As is becoming common at this stage of the season, I’ve usually done a ‘Memries of QPR’ earlier in the season so just a bit of updating needed. Despite a recent spell in the Premier League, QPR remain a very average Championship team. In October 2017, they were ordered to pay a world-record £40m fine for breaches of FFP rules, which they (and Bournemouth and Leicester City) are contesting.

On October 29th, 2017 I did a ‘Memries of QPR’ and we’ve only played them once since then.

That was a narrow 0-1 defeat at Loftus Road on October 31st, 2017. On Halloween night, United provided a horror show and it was definitely ‘one of those games’. Goalkeeper Blackman made an error of judgement that gifted QPR the only goal of the game after just 5 minutes. Blackman was stretchered off with badly injured pride and bruised ego. Misses by O’Connell and Clarke – and a late disallowed goal by Clarke – summed up United’s misery. For the loyal Blades fans in attendance, there were few tricks and even fewer treats (That’s enough – ED.)…

And here’s Chris Wilder’s usual honest assessment of the game:

So why ‘Queens Park Rangers’? (can you see I’m struggling?). Queens Park Rangers were founded in 1886 after the merger of Christchurch Rangers and St. Judes Institute. In the early years after the club's formation in its original home of Queen's Park, London, they played their home games at many different grounds, until finally the club settled into its current location at Loftus Road.

To date, our League results against QPR read:

Home: P: 23 W: 7 D: 12 L: 4 F: 30 A: 24

Away: P: 24 W: 5 D: 6 L: 13 F: 26 A: 36

Recent-ish results against The Hoops:

Form guide

QPR are currently in 15th place in the Championship with 39 points – a full ten points less than The Blades in eighth place. On current form (the last six league games), QPR have won nine points out of 18 – slightly above United’s eight points.

A 2-0 home win against Bolton on Saturday 17th February keeps them in a mid-table position.

Men to watch

QPR do not have a ‘stand-out’ goal scorer but much-travelled 6’ 6” striker Matt Smith (signed from Fulham in January 2017 for an initial £500,000 possibly rising to £1m) is a formidable opponent:

Silent, I'm not gifted with your knowledgable Blades history, but I seem to recall we had a situation whereby we scored 4 goals in 4 minutes, (albeit in two different games). We scored two against QPR in the last two minutes to obtain a 2-2 draw on the Sat, and then scored two in the first 2 minutes in the next game, at home on a Tues night in a 5-0 drubbing, I think against Portsmouth, or Cardiff. Or, of course it was just all a haloisiogenic dream, which to be honest wasn't uncommon in those days.

I remember Marcelo getting a last minute equaliser in the Bramall Lane end when we drew 2-2 with QPR.

I remember Roy Wegerle putting a penalty into orbit at the Bramall Lane end in 91 (I think)

The 3-0 win at Lotus Road in the FA Cup Third Round in 2015 was a great day out. The likes of Terry Kennedy, Reed, Scougall and goalscorers JCR and McNulty beating a team which included Rio Ferdinand, Matt Phillips and Charlie Austin.

Also recall QPR ending our 100% start to the 2005/06 promotion season with a last minute goal.

^^^^^^^^^^^

That was when the bloke next to me called Rio Ferdinand, "Old Horse Face" which was very very amusing.

I also remember this fella in the upper tier to my left who was wearing a sombrero. He was good fun and lapped up the banter and jibs. He got a round of applause at the end and reciprocated.

It was great memorable away day.

Yes you are right. Woody in 88th min and Hemsley (Pen) in 90th minute in the 2-2 draw at QPR. Woody (1st min) and Ford (3 min) in the 5-0 home win against Blackburn in the next match.

I was at a reserves match the day we played at QPR and left the Lane thinking that the 1st team had lost 2-0 but there were confused shouting at the exit and there was a man signalling 2-2 with his hands so we rushed in back in the ground to see the confirmation of the final score at the Pavilion scoreboard.

Didn’t Colin Addison have a last gasp winner disallowed in 71 at the Lane v QPR (a header from our 95th corner of the game) because the ref blew for full time just as the ball flew into the net?

Yes in November 1970. Cardiff's disallowed goal last week reminded me of Colin's disallowed goal

It was us that scored the last minute goal (Kabba?) - we were already 2-0 down at the time though I believe. We were terrible that day and I’m not sure Lilian Nalis - signed in the summer - played for us again.

Wasn’t Holloway in charge of them at this point as well? I seem to remember him doing some daft Mexican wave thing with the crowd and they were loving it.

Funny looking at the stats, I always fancy us to beat QPR but the records suggest it doesn't happen that often.
