i was worried the end of the first half as the crowd were getting restless and some dickhead in the middle of the kop is shouting 'gerritdahn pitch macdonald' and the usual shit..some people have been watching shit so long they don't know any different.. so it got me thinking
we are going to have to be patient.. teams coming here now know how we play and have seen us turn teams over 4 nil with ease so they're going to come like wycome did and get all the team behind the ball on the 18 yard line.. thing is none of these teams can string together 6 passes so all we have to do is hold our shape, maintain concentration, get the ball back and start again because after five passes they will lose it anyway.. this does NOT mean hoofing the bloody ball up in the air. We are passed this evolutionary stage now (thank goodness) .. we play a different style now. bassett was a great bloke but he isn't here now. get over it.
as long as the crowd dont' start to panic (like they almost did today) we can beat all of these teams because we are better than all of them. we are the only team i've seen who can pass the ball around like a proper outfit and don't play like an ice hockey team. if we hold our nerve and keep playing, we can beat all of this shit.
keep the faith . UTB

Been like this for decades though. I've fell out wi people on the kop for the "GERRITFORRARD" bullshit. That was a few years ago now, but it won't go away. The people that demanded the likes of O'Driscoll as manager and a "cultural revolution" would have been the same ones going GERRITFORRARD.

maybe you should tell the manager then

Asked what he said to his players at half time with the score at 0-0, the Blades' boss replied: "We just had to quicken ourselves up a bit in terms of our possession and getting balls into areas that were causing them problems. We were a little bit slow, maybe one pass too slow in the first half to do that. Second half we picked the tempo up and I think that was the difference."

It is incredible. I remember the first home game of the season against Brentford. We were 2 nowt up and cruising. Ten minutes to go and we just passed it around. Brentford could not get the ball off us. We showed little attacking intent, but were professionally seeing the game out. I was rubbing my eyes and wondering what the fuck was happening: only in my dreams had a Sheffield United team made more than 5 consecutive passes. There was some absolute plank in front of me playing hell up. Gerrrit forrrard. Stop fucking abart. Wot they fuckin abart at? He wasn't that happy when I reminded him we were 2 nil up with 10 minutes to go and cruising to 3 points. Don't know why I tried to reason with such a numpty and it actually almost came to blows. The mentality of some Blades just makes me want to weep.

This has been the case a few times this season. Credit to Wilson for urging the players to up the tempo. It may not just be patience that breaks teams down eventually, it may also be specific tactical instructions and adjustments from the management.

are you sure you just didnt make that up so you could join in the new "gerritforrard "craze that is sweeping the forums of s2 ?

there's a definite difference between 'upping the tempo' and lumping the ball aimlessly forward.. they aren't the same thing

I think everybody agrees with that. Better movement, letting the ball flow quicker, passing to players who are moving forward (rather than backward passes), less dwelling on the ball, avoiding to let the tempo drop for set pieces, is upping the tempo, doesn't mean we have to hoof it forward.

reminds me of the lee evan joke that all them fans seem to know what there talking about so at half time the manager come on to the pitch with a megaphone and points to one of them and asks him what he wants the team to do but he just s***s himself and goes quiet so true

I must admit that I got a little frustrated in the 1st half because whilst we had all the possession I felt we were shot shy.
We wanted to get the ball to the edge of the area and then chip it in for a header which they dealt with easily.
I kept shouting shoot as they got to the edge of the area.
We did not work the keeper at all in the 1st half.
2nd half was better in that we were a little more direct and Hoskins found the right position for the tap-in.
Evans was also frustrating for me.
He kept drifting out to the wing and was even taking throw-ins at one stage.
When the through pass was there for him he never read the play and missed out time and again as the defender was way ahead of him in his reading of the game.

don't forget as well that we were kicking toward the kop end second half with the lights on.. it makes a tremendous difference.. probably 0.25 goals per game.. thought evans suddenly woke up when hoskins came on.. we lack a bit of movement when cressy is on but he does wear out their centre halves.. i hope k macs goal will give him more confidence to shoot.. for a bloke who can hit 50 yard pinpoint passes its a bit bewildering
we can do this.. just keep playing our football
