He's the sort of player we should be moving heaven & earth to rebuild our squad around if we seriously want to challenge for promotion next season.

I understand what you're saying but on the basis that the Board are likely to be making little available in terms of transfer fees, we need to use the loan system and target suitable out-of-contract players to give us any chance of escaping our self-imposed exile in this Division.

We must clear out our out-of contract players plus some of the contracted ones as well, as they've proved beyond doubt they can't do the business, so the only way to replace them, in the absence of a transfer budget, is loans and free agents.
