McGoldrick

Just thinking the same!

He certainly looked dissapointed, which proves at least that it was a chance by his own standards.

Reading through your comments I was also about to say the same. It wasn’t a ‘gilt edged chance’ but wasn’t an ‘extremely tight’ angle either. I actually thought the angle for our first goal, which forced the keeper into making a save, was more ‘extreme’.

I think McGoldrick has been excellent so far but one thing that the formation change showed today is that he isn’t really an option for the ‘lone striker’ role.

In Wilders words he's the 'link up play' striker and obviously Billy is the 'fox in the box' striker. Billy will stay fit because that's what he always does but if McG can too then it could start to become an even better partnership than Leon and Sharp last season.
He might not get the same number of goals that Clarke managed but he will set a lot more up for Sharp and others around him.

I didn't get the claim he's poor in the air, he's probably one of the best we have.

Said when we signed him that he would be the signing of the season, I may be proved wrong if Norwood and Egan keep doing their thing but bloody hell the lad has got skills. Keeping him fit may become crucial as the season goes on. That being said we do have an awful lot of quality throughout the squad should the worse happen, so I am going to enjoy watching him in form without worrying too much about if/when he will break down, as Ipswich supporters seem adamant he will at some point.

I don't think any of our strikers work effectively alone, possibly down to the way we play.

Also, at the point one of them becomes a lone striker, Duffy has either faded or been substituted and the other supporting players are standing off. When they're that isolated, they either do the impossible and turn a hopeful punt into a chance all on their own or (more often than not) surrender possession.

I was going to say McNugget, as in Gold Nugget then realised its a chicken thing from Mcdonalds so best not bother.

If he can get rid of the injury curse (touch wood) and add more goals to his game he’s a prem striker.

So do we still need another striker?

I would say yes. If Billy gets a bad injury then we could struggle.
