gesticulates angrily at his team mates and gives a little angry jig when he's played a shite ball, not an unusual occurrence for him, he's displacing the blame onto his team mates

There were a few who I played with that were like that, managers always seem afraid to tell off these sorts also afraid to drop them from the team. Also at work there are a few who is always criticising other people's workrate despite not being a hard worker him/herself and again managers are usually afraid of telling them off. I hate these sorts

You can "sigh wistfully" and "shake your head" all you want but I'm just describing what I see. Perhaps when McCarthy gesticulates angrily at his team mates and gives a little angry jig when he's played a shite ball, not an unusual occurrence for him, he's displacing the blame onto his team mates, it's usually Alcock that cops it. I might be wrong perhaps McCarthy is great in the dressing room, I do like a bad loser (Warnock) but isn't McCarthy training with Palace, or have I got that wrong ?

United's defensive record has dramatically improved since McCarthy came into the side

The last 5 league games we have conceded 1 goal, the 5 league games before his arrival we conceded 9

coincidence ?

We let in 3 at Chesterfield, and two of them were his fault. He has Howard to thank for saving the penalty last week

Don't start this all over again,we've been through it all.

Iv'e said on a numerous of occasions that the opposition has had a lot to do with the upturn in our defensive capabilities, coincidence? Well as evidenced yesterday,we play a decent side, who play with two strikers, yes that's them players who play the furthest forward, who are better finishers and can cause havoc but that's for another day, what happens is our defence struggles when we play a potentially difficult side, especially that Premiership Centre Back who doesn't even train with the rest of the defence, which imo is the main area of the pitch where you need continuity, balance, focus and most of all training sessions together to practice different scenarios and situations.

I will say it again,i personally can not see what McCarthy gives us extra over players that we already have,it's another waste of a wage imo that could have gone towards another attacking player. We're still in a good position but lets not fuck it up by unsettling the main area of the pitch.

I'm still shocked that we allow him to train with another club. How is a defense meant to work together when they can't practice together? It's insane.

If you can't see that the back 4 have improved since his arrival you need to go to Specsavers.Ah well, at least we have a new scapegoat.

And the other matches? We have looked far more solid at the back since he has come in. His game against Chesterfield was when clearly not match fit .

Reverting to the point of the thread, the issue yesterday was that McCarthy was playing the ball for Alcock to run onto and Alcock was rooted yo the spot. Made McCarthy look like the villain when he wasn't (at least not every time). Same used to happen with ?McCall - he would expect players to move on to the ball and they weren't on the same wavelength. The one player who did respond yesterday was Basham and he found himself with space in dangerous positions several times as a result.

I can't find my way there:rolleyes:.And no he's not a scapegoat,he's just not worth the hassle he brings with not training with the others.

Iv'e got an idea, lets just say he's a scapegoat instead of debating why some of us think he shouldn't be here:rolleyes:Easy way out!

For me he's about as bad as McMahon, just without the benefit of being able to score from free-kicks.

I don't think he is good enough for a team looking to get out of this division. Peterborough released him because they didn't think he was good enough. I think he is a steady at best player who best suits a mid-table nonentity. Many more signings like him and that's just what we'll become. We aren't far off it now, in what is truly an awful, awful division.

Peterborough offered Alcock a contract, he elected to come here instead.

Who says there is hassle? You do know the team don't work on shape and the opposition until Thursday or Friday don't you? McCarthy doesn't just turn up at United two hours before a game.

I am just amazed that some are making an issue about McCarthy when we have more pressing problems elsewhere e.g. lack of a striker, poor for of Scougill,JCR's crossing ability and getting Wallace fully fit.

I don't know if you've noticed but the threads about McCarthy, perhaps you need to go to spec savers!:D

He is strong and dominating in the air but his distribution still hasnt really improved since the Chesterfield game. I always feel uncomfortable when he is trying to play the square ball

I agree about his distribution but as a defender,he is way ahead of Collins

no. as you correctly ascertain i'm not old enough.. my grandfather said he was shite ..nuff said :D
My dad said Tony Wagstaff showed a lot of promise when he was a teenager (his league debut was when he was 17) and had some skill but wasnt the same player after the 1966-67 season and the number of his 1st team appearances had dropped before going to Reading in 1969

Alcock's top speed isn't great. Over short distances and due to good aggression he seems alright, but in a real sprint against quick wingers he's got no chance.

Agree BB, however my point was in reference to McMahon :). I also think he reads the game better than a few other lads do, this allowing him to be 'a step a head' if you will in which direction wingers will turn.
