Memries of Norwich

That was the first time I'd been on the terrace. I'm pretty sure it was all ticket as my Uncle Frank was on crowd control at the ticket office which must have been on John St in those days. He had a spare given to him by someone and passed it on to me. Was eleven at the time and had been attending for a couple of years before then. My dad wasn't interested in football so would go with my pal on the bus from Lowedges. If that happened today, I'm sure social services would have been called in.

We used to queue regularly on Sunday mornings for big match tickets in those days and they were great memories in themselves!!!

As for changing times, I often went for full days to Yorkshire and half days to Sheffield United cricket games at 11 years old. Great days spent at Bramall Lane.

I'm sure Blades of a certain vintage will remember Feb. 18, 1989. The Blades were in Division 3 and would be promoted at the end of that season. Dave Bassett had guided us to the 5th round of the FA Cup and we faced Norwich from the top flight at Carrow Road. Around 5,000 Blades made their way to East Anglia using any means of transport (including, according to legend a furniture van). 1-1 at half-time with a goal from Deano, an heroic display saw a goal from Agana before we unluckily lost 3-2.

I was so proud of the Blades that day. Norwich were second in the league at that point, I think, having been top for much of the season. We already knew that Deane and Agana were good, but that was the first time it became apparent that they were something truly special. For a long time, it was my favourite defeat as a Blade (if such a thing is possible), but the semi-final against Hull took that crown.

Edit: sorry, I misread. Thought it was Norwich memes

Cousins. We prefer cousins. At least get it right if you're gonna take the piss :D

Have great memories of 3 -1 win at Norwich in April 1976. It was the week after our relegation had been confirmed and was our first away win of season. Great day out.

Yarmouth papers on the Monday reported that the Blades fans were smashing up the pubs!

For me the 3-0 defeat in 1990 under Bassett at Carrow Road, when we were still winless. I remember the Norwich fans taunting our manager with 'getting sacked in the morning' chants or something similar after the 3rd went in against an outclassed team. However, the reaction from the United fans was unequivocal and stirring, as we sang Bassett's name for the next five minutes much to the amazement of the home fans. It was mentioned on the 'Sports' Report' summary after the game, and the coach I was on started the chants again. Never thought we'd have a manager who connected so much with us; then there was the second coming...

The trip down in 1994 brings back some memories.

For starters we couldn't get tickets in the away end so me and a mate drove down to Norwich to get tickets in their end. In the ticket office we played it cool asking for tickets for the next match and it was only on the way back just before we hit the A1 that we checked the tickets to find we'd got tickets for the wrong match.

In the match itself we got escorted out when we celebrated Blake's early goal but, fearing the worse, we got walked round to a corner full of other Blades in the same boat. It was a fantastic atmosphere in that corner and had a good laugh with the Blades subs as they warmed up. Happy days.

I went down once on the dodgiest of mini buses ,first stop just before Dunham Bridge 9 am ,that kind of day ,anyway it kicked off on the outskirts of Norwich after and a couple of Bikers got involved and cracked. 20 miles up the road as we pulled up at some lights a fucking chapter of hells angels it seemed surrounded us. Our passenger seat blade (very well known) wound his window down and said to the main Son of Anarchy ,'whats up wi dee Greebo' ,luckily as the doors opened and bikes were unsaddled loads of plod turned up and we were escorted as far as Sleaford. Lucky Sleaford.

As some have already said, I remember the 5-2 defeat at Bramall Lane in 1985 that was Porterfield's last game.

Kevin fucking Drinkell!
March 1986. Some years later I met Wayne Biggins at Butler's Indian restaurant. Told him that I remember him scoring the 5th goal of the below match. He is a pleasant chap. He supported Wendy as a boy and went to the same school as speedymcgeady

Whenever I've been to Carrow Road we've lost. Bogey ground for me.
Remember going to an away game at Carrow Road, and sadly seeing Carl Bradshaw playing for them, in a yellow shirt instead of a red and white one, after we had sold him to them (for half a mill if my memory serves me right), probably against his will.
Can't remember the score though.

I have no recollection of my last trip to Norwich thanks to Deepcar Blade supplying me with red wine at 7.30am on the sportsman coach.

Unbelievable support that day! Loud, passionate chanting from the Blades following. After the 3rd went in I remember the spontaneous chant of "One Dave Bassett!". Definitely one of the most memorable 3-0 defeats.
