He took an almighty thwack in the aftermath of the financial crisis and timed with The Blades relegation from the Premier League, he must have been under serious pressure to reduce his bank liabilities. In that sense, we could be in a far worse state, e.g. Portsmouth, than we currently find ourselves.

I do wish he'd stop going on about "bad luck" though and focus more on avoiding some of the errors of judgement (Robson, Blackwell and numerous executive appointments) that got us into Div 3 despite his £90m (his figure) investment.
