pair we should look to, but I think we now have two that can make a difference off the bench and start when the chance comes up. Porter seems to have continued where he left off at the end of last season, which is good to see. In contrast, Cresswell seems to have rapidly aged - just doesn't look as quick or mobile as he was even as recently as 6 months ago.

It's a squad game, I'd like to see Wilson get smarter and less predictable with his changes, perhaps giving some of the fringe players 45 mins instead of just 5-30 mins. Not just tactical or forced changes, changes to keep people fresh and sharp.

The problem last season was that we had nobody to replace the likes of KMac, Cresswell and Ched, so when we lost them, we lost a lot of momentum as the players coming in were like strangers.

I expect that we'll mix things up again on Tuesday, which would be wise. We need wilson to Have confidence in some of the fringe players.

Of course the counter argument to this is that Cheds success came as a result of getting a good run of games, so a balance is needed

A couple of points:-

I think our problem was a genuine lack of cover last season. We simply didn't have anyone like Ched or KMac to fill in. This season we have like-for-like replacements for all our strikers. That will make a huge difference despite the fact none will match Ched's output on his own.

That just leaves KMac as the irreplaceable one. But in truth, given the weakening elsewhere, especially out wide, we seem to have learned how to scuffle along without him on top form anyway. If we strengthen on the left wing, I suspect KMac will start running games again, and the fear of losing him will heighten.

I hope Miller plays tomorrow.

Will he be In the Mood?
If the weather is fine perhaps the fans will provide a Moonlight Serenade

It's important we don't expect too much of him. He could crash and burn, that much is plain.

I'll award a prize to a sense making inclusion of 'string of pearls' and 'Chattanooga Choo Choo' in this thread. Though his version of the Londonderry Air, which he called 'Danny Boy' is a tap-in!

I think Miller is one of a string of pearls we seem to be producing and the only thing I'm worried about is Kitson going to MLS where he might have to catch the Chatanooga Choo Choo on the odd occasion.

Ahem...

:D

String of Pearls is just about acceptable, the Kitson diatribe is feeble! 5/10 :)
