Following on from last weeks 'view from Oxford' where one of their fans hilariously described Appleton as the 'Tomorrow Man' of football management, I thought it would be fun to keep tabs on him, so that we're not missing out on what this visionary has to offer.....

This may belong in some other part of the forum, so what, sue me!

Last week after defeat to the mighty blades, Michael defiantly proclaims that his side still have a chance of making the play-offs......

A mere 7 days later and after another defeat, it appears Michael has changed his mind.....

It's fairly obvious to me that we are in the midst of one of the great philosophers of the game.

Never been a lover of Appleton . Another manager who seems to walk into jobs when not doing or achieving a lot .

The only thing I can say about your post , thank fuck he is at Oxford United and not Sheffield United .

McCabe and Co could have quite easily fallen for his 3 card trick aka Madkins .

Well done the OP. In the space of a few days Appleton has gone from extolling the talents of his team to suggesting they're not up to the job. Hardly the type of manager to get the best from his players. I see he also touched upon the quality of the pitch, maybe food for thought for those who question the wisdom of laying the Desso.

Not that it was likely, but the fact that Appleton is at Oxford shows that we probably missed a bullet. Long may Wilder and Knill reign! UTMB

Certainly is a visionary and a true philosopher and what that other word for him is it Cock Womble?

To be fair he's done a decent job at Oxford - getting them out of L2 last season, not far off the L1 play-off places this season, a good cup run this year and JPT final last year and this. He's been helped by the funds from the sale of Roofe to Leeds and O'Dowda to Bristol City but he's signed several decent young players who will improve and used the loan market wisely.

Of course, I wouldn't even dream of swapping him for CW though.

Strange, Oxford have a XtraGrass pitch like at the Ricoh it is claimed they are better than a Desso o_O just sounds like another excuse from an average at best manager to me.

They change their minds quickly too. In the 'View From...' last week, they were almost proclaiming him as the chosen one.
Obviously Oxford fans and Appleton are a good fit.

I took the quotes a little out of context and time frame, they do still love him very much in fact have a little name for him "MAPP" I could not read too many of the he is god quotes, made me feel quite sick so I thought I would look at some of the old quotes, and the love was not there at first they hated the man!

but now they do very much love him. :confused:

These are comments about him being eye'd up for the England U21 role,

What do you class as long-term in football nowadays? Out of 92 he's the 17th longest serving manager. He's rebuilt our playing squad over a season and earned a promotion playing quality football.

You could also argue he's now established us as a solid mid table League 1 team in our first season up, still playing the correct way. He's clearly got the ability to developing young English players, he fits their bill perfectly but why would he leave OUFC now?"

Funny how people assume maguire will leave as he wants to play higher, and hylton left as he wants more money and got a family to think about, yet when it comes to Appleton he will stay as he will want to finish the job? Didn't Appleton have some sort of altercation in the tunnel against their (very) bitter rivals Swindon a while back? Got a black eye or something.
