R.I.P Mel

Rest In Peace Mel Rees. I went to that Liverpool game. Mel was gravely ill when we played our FA Cup semi-final v SWFC, I was hoping we could win it for Mel, but it wasn't to be.

Remarkable and heroic keeper; it was unreal just how good he was at the time. He came unannounced from relative oblivion and played like a Superhero game after game. It was almost as though it was his destiny to be a hero in the last few months of his very young life.

Thank you Woodwardfan, that's exactly how me and Mrs HB feel. People become heroes for different reasons. Mel will always be a hero to us, as articulated by yourself.

We are modest fans supporting a modest football club but we have values and that's why we are on here.

Sadly the sport throws up fewer and fewer senses of "family" these days but Mel Rees was one of our family in such a short time as was Alan Woodward over a much longer period; both no longer with us, sadly, but their memories will be with us forever and that should be a comfort to their families. Hope they know that.

Unfortunately the Blades don't do sentimental shit as proved yet again this season after a few greats unfortunately passed away in the shape of players and supporters. The Blades get stronger though no doubt and we will eventually have the biggest party ever seen.
