apologies for being a bit randome here, but i think mikele is a great player a bit unlucky with injuries but i think his worth ethic is great and he hardly looses the ball, in a couple years i can see a amazing player, wat r your views on this?

Makelele is a quality midfield player Mikele isnt and is as bad as Monty. Unlucky with injuries yes but still is nothing special when fit.

Although Monty hasn't performed for lots of this season I thought he was brilliant against the Arse (Which no-one seems to have mentioned (I may be wrong but can't be arsed to look).
I think a lot of our central midfielders haven't performed upto what they can this season.
They all need to improve and i'm sure NW will have told them as much.
Hopefully if we do get a new central player then it will inspire the rest to perform to a higher standard.

Monty always does well against Arsenal, I was in no way bad mouthing monty, but i dont think mikele is as bad as him. (that does sound harsh :D)

Would have been nice for monty to give fabregas a dangerous challenge after his horriific one against monty in fa cup other year.

I think that Leggy started well against Arsenal and was disappointed when he got injured and was subsequently replaced.

He is a bit hit and miss with the ball at his feet but i have seen enough from him to believe he can grow into a very good deffensive midfielder.

The problem is that we already have good deffensive midfield options so he may see his opportunities limited unless Jags returns to centre back.

leggy, usually gets the ball and passes to the oposition. hes hit and miss as you say. hell play crap all game but will put in an ace cross for us to score and with the game.

ifill syndrome.........

(not sure how to put this)
people are going to have different views on players because of memories. When a player has one bad or good performance a person will create an opinion on that player and stick to it no matter how good or crap they play in other games. So where someone might think mikele is great others will think he is crap.

Hope that made sense

yes it did lol, i must have first seen him on a good performance then :P

i judge the player on the performance on the day. Like the other day one of my uncles was talking about montgomery (who he really doesn't like) on how fantastic he played against arsenal but should definately be dropped for the boro game because he's still not good enough. Couldn't believe the words coming out of his mouth-how can you drop a player from the side who's just played brilliant against arsenal.

I'm afraid people make judgements about players and can't judge them on a game by game basis.

Some fans can't go to a game with an open mind and have decided who is going to be good before it starts.

Indeed, Monty was excellent against Arsenal whilst others were very average. In some minds he's still useless and should not be in the team.

I think he should have played at the Boro.

But what do I know?

Maybe because the style of game we played against Arsenal was perfect for Montgomery? Many Blades believe Dave Bassett was the best manager we have ever had and he was a strong advocate of "horses for courses" as opposed to giving players the shirt and it's up to them to lose it. I reckon there's pros and cons to both methods and although Warnock has only recently started to employ a bit of Bassett's model, I think it's good for the club not to be picking a team totally on sentiment. Admittedly he probably got it wrong against 'Boro but at this level, when every single point is important to our survival, we have to pick the right player for the right job.

But what do I know?

Maybe it was a simple case of some of the players from the Arsenal game being tired. The Boro game was less than 48 hours later...?

I dont think we can use that excuse, boro went through a similalrly hectic xmas program and we rested a good number of the team against Arsenal.

I don't doubt that ALL premiership players were tired after the grueling schedule but if it is the same for both teams then it ceases to give either team an advantage.

It was just one of those days where we never really got going and in the end the front two for Boro proved to be the difference between two mediocre sides.

It was disappointing but we move on...
