McCabe if you remember what he said it was hard to decipher but it stated quality players, smaller squad, trimming wage bills etc. This is all to do with bigger picture but also contributes to Blackwell having to find a way to do this. His frustration is quite clear at the situation. We have no idea how many inquiries he has made in to acquiring another CB at a price that the budget has been set at.
Personally although not satisfied or pacified I think our board and manager have done a remarkable job trimming and keeping us in and around the playoffs. This seems to be stability although on a fine line. To upset this balance by getting rid of the manager at this stage is a massive gamble.
I am not saying that there is no one out there who can do a better job than Blackwell but it could go either way if we were to change at this stage.

"stated quality players, smaller squad"

Well we got half of it right.

I also think that getting rid of him now isn't a gameble of epic proportions. We won't win a play off final under him IMO, even if we did I don't think his style of management is suited to a term in the Prem.

A ha but thats just it what he said he has done. Not in the straightforward way that we all would like him to say it and do it but the goblegook way that i am talking now.
Micalijo asked a few months ago what he meant and i think between us we descifered it. I will try and find it for you later.

I think anyone would struggle to play decent football with the turnover of players we've have. Whether KB is capable of it is another thing, although we played some decent stuff when he first arrived.

He also said Mr Blackwell had a substantial kity in the transfer window. Is that the same Kevin McCabe?

How much is that substantial kitty in the transfer window, the one with the waggley tail.

My apologies.

That was his fat Pussy sat on the Ticket office counter waiting to be passed through to a customer:D

It really is remarkable that a manager looking after the fourth or fifth biggest budget in the league is in 6th place. What a brilliant manager he must be. Fancy a football manager having to sign a few players after a chairman has sold a couple - it just beggars belief that a manager earning huge money is asked to do these things.

I'm totally fed up with this let's feel sorry for Blackwell because we're skint style post (just like you'l be fed up with my stuff). He has had millions to spend when compared with other managers.

I must admit its imperative SUFC come out and detail the financial situation, seems to be a lack of communication at the moment.

Who feels sorry for Blackwell?
He has a great job, well paid, running a team in the top six. You shouldn't feel sorry for him. I'm sure he wouldn't want you too.

I sort of agree they ought to but they wont. to even contemplate coming out with a statement would start alarm bells rining with creditors, even if the picture looked all rosy. people would start digging and coming to their own conclusions that it was not.

I think McCabe is just being ultra cautious at the moment. I think playoffs based on the extent of re-profiling is a good achievement in his eyes. However I think we could lose a couple of thousand season tickets because the floating support which came on board in the NW days simply won't pay to watch KB's football. I just hope KMc is aware of this.

I think your right about McCabe. I also think he sees the possibility of us getting lucky and actually making the premiership. Regarless of where we were to finish in the prem the money generated would give us a massive chance of doing a west brom if relegated. I dont think anyone would expect more than relegation therefore he/we would not invest too much in that season.
If however we dont make prem (as is likely) we have trimmed and i believe are best placed to pick up players in the closed season be it under Blackwell or another manager.

The simple fact of the matter is that United are not good enough to go up and even if they con their way through the playoffs and into the PL we will embarras ourselves and come straight back down. We invested enough money at the start of last season and the one before to go straight back up. Our present manager and the one before wasted a lot of it on the following;

David Cotterill (had plenty of chances, didnt live up to the hype)
Brian Howard (Did OK but expected more)
David Carney (Why?)
James Beattie (Fabulous player, couldnt afford him so why in the first place?)
Billy Sharp (Wasnt what we needed at the time)
Lee Hendrie (Crock/never played)
Ched Evans (Blank, Blank, Blank)

Instead of investing the money to keep;
Rob Hulse (Tailor made for the Championship)
Claude Davis (Tailor made for the Championship)
Chris Armstrong (Quality left sided player)
Jon Stead (Opinions differ but I liked him)
Ahmed Fathi (Top performer for Egypt currently)
Alan Quinn (100% trier and a goal scorer)

We had a decent team as it was and we could have kept most of it together. Once NW went we should have appointed someone with a proven track record in the Championship - signed a midfield player and a winger and bob's your uncle, promotion challenging team! I know hindsight is a wonderful thing but WTF were we doing?! Just because the chairman wanted to be a big time charlie! Now we are paying for it.

Don’t disagree with that Lou, but at the risk of sounding deluded I would like to see the Man u/Lpool teams at our ground instead of Scunny/Watfords, even if it meant no investment in that season and relegation the money generated would be far more and make us more attractive to managers players than 2 seasons of mid table mediocrity.

It would mate but we would go through the same tedious cycle again wouldnt we? Straight back down, new manager comes in and spends loads of money on players and we dont get back. Then 5-10 years of financial struggle until it happens all over again. Its an utter merry-go-round and we never get any better for it.

If we were to get soundly beaten every week the name of the opposition would be immaterial to me. I dont want to go up to get panned every week. The financial rewards are not sustained and we end up with another legacy of problems.

It happened when we came down and appointed Kendall, It happened when we came down and appointed Robson. Probably happened to some extent before that although the game was different then. I wouldnt go back to the cinema to watch the same film umpteen times so why should I with a football club?

No dont forget the financial situation has all changed and clubs are struggling even in the prem because they have over spent(yes so did we) but we have a stable finacial position and with prize money not dropping we would have the ability to attract better players and manager after dropping out of the prem.

But .............. who remembers a few weeks ago that a message from the club said the Killa cash ... if he went would be used in January ?

Good old BB ... we tried for one or two but .....

A few years ago Bolton were the model to follow. I think we are more like West Brom than Bolton (crowds) they dont panic with this yo yo situation and fans stick with them do they attract the players - yes because their stability allows for yo yo potential.

Well I thought we were in a stable financial position but according to members of this forum that went to the AGM we have loads of debt - if thats the case I wouldnt call that stable.

I appreciate you probably have a more optimistic outlook than me but the present situation just smells like the same old United bollocks. Nothing ever changes, it just swings back and forth :fishy:

Very true and as a club I would rather be a West Brom than a Bolton. But I dont want yo yo potential. Is that all we have to look forward to? If so lets just pack up now and forget it. The idea that the likes of.......

Cardiff (rugby town)
West Brom (much smaller than Sheffield)
Bolton (you couldnt swing a cat in it)
Wigan (see all of the above)
Portsmouth (seaside town)
Burnley (much smaller than most places)
Wolves (much smaller than Sheffield)

........are all doing better than us just shows what a floundering set of tossers we're making ourselves look.

ah you see you read too many of Lenners posts. Don't take his word all the time although he has a instinct for these things, he dresses them up sometimes.

No what i am saying is there can be stability with yo yo and when that stability is realised we can then push on further because we have bigger potential than West Brom.
Dont get me wrong I would love to do it in one big movement without the yo yo.

Listen at us next week i am getting a pogo stick:D

I've got to disagree with you there, I'd put West Brom, Bolton and Wolves as comparable clubs in terms of size to us over the years. I think all three would argue they're bigger as well.

If promotion fights and relegation battles are not exciting prospects for you, then I suggest you do indeed pack up and forget it. Such things are what makes football in general and supporting United in particular so good.

I think what Lou is saying is that United should be bigger than all those. i would agree. the reality is that at the mo we're not.
West Brom and Wolves maybe comparable, But Bolton!!

Sorry if i read that wrong Lou.
