I don't get the obsession with the 'Premiership' and the perception that it is the only place to be? I support Sheffield United FC, as has every generation of my family since 1889. I always will support them irrespective of their financial status or league position and could never transfer that allegiance to any other team.

It's not about an obsession with the Premier League, that's a horrible place to be. The obsession comes from a club with a big ground, large overheads and a bank balance that's fooked. The cash that comes with the cheats league would mean long term survival for us, because we never spend owt so a couple of seasons up there we could pay off our debts, get relegated again, play in the 3rd division completely debt free then it'll be happy days all round

The name FC United of Manchester i rather suspect was chosen because as an acronym it is FCUM, which has a two fingers up to the establishment kind of ring to it. Whereas we'd be FCUS, which to be honest given our propensity for shooting ourselves in the foot, is entirely appropriate....

F**k Youse I think it good be actually...

;)

If we merged we could keep our red stripes and the pig's white ones, they could keep the "Sheffield" part of the name and we could keep "United" and as we are nearer the centre of the city we could keep Bramall Lane. Swillsbourough could be turned into a pig farm and we could all be happy. Sounds fair to me.

Makes economic sense to build a municipal stadium somewhere out by Woodburn Rd. Bigger clubs than ours share.
Would regenerate Darnall/Attercliffe, both looking dire, new roads etc.
seem to remember robert maxwell trying to merge oxford and reading once........ and failed, look at reading now ! both smaller clubs than owls/blades. do you honestly think both sets of fans will sit back and do nowt if it was to happen ? and its got nowt to do with the economics and regenaration of areas

Where did I say anything about a team merger?
Economically it would benefit both clubs and the area chosen.

Where's the 50k come from?! I suspect at least 25k STers in total would walk away, plus floating support. So you're asking someone to invest in a business which has completely alienated the majority of its customer base, needs a new ground, has a toxic brand identity and would probably start in the Northern Premier Division.

No you've persuaded me. I agree.

Read my posts, I'm not about persuading anyone because I don't want it myself but sticking your fingers in your ears doesn't mean it doesn't exist as a possibility.

Its hardly a great leap of faith to see people changing their minds upon seeing fancy Premier League branding and players etc turning up on a weekly basis. Your just assuming everyone supports the way you do. I'm afraid that many football fans will turn up just to watch a team because it wins. Its a proven fact.

A Sheffield FC in the Premiership would attract crowds of up to 50k very quickly. Success breeds a convenient loss of memory. Season one would be topped up with crowds from the big clubs (Liverpool, Man U etc) and if they stayed up and achieved a decent level of success some would soon forget that there were ever 2 teams in Sheffield.

I see it as a possibility I could really do without, but there will be someone, somewhere who sees it as a future. And if that person has a big enough purse do you really think you, I or anyone else would stand in the way?

ok i must have read your post wrong, but in your "economic"thinking, when there is just one stadium to share, how do you arrange the home & away matches ?

One teams plays at home one week, the other plays at home the week after. Not difficult is it?

the Milan clubs share the San Siro and the Munich clubs share the Allianz arena.. the Allianz arena is really cool.. they light up the stadium in different colours every week.. easy

No, No (998 times more).

If I lived in Sheffield I would follow Sheffield FC but as I live in Leeds I would probably follow Guiseley - great beer and great pies I am told...
You poor bugger living in leeds.I made a special journey to see Guiseley a few times when Tony Agana played for them.

blades v owls at home............ then blades v owls away, how ? with one stadium. the new stadium would have to be on par with wembley at least bearing in mind the fans of the massive

Seriously? Are you really having a problem with this.

Our home game, our fans sit in the ST seats. Their fan sits in the away end.

And vice versa for their home game...
