McNulty on loan to Pompey

I have to say that I agree with most of what Keith Edwards says when he moans. Let's face it, if we were any good he wouldn't have to moan.
However, if you used to walk the walk - as he did - you have the right IMO to voice that opinion.
I can understand that those who never saw Keith Edwards play might find his relentless criticisms a little tiring - but if you did see him play and you knew that when he was one on one he would pop it in the back of the net for you and the rest of the lads - he was that clinical with a chance - you can't help but understand that he knows what he is talking about.

Now - he'd not be a good manager in this day and age - but when he talks about scoring goals and what is needed to get those opportunities only a fool would not take notice.

I get bored of him banging on about Billy Tightshirt, though. Youngsters must think he was the Didier Drogba of his day.

One by one pick the rotten apples from the barrel then discard them.

When you start to add things up, I think the culture at the club appears to be all wrong. On one boot you have the likes of Baxter, McNulty, Brayford, Coutts and others who like to go out and on the other you have a bunch of mediocre professionals such as McEverley and Collins who have heavy input in NA's committee. I understand it's going to take a while to get some players out of the club, however while he fosters favouritism towards a few, will all end up well? Has Nigel always had a committee, because you can see why there could be differences across a full squad of the same quality players.

I remember one poster on here saying the lad "could be anything he wants to be in the game". He has ability and clinical when presented with a chance, otherwise no brain. Portsmouth will be boosted by his goals which they are finding hard to come by. He joins Doyle and Davies too; maybe they have had a hand in the move.

Scottish Championship level player nothing more. I hope Scougall is next out the door.

His dads obviously trying to live his dream through his sons talent. Fwiw this is a good move for both parties. Hopefully thr move down to pompey will get him away from his entourage and he will knuckle down....

Hopefully he wont have a scrap with any navy lads!!

Just needs Pommpey to keep a weather eye out for him. On the other hand, whilst I don't condone it, Perhaps somewhere down there, there is a big Navy guy who will knock the arrogance out of him. There would be no hiding place in Southampton either from what I have heard.

Herein lies the problem in my opinion. We are a team full of players who are average lower league standard and that's exactly where the clubs now sits. We have the position in the league we deserve based on the players in our squad. I smile sometimes when I read some of the posts where people are desperately (and understandably) hoping that our average players who show occasional flashes of skill or technique will turn the corner and dramatically improve, the truth is that it is almost certain that they won't. More than 40 years following the blades has taught me this, if it looks like a duck, walks like a duck and quacks like a duck then it probably is a duck. The same goes for our players, they are really just not good enough to get us to the higher standard we all hope for. I'm not singling out MM but he is a good example, a reasonably talented player technically who is not talented enough in his application, dedication and willingness to play a role in a team which has aspirations above the middle of the 3rd division. He is not alone, the team is full of players like him who don't have the combination of assets that a footballer needs to play at a higher level. His occasional ability to put the ball in the net is with a frequency way below that which could compensate for his lack of other talents. This is where someone like Edwards is a good comparison, his scoring ability alone was enough. If a player is exceptional in one department it can make up for failings in his other areas. I am sure that older blades can think of a few examples of our players who have managed that for us. It also works the other way and you can see a player like Kevin Keegan who was at best technically average (I'm being generous here) but with incredible willpower, drive and determination more than compensated for this shortfall and made himself European footballer of the year and England captain.

In summary if we want to play at a standard higher than division 3 we need to have players who are among the best in the league 3 to get us out of it, those who are not need to be made to leave amd replaced by ones who can and if this does not happen then we should accept this is our level. Simply put MM and most of the current squad of players are not under achievers, they are players who have simply gravitated to the level they are best suited for with the sum total of their footballing talents.
I agree, and Adkins has made it even worse by bringing in 4 more of these players.

See ya, Sparky. All the best.

Nowt against the lad, but good for him, good for us. Same would apply to 6 or 7 others - hopefully this is just the start.

Dont rate him at all apart from his finishing

Mcnultys finishing? I refer to the hideous excuse for a header at home to Barnsley last season, the absolutely ballooned attempt that flew over the crossbar against swindon in the 2nd leg (he was subbed straight away after this) and his inability to at least hit the target against Bradford, that was screaming to be put away and he basically cost us 2 points against an appaling side.

That's not just three 'misses', that's three occasions where he failed to do even the basics of working the keeper. Add to that he doesn't even work hard for the team like billy does.

Will miss him like a hole in the head.

See that he's been given the no.10 shirt at Pompey - The Big Cheese! He'll like that!
