Hope he gets a decent reception on Saturday ,he is a Blade and took on his dream job when probably he shouldnt ,which one of us wouldnt ?. He was greatly undermined by certain players who cared fuck all about Sheffield United and made him look a twat especially Ward and Yeates ,whos attitude and behaviour was disgusting .They and others were the cancer in the club and very few managers could have changed things.

Can't think he'll get much stick from the fans. He was given a shit sandwich to munch on and all he did was apply a vinegary seasoning.

Neither missed nor hated.

What evidence do you have for your 'attitude and behaviour' quote.
Adams wasn't unlucky, just inadequate.

Refusing to train ,even to attend training, feigning injury to skive in the treatment room ,total disregard for Adams. Obviously i wont reveal my source but they have no reason to tell untruths.

I don't think he's hated, but he was probably the worst manager in the history of SUFC. I have said 723 times before that the squad he had was good enough to stay up and (pace Revolution), even if he lost decent players like Bartley and Britton, he was given funds to replace them with and brought in mainly dross (Bent, Lowry, Maddock, Collins, Doyle, Philliskirk, Conneely, McAllister, Tonne, Vokes and Riise were all signed by Adams in his short reign).

Statistically the worst. I make Robbo the worst by what he cost us on and off the pitch.

It's speculative to suggest a different man would have saved us, but as Sitwell alludes to, many believe the rot had set in prior to Adams. The apparent quality of some of the players we had was undermined by their attitude.

Adams was left a difficult job which he was nowhere near up to. I've more anger for McCabe, Birch, and players such as Yeates and Ward. Bad generals and cowardly footsoldiers.

I thought he was very unlucky to be honest. Games where we clearly should have won such as Leicester and millwall at home just wouldn't go his way. All the best to him.

True, Robson did worse with the resources at his disposal - he should have had us running away with automatic, instead we flirted with relegation. Adams, on the other hand, should have led us to lower mid table mediocrity, instead he relgated us by 7 points.

As for the rot setting in before Adams took over bear in mind we were not even in the relegation zone when he took charge and our last 8 games had seen a mid tableish record of W3 D1 L4. From that to a relegation by 7 points takes some ineptitude.

I remember saying to the old man when Adams became our manager - "He's not going to do much in the long term but at least we won't relegated with him in charge". We had just started Gary Speed's managerial career off where the emphasis was getting the ball down and playing which, with Blackwell's squad, was going to take time. But the signs were there (anyone who went away to Derby would have seen that) and then when he left McCabe should have kept this running with a manager who had the same ideas. This would have been my priority. Adams is not known for fluent, passing football.
However, I guess the guy kind of deserved his chance akin to Warnock in that he had managed a few promotions (though not as many as Neil), doing particularly well in lower divisions and was doing a terrific job with Port Vale at the time. McCabe knew that he could pay him peanuts too as it was his dream job.
I don't begrudge him at all - he was given a chance and he failed spectacularly. Admitting the job was too big and getting Harry in to help was the end for him in many fans eyes. Ultimately, he could not handle the size of the job and went about it in the wrong way. It's not his fault he was bobbins - it is McCabe's for making the mistake in hiring him in the first place.

I'm still at a loss as to why it didn't work out for him, particularly given he recruited Dave Bassett to help him answer the phone. That in itself should have guaranteed survival.

I haven't got a problem with Adams.

He took over a sinking ship and I wouldn't be at all surprised if his Port Vale side, give us a bit of a fright on Saturday.

Hope not.

Doesn't deserve any flack but was a spectacular failure. But had we sacked Blackwell before the season started rather than after he had spent the cash then we wouldnt be where we are today.

Nail on head.

Blackwell was sacked 3 games too late, or 17 too early.

i never like having a dig at mccabe  but he has an incredible knack for employing managers that nobody else in their right mind would even consider. its almost as if he deliberately chooses the candidates he knows everybody will disagree with. lets find someone that either the fans hate, has been a hopeless failure everywhere he's managed, is a drunk, is a moaning old git, or has no experience outside of sunday park leagues. preferably at least 2 or 3 of those qualities need to apply if possible.

on that basis our next manager will probably be one from trevor francis, steve evans, gordon strachan or bob carolgees.

If we had not sacked Blackwell in the first place we wouldn't have been anywhere near relegation.

It was pathetic that the man was sacked just because people didn't like him.

Effectively shit ,Qpr had just let us off with a 3-0 ,he should never have been allowed near the club again after Burnley.

Strange that a man who shouldn't have been near the club took us to an 8th place finish the season after the play off final defeat.

Most will take pity on him and give him warm reception. He was crap, we knew he was crap, but he was kinda nice at being crap. Shocking decision to appoint on top of shocking decision to appoint Robson, Blackwell....

Adams did a terrible job in a difficult situation. If I were apportioning blame for that season, McCabe would be at the top of the list, and Adams would not be second (Blackwell, who had a shocking pre season on the signings front, and some of the players would rate higher) but he takes a lot of the blame. He deserves indifference at best.

There are a lot of managers that nobody in their right mind should consider, but they keep on getting re-employed. It's all part of the crazy Managerial Merry-Go-Round.

I have a little bit of sympathy for McC in the appointment of Adams. In the end it proved too big and he flopped in a pretty spectacular way, but his record prior to the job was pretty decent and McCabe had his main success at the club with a manager who had a decent record in the lower leagues and was a self-confessed Blades fan. Trying to replicate the winning formula was a total failure, but I can see the thinking behind it!

Hope he gets a decent reception! If it was Robson or Heath returning? Boo away!!

If memory serves me right he was sacked because we performed pants in front of some potential investors and McCabe was left with egg on his face. The sort of knee jerk reaction you expect on the Apprentice rather than from a supposed seasoned Captain of Industry. I do think McCabe took leave of his senses for three years following our relegation. I just hope he has got them back now.

Interesting perspective. I don't have any sympathy because I thought McCabe got him in because he was a Blade and he would have been cheap. Win the fans over and keep them quiet. Never quite turns out that way though does it?

O I'm not saying the thinking was right, sensible or tested and reviewed. McCabe had limited his options following his appointment of Robson (again terrible thinking flying in the face of valued opinion at the time) and was on a limited budget, which was a factor in the choice of Adams, but I still think the major thinking behind it was 'Warnock Mark II'
