An old BU tradition with a new twist. On this day...

In 1969 we won 5-1 at Portsmouth
In 1972 we lost 1-2 at home to Newcastle
In 1975 we lost 1-3 at home to Arsenal
In 1978 we lost 1-2 at home to Orient (Alex Sabella's debut)
In 1980 we beat Chesterfield 2-0 at home
In 1989 we won 3-0 at WBA
In 1992 we lost 1-2 at Liverpool
In 1995 we lost 0-2 at home to Tranmere
in 2000 we lost 3-0 at Preston
in 2006 we drew 1-1 at home to Liverpool

Not generally a good day for us then, but some people must have some meries of these games...

I was at West Brom in the home end. It was the start of the promotion season and Deane and Agana tore em to shreds. I remember the Baggies fans being furious at their own team and impressed with our front 2.

In 2006 we were playing our first game of the season on the 19th. Three years later and we've already played four!

In 1995 we lost 0-2 at home to Tranmere

That was a shocking performance, though John Aldridge gave a goalscoring masterclass.

in 2000 we lost 3-0 at Preston

That was even worse.

Alex Sabella`s debut, seems like yesterday, the ticker tape welcome from the Kop

Went 1 nil up from a Sabella corner, a new start to a new era

Lost that game, and the season ended with relegation to the 3rd division

in 2000 we lost 3-0 at Preston

Went to that. We wore the horrendous Midas Gold kit and Warnock got sent off.

I remember sprinting the length of Preston high street with Musical Blade to catch the 5pm train back to London, the next one didn't go for an hour and we didn't fancy waiting after that performance!

Glad we're not playing today.

Three times out of the ten we went on to be relegated.

Was at all those except Pompey but I seem to remember the mighty Woody scoring three that night.

Four actually - 75/6, 78/9, 80/1 and 06/07.

You're getting your Portsmouth games mixed up. Woody got 3 in the 5-1 victory there on 30/9/70. On 16/8/69, Currie 2, Woodward, Tudor and an og were the scorers.

Remember 2006 well. Sat in the same carriage as Sean Bean on the train up and went in the Nelson with Wimbledon Blade and my brother before. We were convinced we were in for a hiding. Sat on the Kop and went crazy when Hulse scored, Tonge played as well that day as he ever did for us. After that we seemed to sit back and invite them on which was suicide against a player like Gerrard. Even so, it still took a dodgy penalty for them to score. Coming away from the ground I said it was 1 point more than I expected and 2 points less than we deserved.

Bloody Hell, forgot all about relegation in 06/07!!!!!

and indeed that Pompey were our perrennial whipping boys at Fratton.

In 1972 we lost 1-2 at home to Newcastle

I used to speak to John Tudor outside the old JSS players entrance after matches between Sept 1970 until his departure to Newcastle 5 months later. He scored the winner for Newcastle in the above game and i was so furious with him! After the game my dad asked me "come on, we are going to meet John outside the players entrance". I refused with a loud "No". It took him many minutes for him to calm me down and persuade me to meet John. When we got to meet John, and his wife, Anne, my dad told John that I was so annoyed with him for the winner and John laughed!

I remember this game and the Arsenal game in 1975. We were lucky that Arsenal didn't get 8 that day!
