He was the best player in the division that season by an absolute mile.

It's just a shame he was never able to reproduce any of this for the Premier League teams he played for. Most people just know him as being a dirty shithouse, but he was once a great player.

To be fair he was played in a different position in the Prem, he was playing more montys position.

Maybe we could play Montiniho as an attacking midfielder and hed be as good as brown?

I will always consider myself fortunate to have seen him play for us that season.

I could watch that goal against Wednesday again and again. I'm struggling to think of a better goal I've ever seen for United.

Jags against Leeds is the best Blades goal Iv ever seen, Browns is second

Isn't that what Warnock alluded to when he said Brown's replacement is already at the club. For some reason, I can't quite see Monty scoring some of the goals that Brown did, unless it was attempted close control that flew into the top corner.

i thought his replacement was meant to be ian ross?

Left foot, right foot in the box but mainly outside the box. What a player he was, i don't think anyone at any club will be able to replicate what he done in that season in this division.

One goal that may get forgotten about though, which is a close 2nd to that which he scored against the pigs was his bullet volley against Ipswich in the cup.

Oh lord Michael Brown!

I tell you what (I'm coming over all Warnock), if you think you've lost your mojo, think you've lost the pride and passion in the Blades, I defy you to watch that and not feel it all flooding back.

Forget the disappointments, forget what it feels like now. It can, and it will, feel like that again.

We're blessed to follow this team. Not many could handle the ups and downs but we were born to it.

Even Micalijo got excited by that video for fuck's sake (he did, honestly).

UTB, FTP. Bring on the dingles. Get down to BDTBL on Saturday and sing Morgan's name loud and proud. Get your ticket for the sty and show the porkers that one team will sell out away allocations regardless.

(PS - Drinking's great)

One thing that jumps out at me from those goals is how many of them were in front of a half-empty Kop. Home crowds that season started around the 13,000-14,000 mark. That era unearthed another 10,000 or so fans who have stuck with us through everything that has happened since.

It would be a shame to lose all that progress now.

The moving camera behind the goal when Brown was taking the penalty against Rotherham at 3:24 looks like something out of a film.

brings a tear to the eye, both sentimentally and seeing the state we're now in and the apathy that engulfs us. here's to a return to excitement on a matchday

You're right Coops, based on that post i'd go into battle for you.

Sod the Singing area's and the GCB lyrics just get Coop's in front of the Kop with a microphone Delia Smith Style, with Brownies goals and Morgan punching the air on a video montage. I defy anyone not to get behind the team and sing their hearts out for 90 minutes with that!

Come on you red and white wizzzzzards ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !

No way Ted! Jags' goal was stunning but it was a straight forward, powerful foot through the ball. Where as Browny's goal took concentration, positioning and technique. It's the best United goal ive ever seen...........

But then again I'm biased as he is my favourite player of all time (my generation of course).

He was unstoppable that season

You're right Lou... It was the best damn goal I ever saw....

We don't have anyone at the club who can do that now... How good was that goal against wendy.

Great stuff - agree with everything. Only problem is that the feeling is not coming back under Blackwell and every demonstration of support for the team is a demonstration of support for Blackwell and I can't do that.

That brought back some memories! Nearly every goal he scored was from outside of the box.

I have the season review on DVD from that year, not watched it for years. Think I'll stick it on later now.

I think 2002-3 gave everyone their passion back. Before that we all knew we had nowt and that it was going to take Warnock's make-do-and-mend dealing, motivation and nouse to fluke us a ticket back to the big-time. 02-3 was nearly that year - but it was fans, club and players all pulling together.

I'd lost interest pretty much completely - just travelling over for the odd game to catch up with mates at the game. The Leeds game in the League cup was the first game I'd bothered with that year - and sat in H-block I could sense that something was going to happen (although I'd have put my money on it being a riot rather than a win - something of an edge to the atmosphere that night).

As the came clear to Jags I'd just started to light a fag - the scream as he hit it nearly brought my lungs out. I hadn't finished it as the final whistle went.

Brownie's goal at the Lane against the pigs was a highlight - but the two games against Liverpool were the standout for me. At the Lane Brownie's assault on the Keeper (Kirkland?) mirrored the mood in H-block and I thought we were outstanding on the night. At Anfield our support was amazing - I still get Liverpool fans talking to me about it at work. Walking out of the away-end towards Stanley park singing felt amazing - but apparently looked even better to the Scousers who could hear us all over the surrounding streets for ages after they'd got out of the ground.

Cardiff and Old Trafford were both cracking days out spoiled by football games - although at least the team turned up at Old Trafford.

How many players from this season's squad would get in that season's? Monty now is better than Monty then, and possibly Morgan for Page or Murphy. Maybe Henderson, but that's about it.

His one against Ipswich in the cup wasn't bad either. Or the one away at Walsall...............or the one away at Norwich...............:D

I think the one against Ipswich was better than the one against Wednesday, the goal against Wednesday just meant so much more...

I'm pretty certain these goals were in successive home matches too?

Really? You'd have nuddy over Ward?

What a privelige it was to watch that man in action that season.

I get goosebumps every time I see that goal against Wednesday. I don't think I'll ever see a better goal, the technique was incredible. The kind of goal that had Rooney scored, would be featuring on such TV shows as '50 Greatest Goals of the 21st Century'

Micalijo in turning around thread to make it a Blackwell Out thread shocker...

Amazingly though this thread lasted until page 2!

THAT goal against weds still makes me tingle. Not just the goal but the disbelief of the grunters behind the net. What a goal! Brilliant

I don't think anything compares to the one against Wednesday. It would have been spectacular against anyone, it will just be more memorable because it was in the derby. For technical merit it is probably one of the best goals ive ever seen. Easily up there with the Van Basten volley and Bergkamp in France 98'....................

It was all the sweeter in that game though. That crowd of little piggies behind the goal stood still in silence as it flew past Pressman. He didn't even see it, just gestured at it. When Quinny scored theirs I was getting loads of texts from my piggy mates giving me stick. When Browny's went in I text back with a message that looked like this;

....................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................???
