Might suit us then as we also need a bit more experience before we step back up another level.Live in Lincoln and seems to be doing a good job here, brought in some decent young loan players and plays nice football but feel he still needs a bit of managerial experience before he is ready to step up a level.
Appleton has managed 6 clubs so far.Might suit us then as we also need a bit more experience before we step back up another level.![]()
He's managed more clubs than Wilder has.Live in Lincoln and seems to be doing a good job here, brought in some decent young loan players and plays nice football but feel he still needs a bit of managerial experience before he is ready to step up a level.
Wilder had no experience at Championship level. At the time some saw him as a terrible appointmentWould be a terrible appointment. Not very good at Championship level.
What’s your point? Appleton has had some experience in the championship, more so than Wilder actually.Wilder had no experience at Championship level. At the time some saw him as a terrible appointment
And other than this season had a very mixed record, 1 good season doesnt show he's ready. Agree he is highly thought of here in Lincoln but needs to show it over a number of seasons before being someone we should take a risk on. Feel there are better options out there that are less of a riskHe's managed more clubs than Wilder has.
The point is you said Appleton would be a terrible appointment. Many thought Wilder was when we appointed him. What’s your point? Appleton has had some experience in the championship, more so than Wilder actually.
True, but the difference is Wilder had never been able to prove himself at that level. Appleton has proven he can’t hack it at Championship level. The point is you said Appleton would be a terrible appointment. Many thought Wilder was when we appointed him.
However, Wilder has and had been successful everywhere he’d been. Michael Appleton has been far from that.Wilder had no experience at Championship level. At the time some saw him as a terrible appointment

Somewhere in between I reckon. A truly brilliant season and a truly woeful season.Question. Is Chris Wilder proven or unproven at Premier League level?

It’s a good point - I’m fairly sure there are a number of good managers currently in work, or failed short term and have been forgot.I think you're right, though I reckon most non-Blades would now think employing him for a PL job would be a big risk.
On another thread I listed out the record of Rafa Benitez. His first 2 managerial positions lasted a combined 32 games. In his next job he got a side promoted, then immediately relegated. Three years later he was in charge of a side that won the Spanish league. Clubs were prepared to give him a chance despite it not working out for him at first. That paid off.
In England Benitez would have never have got another coaching position in the top two divisions after the two initial failures, for the reason you already gave in post #6
