Defence is clearly an issue but I think midfield as well. As well as Coutts, Fleck and Duffy have played I think Coutts is beginning to have a full season catch up with him (as is Duffy). We need a tough tackling box to box midfielder and we need one now. Reed was on the bench today, Whiteman is out on loan. W're really struggling if we get any injuries and we need someone with more pace and engine.

You really are clueless about football. Have you tried following NFL or wrestling?

So 'chaps', Fleck breaks his leg. What happens then?

We'd lose more than we'd gain by taking out one of the midfielders for a battler.

Carruthers being an attacking midfielder in the vein of Duffy? Fixes our workrate, marking and tackling? ok.

I didn't say they would necessarily replace any of our midfield. We have no midfield plan b (oh yeah, Basham) or the ability to rest any of them (at the moment). Carruthers can replaced Duffy, and maybe Coutts, but not Fleck.

The impression I get from is he can play anywhere in Midfield. Had a habit of coming very deep to pick the ball up at MK Dons, not unlike Coutts. So I'm sure he also has it in him to play Flecks role, if needed.

Why do you need a plan b when you consistently dominate midfield?

Which player (from any club) could replace Fleck at the moment?

I think our midfield is still our biggest strength. If we lose Coutts or Fleck then Basham slots in and although we lose a bit of creativity we gain a bit of bite. For Duffy we have Carruthers or Scougall. Carruthers can also play a bit deeper at a push.
It would take 2 big injuries in there to give us a serious problem.

I would also add that Wilder doesn't appear to go for this idea of an enforcer type who mops up for the more creative players. He has gone on record as saying that all of his midfielders need to be able to play defensively and attacking in equal measure. They all need to graft, get the ball back from the opposition and contribute to attacks. From what I have seen all of our current bunch get stuck in and can pick a pass as well as being able to make a run forward.

For some reason today they let Gills dance through them for 15 minutes, as did the defence.

I actually don't believe we need anyone in addition to what we've got in order to get promoted - we are top of the league after all.

A bit more application in defence is all that's needed, and preferably a return to fitness for Lafferty who is unsung.

Too many sideways passes around box without an end product. Our possession and total domination of games is simply not being turned into the clear cut chances our play deserves.
Fleck Duffy and Coutts are all brilliant footballers, but just need re-educating on where fucking goal is.

We have a very strong midfield, Couuts has been excellent, ditto Duffy and Fleck. Carruthers can replace either Fleck or Duffy if needed and Scougall and Basham can cover as they did at Bury. Reed is back on bench meaning that we can call on him when required.

not where our problems lie

I'm not advocating for a replacement, but cover. Coutts, Fleck and Duffy have played most games and it's bound to catch up with them.
, even if they avoid injury and suspension.

You can move Basham up but then the pace goes out of the defence. I just think having a Coady type of player who can inject some legs, bit and drive in, if needed, would be a huge benefit.

I think our midfield 3 has lost a little intensity when we haven't got the ball. probably about 5-10 yards deeper in the last few games and it's allowing teams to break out easier. The pressure game makes other teams give the ball away but I feel teams are now coming out at us a bit more now.

I started getting worried at Bury because they were allowed the ball in midfield and got the ball wide to split the back 3.

We created a hatful of chances yesterday. 2 disallowed. McNulty one on one. Numerous others.

Listen to what Wilder says please. We are making poor decisions when we have got into the box and also only Bill is scoring out of the 4/5 players that have played next to him. This says the midfield have done their job opening teams up, so we need to be more ruthless in front of goal. He also says time and time again about putting teams to bed. Yes, the defence has been poor these last 3 games but really we should have been out of sight before the defensive lapses.

Midfield have defensive duties as well. I think an element of fatigue is beginning to show and they're unconsciously dropping a bit further back, which puts pressure on the defence.

Well I've heard it all now, as disappointing at only getting 1 point from our last 2 games and conceding 6, some " fans" on here have suddenly decided Moore is no good, the defence is poor and we do not score enough to suddenly saying our midfield isnt up to it, for fucks sake get some perspective, we are top, playing good attacking football, 2 weeks agi we were all spunking ourselves, how can it so suddenly be so bad? Let me tell you something, it isn't, have some fucking faith and support.

The next installment of our midfield is Carruthers - probably more a replacement/competition for Duffy, but we really need to see how CW & AK see Carruthers fitting into how we play.

I still think midfield looks tired and lacks the drive to dictate the tempo Wilder wants. Obviously Caruthers and O'Shea will come in but they're both attacking players. As is Scougal. I still think Wilder has dropped a bollock if we're not bringing this type of player in. Midfield has begun to go sideways and backwards again. Coutts is on the slide and probably needs a rest. Duffy, ditto. We look off the pace.
