Prior to this game he has been the man in the middle for 16 matches in the premier league and Europa League combined. In that time he has waved the yellows around quite a bit (averaging about 4 a game) but has only shown 1 red card in all the games which might be seen by some as a fairly lenient referee.

However he wasn't going to show that red card tonight until it was something so blatant that he couldn't possibly do anything but send him off which was disappointing and had they so called premier league big boys pegged us back then I would have been ranting about this a good bit more than I am now.

The main one who got off the hook was the number 10 player, forgive me I don't know his name of the top of my head and I can't be ars*ed to google it. He got booked in the first half and I counted at least 2 more fouls that warranted the second yellow card. The first being the high foot on Howard which was nothing short of dangerous play and the second was the challenge on young Reed for the freekick that we scored from.

Overall I thought they got off lightly because they kicked chunks out of our players at times through frustration and embarrassment. An amazing night all things said but it ain't a United match without a rant after all. Michael Oliver hang your head in shame

Not only should their No 10 have gone for a second yellow - schniederling was very lucky when he kicked the ball away.

Oliver bottled both decisions and all this crap about refs "keeping" players on the pitch is bollocks - Oliver should grow a pair of bollocks !

It was Mané their number 10 who could have been sent off earlier on.

They got away with most things tonight and it had to be a blatant incident for one of their lads to go.

Mane should have gone, Wanayama could have gone and both of them were subbed after they'd avoided second yellows and that looked to me an admission that reds were in the offing.

Schneiderlin booted the ball into the crowd, as bad a case of dissent as you'll see and if he hadn't already been booked, that would have been a yellow, so he should have gone.

There were hardly any really bad tackles and it sounds ridiculous to suggest they could have been down to eight or even seven men, but a stricter interpretation of the rules could have seen that happen.

If the referee had sent more players off , this would have deflected from the reason why we won . We played fantastic throughout , but the media and Southampton would have used more sendings offs as a excuse why Southampton lost.

If the boot was on the other foot , we would have been down to 9 men . Remember Premiership v League 1 . One rule for one , one rule for the other.
