Micky Interview

Micky Adams has gone back to manage the club he supported as a boy but so far he is finding it difficult to turn around the fortunes of struggling Sheffield United.

The home draw against Millwall means he is still waiting for his first win as manager in eight games since he took over. Here he talks to GMF about his short time at Bramall Lane…

Q. You were a minute away from securing your first win when Kevin Lisbie struck to level. You must have been gutted?

A. Yes we were so close and I thought we were the better team and deserved more than a point so it is disappointing.

Q. It is now eight games without a win and you are firmly in the relegation region. How worried are you?

A. Obviously it's worrying, it was a difficult job when I took it on and it is even more so now. Can it get much worse? I hope not. But you've got to be fearful that it could.

Q. Can you put your finger on where things are not quite going for you?

A. Well, we have difficulties dealing with set pieces and corners at both ends of the pitch. You have to have desire to go and win the ball and at the moment that is a problem for us.

Q. I suppose you have to be very clinical and honest when you assess the situation?

A. Everyone at this club has got to take collective responsibility for the situation we are in. The players, the staff, previous managers and myself, even though I've only been here for less than two months. There's nothing to be gained from hiding that fact.

Q. And how about you. How are you managing this?

A. I will have to go away and question myself and I'm sure, if I have missed a trick, someone will let me know.

Q. Can you get out of this?

A. I cannot fault the players for their efforts but whether we are good enough remains to be seen. But we play all the teams around us soon so it is in our own hands.
