That could have been an exciting time if we hadn't broke it up with selling Jones & then Birchinall.
Two very young strikers in a very young team ,the old guard which got us up a number of years earlier were being eased out
unfortunately selling our too strikers were in demand and by selling we left ourselves vulnerable to relegation which duly arrived as the young team lacked the experience to get over the loss.
It was a good set up with local produced players making up most of the squad.
Our home form went down the pan as the pressure increased towards the end of the season approached.From memory I think we had 5 of our last 7 at home but couldnt win any ,the young team crumbled in front of a critical blades home crowd.
We even beat Liverpool at Anfield in the run in towards the end but the young team crumbled at home with the pressure.
I remember well a night game against Fulham at the lane,they were bottom and stayed there! we were winning 2-0 with 15 mins to play and lost 3-2 the writing was on the wall after .
